It was the worst pain she'd ever felt in her life. It was so much worse than the books had said. The piercing pain, the shredding skin all told her what she didn't want to know.
She was glad about one thing. She'd managed to protect the young fifth year from the werewolf. The girl had gotten lost from her group and was standing there, frozen in fear. Seeing the werewolf headed right at the girl, she had run in front of him and shot a curse, just to get his attention on her.
It had worked perfectly, until she ran into the railing of the balcony. As soon as she tipped over, she'd seen the werewolf turning back toward the girl. With a force of will she didn't realize she had, she reached back and latched onto him. As he hadn't completed his turn yet, she'd caught him off guard. He tumbled over the railing with her.
The wolf growled angrily at missing the prey he'd chosen. Then he looked at HER. 'Yes! This one would do just as nicely in the little one's place.' Before the dazed girl could roll away and escape, he'd jumped forward and bit deeply into her neck.
She let out a strangled scream as she tried to push him away. Suddenly, he was gone and she was staring at the ceiling, watching it grow dimmer and dimmer. She knew she was dying. Somehow, the little fifth year had found her way down the stairs and found her. She could feel her own tears mixing with those of the girl as the life faded out of her body.
Everyone stood silent, remembering this beautiful girl. Her sweet laughter and sparkling eyes as she laughed and played Exploding Snap with a shy first year. Her kindness at helping them feel less homesick as they caught on to the rythym and rhyme of school. They watched as Parvati Patil screamed out her pain at the loss of her best friend. They had to repress tears of their own as they watched Professor Trelawney cradle the body of Lavender Brown as she sobbed brokenheartedly.
