Chapter TWELVE That's what goes through your mind?

Matthew Smyth was pacing in the infirmary of the Bureau. He was trying not to freak out over the events of the past few days. When he woke up the morning Jennifer was kidnapped he was in a frenzy as he packed their suitcases and headed back to the Stetson's family home. By the time he got there and settled, he rushed back out to the Bureau to find out some answers to where his wife was. He was so worried about her. He thought about the moment Jennifer told him they were going to have a baby. He had never been happier. He thought his wedding day to her was perfect, but finding out he was going to be a father topped everything. Matthew snickered to himself when he thought back to when Jennifer casually mentioned that they were indeed having twins. He paced back and forth and finally shook his head. He had to go find her. He quietly opened the door and peeked his head into the hallway. He didn't see anyone and he walked towards the infirmary's exit doors. He made his way to the elevators and pushed the button. If I have to go on every floor until I find my in-laws then that's what I am going to do! I have to find Jennifer! Matthew said to himself. I just have to act like I belong here and no one will know the difference.

Matthew got off the elevator and looked around the room. It was a hallway made up of several doors and windows. JACKPOT SMITTY!These have got to be the interrogation rooms! Maybe I can learn a thing or two….there's gotta be someone here. Right? Matthew was talking to himself. He tried not to talk himself out of what he was doing. His need to find his wife was greater than getting caught by any agent.

Suddenly he heard his father in law, Lee Stetson, talking with Sam Foster. He ducked into a doorway of a room that wasn't being used. He tried to overhear what they were discussing. Matthew learned that Phillip had escaped with the help of Jennifer and Jamie. His eyes grew wide as he learned that the place where they were captive wasn't too far from the Bureau! Ah ha! I just have to figure out where! Matthew said to himself. He strained his ears so he could listen some more. He heard Sam tell Lee that he would have a team of agents ready within the hour. They are going to go get Jennifer and Jamie! That's my way in! I will just follow them! Now, I just have to lay low until it's showtime. Matthew took a deep breath and went in search of a place to hide out until it was time to find his wife.

******** Phillip King walked into the interrogation room and saw Efrim Beamon sitting there chained to the desk and floor. He snickered thinking that was the perfect place for him and at the same time Phillip felt sorry for the man. Beamon spent his life trying to make Phillip's parents and family suffer. Phillip just didn't understand it. Maybe this is a mistake. I don't know what I am doing. I am not a trained agent like the rest of the family. This is something Jenny or Jamie could do. No…I need to do this. I need to know that my family is going to be safe and we need to find out who this guy that's helping Beamon is. Phillip took a deep breath and sat down across from Beamon.

"You know who I am?"

Beamon nodded "You are Phillip King. The race car driver. What can I do for you? I seem to be staying here for an undetermined amount of time so I guess I have time to chat with the whole Stetson/King clan….oh wait…I cant talk to Princess or Sport can I? They seem to be missing. Haven't found them, huh? Guess Scarecrow decided to give Amanda a break from her rambles."

Phillip glared at Beamon. "How about you keep my mothers name out of your mouth."

Beamon chuckled. "Ooooh defensive. Don't like me talking about Mommy, huh? Would you rather me talk about your sweet sister? The plans I had for her."

Phillip took a deep breath. "If you think you can get a rise out of me by talking about my mother and sister….I am afraid you met the wrong Mr. King. I know what you are trying to do. I am not a trained agent like my brother or sister, but I have dealt with assholes like you all my life. I know exactly what and who you are."

Beamon leaned forward in his chair. "Oh please enlighten me Mr. King. I would love to hear your theories."

Phillip crossed his arms and took a deep breath. "You are highly intelligent but your people skills are subpar. You don't like to deal with large crowds. You had very few friends in high school, even less in college. You act like you are better than everyone around you. You pretend to act like you are a straight shooter and follow the rules, but oh Mr. Beamon…you have broken all of them. You are sneaky and conniving. And yet… You only feel like people listen to you when you are a fall down drunk. And for some reason you have a hang-up on my parents. Why is that Beamon? What was it that bothered you the most about my parents falling in love?"

Beamon started to get agitated with Phillip. He glared at him. "Are you kidding? What housewife walks into the Agency, teams up with the best agent in the place and comes up with an incredible solve rate!? She was a HOUSEWIFE!"

Phillip nodded. "Yeah she was. But you have to understand that Lee brought the best out of my mother. As my mother did for Lee. You have to understand Beamon. They had an attraction from the moment they met. It may not have been love right from the start…but what they have is something none of us can truly understand. Growing up with them wasn't easy. I am not going to lie to you. Walking into a room where they were…..well…you could freaking feel the electricity between them. You could feel their love for one another."

"Oh I knew that from the moment I met them. Your mother basically slept her way to the top. Didn't she? How else did she get paired with Scarecrow? Billy Melrose was a fool."

"Take that back about what you said about my mother."

"Why? Is it hard for you to hear? That your precious mother could actually do something like that. How else did she get all of the good cases and get to work with Stetson?"

"I am not going to ask you again to take back what you said about my mother."

Beamon shuffled in his seat again. The look Phillip King was giving him was unnerving. "What do you want me to say? I can't help the way I felt. I was passed over all of the time. I was thrown into the training classes. I missed all of the action. Your mother was the top agent in all of her classes. Only two other people after her have ever gotten close to her scores." Beamon looked down at his feet and sighed. He looked back at Phillip. "Your brother and sister."

Phillip turned his head and pondered what Beamon just told him. "Okay. So my siblings are damn good at their job. I even managed to slip away from your silent partner. So I think it's safe to say this spy stuff runs in the family. Guess it was in my mothers blood after all and it had nothing to do with who she slept with. Which I might add was no one's business."

Phillip leaned over on the table. He put his arms and wrapped his fingers together. He looked at Beamon. "I think your problem was that you were jealous of Lee. I get it. Look at him. He was suave, good looking, a ladies man. You think it was hard to work with him? Damn it….do you have any idea what it was like trying to bring girls home? One look at my stepfather and they were enchanted. So I can see the jealousy. But where you went wrong Beamon….you never talked to my parents. If you had just told them how you felt….this could have all been avoided."

Beamon laughed out loud. "Oh now who is delusional! Don't you have any idea how many enemies your parents have? How many former agents did they put away? If it wasn't me I guarantee you that there are at least a dozen or more waiting in line after me. They would all love to take out the great Scarecrow and his Mrs. King."

"Then you need to tell me who this silent partner of yours is. I need to get my brother and sister away from him. So we are gonna continue to play nice and you are going to tell me who this guy is."

"What if I don't want to play nice guy? Your parents haven't figured it out yet…I am not the good guy. You can play nice cop to me all day and I am not going to say a damn thing. I am not the friend they thought I was! Princess and Sport are gone…face facts!"

Phillip stood up and grabbed Beamon by his shirt. He growled in Beamon's face. "And you know what! I don't give a damn if you are a good guy or a bad guy. You ARE going to tell me who the other piece of shit is that's helping you. Otherwise you aren't going to make it out of this room alive."

"You gonna sick your Scarecrow on me?"

Phillip leaned in closer to Beamon and whispered. He hoped it wouldn't pick up on the intercom or whatever devices they were using to record. "No, I will kill you myself. And Scarecrow wont be able to stop me. I have had enough of your bullshit and you will NO longer bother any of us. Do I make myself clear?"

Beamon looked straight into Phillip King's dark blue eyes and shuddered. He knew the kid was reckless like Stetson but this was taking it far. He really thought the kid would kill him. Beamon sighed and nodded.

Phillip let go of Beamon. He sat back down and waited for Beamon to speak. Efrim took a deep breath and said "The only thing this guy ever told me was that his revenge was personal….and it had to do something with Hitler's plates."

From outside the interrogation room both Lee and Amanda Stetson looked at one another. Tears formed in Amanda's eyes as she nodded to her husband. She gasped as Sam asked them "You know who it is don't you?"

Lee nodded. "We do. It's time to end this. Once and for all."
