Kaito Has A Way With Words
*Queue Walk Thru by Rich Homie Quan*
There I was, with Shikamaru Nara, sitting down at the table, before Iruka showed up. The typical intelligent Nara, looked unamused but casually hit me with the, "Hey Kaito, nice to see you. It's been a while hasn't it? I just hope today isn't too troublesome." as he looked into my eyes, about to rest his head on the table. I knew what he was going to do, and I would only allow some of it; because I myself will also take part in the napping routine created by the one and only Shika, only replaced with meditating; I had to max that out. But before I did, I responded with "Hey, good to see you too Shika. It looks like you still have those old habits of yours that your mom hates so much. I'll wake you up for the important parts of class." he looked up at me and only nodded before closing his eyes to sleep. Boom, just like that he was out like a light. What really surprised me was that he was able to do that on queue, like a bullet was already loaded in the gun ready to rock and roll. Great. Time to meditate again.
Class was boring, what the academy really did was take up time for training; which was a complete and total waste of time. But, I needed to do this to fully immerse myself to key in on what everyone was really like. Develop bonds with them, help them grow stronger, get rid of their fatal flaws before they have discovered it for themselves. Time to plan things out. nodding to myself, while Iruka was going through a History lesson.
Hinata was still her canon counterpart minus the fact that she had two deaths in the family to deal with, so she had more confidence when it came to her family. I could easily evaluate that whenever it came to Naruto, she was still unbelievably shy around him. Since, technically the Hyuga's are on good terms with us, I'll personally ask Hiashi, after bringing it up to Hinata after class, if she wants to train with me. It's okay, I'll just have to get that idiot to come over to the compound sooner rather than later and tell it to him straight up. Confidence is gained through practice.
Naruto, despite being the main protagonist, was unbelievably obnoxious. The problem is that he was exactly the same as he was in canon. Begging for attention as a ninja is not a good thing. That bastard of a Hokage, Hiruzen, did eventually nothing to help him out after all, minus giving him that apartment, but that is besides the fact. The bright orange jumpsuit of his was an eyesore out of the whole room. My route of action for him is to drill him with common sense, until he finally understands what's happening around him. After that maybe let him get into a little bit of Fuinjutsu, tell him that it is the Yondaime's favorite and let him experiment. Father, you must've felt the same way about Hashirama.
Ino still had her love complex but it wasn't completely directed towards Sasuke. I believe she has her heart set on me! I could see the hearts shaping in her eyes when she looked in my direction. Great… I guess those clan gatherings after all really started to make her pull in my direction. Well that isn't a bad thing, I'll just have to set her straight on being kunoichi. Getting her train with me wouldn't be a problem, I'll just have to advise her that being a beautiful kunoichi isn't all about dieting and obsessing over men. It's much more than that.
Sakura would be a tough one to handle. But, I have a feeling if I had already won over Ino; maybe their friendship that they have now would create a common sense moment amongst the two of them. But it was the same way for Sakura, the ninja world is no Disney love story. I'll just have to set both of them straight. Once she matured though, Sakura would be fine developing by herself. Break the love curse on the Uchiha. Sounds more simpler than it really is.
Shika and Choji were the same, lazy and too gentle; just like their canon counterparts. It should be relatively easy to approach them. Challenging Shika to Shogi, compare it to life and death scenarios, the future of Kohona; all the metaphors you name it. It would kick some sense into him that even though Konoha is strong, there are people that are stronger. Choji just needed to get pushed outside of his comfort zone, he had the ability to be a great taijutsu user. Inspire the Nara to protect the future, push the Akimichi to limits he's never seen before.
That leaves Sasuke, who would be pretty much unapproachable. Especially since I'm a Senju, and even Tobirama's son to boot; I can feel some hatred in his glares at me. What makes it worse is that he's going to experience the thing that is going to make him the antagonist relatively soon. The Uchiha Massacre. Great, just my type of luck. No worries, I'll have a little bit of time to rekindle a broken relationship before we reach full fledged genin. Extinguish the fated Curse of Hatred. Good luck with that. At least I'll have an easier time sparring him.
It was the end of the lesson and Iruka finally called us out to the training grounds. About time, I've been waiting for this. I made sure to wake up Shika, and just to get regal "Troublesome" out of him.
"Alright kids, this is how it's going to go here. First you will complete two laps around the training grounds here. Then do 25 push-ups and 25 sit ups. When you're all done we will proceed to shurikenjutsu practice." Iruka stated, to much of their dismay, all the academy students groaned; except me and Sasuke. Sasuke at this point pitted me as his sole rival at the academy, as he geared up and gave me the infamous Uchiha evil eye while we were in the starting line with the rest of the group. Kiba and Naruto were getting into a debate on who would arrive in first place.
"What are we waiting for! Get a move on!" Iruka said, giving his best drill sergeant expression, making all of us scatter and sprint to attempt to finish first. It's definitely a jog in the park compared to running around the Senju Compound, that's for sure. I naturally was pulling away from everyone else, but not to take it too noticeably kept it close to see who would be in striking distance to take over the lead. Oi, here he comes. Sasuke in a last ditch effort went all in, and there was Naruto and close behind him there was Kiba trying to finish in the top 3. Too little too late. Try again in 100 years. I laughed in my mind, it was really interesting to see who really wanted to try and who didn't. Of course the Ino-Shika-Choji trio wasn't going all in, by the time they finished, I finished my physical exercise alongside Sasuke and Naruto. Hinata did indeed try her best and finished 1st amongst all kunoichi, followed by Ino and then Sakura. But what surprised me the most was that Naruto had the physical aptitude for strength and running. It looked like he wasn't spending most of his time at Ichiraku's after all, he had some muscle on him. Uzumaki genetics are unrivaled in physical aspects. And the damn fox too.
"Alright kids, now that the physical part is done, we will go on lunch break, then proceed to work on shurikenjutsu." Iruka stated, much to his surprise; almost everyone was happy to hear we were able to eat lunch and spend some time in the shade. The Konoha heat was different.
But before we went in, Iruka congratulated me, "Good job out there Kaito, way to lead the pack. Everyone else did a great job out here in the heat too, you should feel proud." as we entered the air conditioned building. I went straight for my packed lunch that I created the night before. This is going to be tasty. I had made myself an assortment of dumplings, sushi and onigiri to top it off with some fresh green tea too. I had claimed a table to myself before, Ino, Shika, Choji and to my surprise Hinata came over to sit with me.
I was mindfully eating my lunch, when Choji first asked me "Who made you lunch? It smells really good!" but then his stomach started to growl a little bit, so in response to that he asked me "can I have any?" I could help but let out a chuckle, "Sure, Choji, consider it on the house. And before you ask again, I made these myself." as I handed him a dumpling and an onigiri to eat, to say that Choji in heaven was an understatement, he nodded in his word of approval.
We were still eating when I got another question from Ino, Shika, Choji, and Hinata, all at the same time, what a coincidence. "How do you do it?" all 4 asked curiously, wondering how I, a Senju of all people, was leading the class without a problem in the physical deterpartment. "What exactly? Well you forget that my mother wants me worthy of my name right? So I train smartly; there will be someone outside the walls looking to harm anyone of us, especially being a shinobi. So I need to be prepared to protect the ones I love and respect." As I looked into each of their eyes, trying to prove a point that once you mess up there are no take backs. I had to keep it real with them, put the point across that being a shinobi is more than what it really was, that there was a real danger being in this profession. They had all been taken back a little bit, but took it well; trying to digest what I was saying to them. Hopefully this conversation will shake them up a little bit, make them really understand what they are doing is a heartbreaking business. I can only imagine what Kakashi is going through right now. I followed it up with, "Let me ask you all a question. What does being a Shinobi mean to you?" they all had gulped, not ready to answer a question as loaded as this one was.
Iruka came in at that moment, "Lunch break is over, time to go practice shurikenjutsu, and then the day is over." Damn saved by the bell huh. We had made our way to the exit, heading towards the training grounds to practice an art that I had already mastered. Time to bullshit, greatttt. This is so counterintuitive. Shaking my head, when Iruka started to explain the exercise. For a couple of my classmates, Sasuke had a fine time hitting the target with a couple bullseyes, easily the best out of male bunch, besides me of course; I had to make sure that I was just a little bit better than Sasuke. The fact that I could do this in my sleep without breaking a sweat and we weren't even on the moving targets yet was making it rather hard to fathom. Well it's the first day, what am I really expecting here. I was still disappointed, kids in each respective clan outside of the Hyuga and the Uchiha weren't actually training prior to the academy. It looks like I'm really going to mold them into a better shinobi. As I was about to leave, then something dawned upon me. Where is Naruto?
—-
To my surprise, I found him outside the academy still working on his shurikenjutsu; it looked like he pocketed a couple extra shuriken in case of a situation like this. I made my first approach to the boy, who seemed extremely focused on what he was doing, completely uncharacteristically from what he was doing in the academy a couple hours prior. It seems as though once he starts to focus on something that he will need in the future, he really tries to hone in on it. As I watched from a distance, I realized that with each throw he was hitting the board, inching closer to getting a couple lucky bullseyes, but overall getting more consistent with the technique. Time to make my presence known. "Ahem" I said, but I completely startled poor Naruto, making him turn around and almost hit me with the shuriken. Luckily, on my end it ended up hitting the tree that was behind me. "Hey Kaito, you scared me there! Why are you here?" He responded to me, he looked like he had been there for an extra half an hour, the sweat was dripping off of him.
Time to make another ally. A new brother.
