Persephone stretches, sighing before sinking into the lake next to the Barley Mother's Megaron, the harvest this year had been going well although she missed Hades after only being away from the underworld for a month.
"Persephone!" Minthe calls to her, running through a field of wheat. "Hermes has brought word from the Underworld about a war in Troy and has delivered you a letter, I left it on your desk."
Persephone turns around in the water, resting her elbows on the grass above the lake.
"Thanks Minthe, you may return to your duties" she dismisses her before rising from the water, drying herself off and putting on her peplos. Persephone sits in front of her desk, moving various pieces of parchment aside before finding a letter sealed in an envelope, on the back written in his script is "Hades", she grabs a athame and breaks the seal on it, removing the letter from the envelope.
Persephone,
The Underworld has had a sudden influx of souls from the Trojan War. I am not sure if you are familiar with this war but Thetis' son (yes Zeus' old mistress) fathered with mortal king; a demigod named Achilles is taking centre stage. The Greeks have created a relationship among themselves called "Paiderastia", wherein an older man and a younger man form a relationship so that if the older man dies, his family will have another man to watch over them. Achilles "erastes" is Patroclus, the two of them have known each other since childhood and have grown from friends to lovers. I fear that their love may be the thing which leads to a few failures in this war as we know many hero's have been lost to sacrifice out of love but only time will tell.
As for other failures, Paris; prince of Troy kidnapped the Spartan's queen: Helen, a very beautiful woman blessed with the looks of Aphrodite herself (do not tell her I wrote that, she'd have my head), almost all of Greece is up in arms over Helen, heroes such as Achilles himself, Odysseus, Nestor, Ajax and a fleet of more than a thousand ships are sailing to Asia Minor to bring Helen back to her husband Priam. I do not believe they will cross near the Barley Mother Mansion but if they do, beware that these men are hostile and are being guided by the likes of Apollo so it is best to avoid them and hide if you see any soldiers coming by, perhaps have some nymphs watch out for them along the sidelines of the Meadow to deliver a warning if they do.
This war is a messy one and I'd hate for you to be involved it.
Sincerely,
Hades
Persephone folds up the letter, and takes a breath in, she pushes the thoughts of Apollo and his rape aside, stands up then calls to her nymphs for a meeting.
"I have news from the Underworld" she paces in front of her mansion. "There is a war in Greece, that is spanning the entire continent, the men involved are dangerous and we are being encouraged to avoid them, especially since Apollo is involved" She crosses her arms "I will need several if you to guard the borders of the Barley Mother Megaron to keep watch for any soldiers and deliver a warning if you see them."
Four nymphs volunteer and Persephone teaches them how to swing their vines so that they may use them as weapons if any scouts find the valley. Once she is done training them, Persephone lays in her bed thinking of Hades and how she should write him a letter once the Trojan War is over to assure him that she's safe, that is if the campaign only lasts for the next five months before she makes it back to the Underworld.
