Summary: In which a certain beast causes problems for the beauty.

"Teddy? NO!"

The horrendous crack of glass breaking sounded as the Niffler slid across the table top, right through the many vials of various potions set up on a table at the Possible Potions shop where Newt had been a moment before the Niffler took off.

There was a bright flash of white.

"Mr. Paris," Captain Janeway looked up from her cup of coffee. "Can you get a reading on that brilliant white rift?"

"Scanning now." Mr. Paris tapped a few buttons.

"It might be something Mr. Barclay set up to get us all the way home," Janeway mused to herself. "We are only a few weeks away now!"

"Engineering to Bridge!"

"Go ahead," Janeway touched the switch to accept the call.

"There's a dragon down here."

A very long moment of silence hung in the air.

Janeway set her coffee aside. "A WHAT?"

"It just showed up," the poor engineer said in a panicked voice. "It seems rather docile but I don't know where the thing came from or how it got on board!"

"On my way!" Janeway jumped from her chair. Nodding to Tuvok to indicate he should follow, she hurried for the turbolift. As they rode it to Engineering, she said, "I wonder if this is someone's idea of a practical joke."

"A joke, Ma'am?" Tuvok asked. Being Vulcan, jokes weren't so obvious for him.

"Someone's idea of fun," Janeway explained as they entered Engineering. She stopped. She stared. She closed her eyes hard before opening them. But no matter what she did, sure enough, there sat a reddish brown dragon the size of a draft horse.

The dragon raised one front foot to tap on the force field caging it with one long talon.

Janeway put a hand to her mouth, thinking hard.

"Seven to Captain!"

"Yes, what is it?"

"There is a white dragon in my quarters," the ex-borg said. "I am unsure on how to assimilate this!"

"Hold on, I'll be right there," Janeway glanced at Tuvok. "You take this one. I'll go help her!"

Tuvok nodded before stepping up towards the force field holding the first dragon. As Janeway made her way to Seven's quarters, a black dragon popped up in Sick Bay.

The Doctor beamed it over to the Holodeck to keep it contained. He muttered under breath, "I'm a doctor, not a Dragonslayer!" Hardly had he finished transporting the beast when yet another dragon, a brown one, appeared in the Mess Hall.

It took a few minutes to round them all up but eventually, all dragons sat in the Holodeck with a simple program set up to keep them contained.

Janeway entered the Holodeck once it was sure it was safe to do so. "One dragon was bad enough ... Now we have four?"

"They just popped up, one after the other," said Harry Kim. "Good thing they seem friendly."

"There's more to it than that," said B'Elanna, holding up her tricorder. "According to this, they are completely ... ... um ... human."

"WHAT?" Janeway yelped for the second time that day.

"That's right," B'Elanna said, trying another tricorder. She tried several before giving up. All said that the dragons were humans. "Human. Two males. Two females."

"How is this possible?" Janeway gasped. She glanced at Tuvok standing in front of the white female dragon.

The Vulcan was drawn to the white dragon. He lowered the force field before putting a hand on her forehead. "My mind to your mind. My thoughts to your thoughts."

/Well gee, honey. You don't have to be so dramatic. You're not the one stuck in a strange place as a dragon!/

/This is true. I am Commander Tuvok of the Starship Voyager./

/Did you just say 'Starship'? One moment!/

Despite the strength of his mind meld, the white dragon easily pulled out of it as if she had some sort of mind power as well. She turned to the other three. Tuvok watched as she started making small chirps at them which they returned. She turned back to the black Vulcan standing in front of her. Next thing Tuvok knew, he was back in the world of thought without initiating the meld.

/My name is Queenie Goldstein Kowalski./ She flicked her tail, pointing at the brown dragon. /My sister, Tina./ Her tail moved to the black one. /My husband, Jacob Kowalski./ With a final tail flick, she pointed at the red one. /My friend, Newt Scamander./

/You are telepathic?/ Tuvok asked.

/A Legilimens, yes./

/I see. Why are you all dragons when you are supposed to be human?/ Tuvok asked.

Everyone waited while the dragons clicked at each other. The red dragon seemed to be saying the most before the white one turned back to Tuvok. /Teddy. We think that the Niffler mixed up all the potions at the table we were standing by. The animal ran across the table too fast for us to catch. He knocked it all over. Newt thinks if we can get all the ingredients together, we could get it dumped on us again. Maybe, it will get us out of these forms. If not ... well, I'd rather not think about that./

/Do you know what these ingredients are?/ Tuvok asked.

/Well, see, that's the problem. We were at a shop for potions. Newt thinks he knows what they are on that table, but we can't be too sure. I'll tell you what we remember./

Tuvok picked up a tablet, then nodded to the white dragon. He began tapping furiously, writing down every last plant name she sent him. When he was done, he handed the tablet to the Doctor before saying, "We can replicate all of these to make these potion things Queenie is talking about, but if we don't have all the ones we need, it might not work."

"A shot in the dark?" Janeway mused.

"Chakotay to Janeway."

"Go ahead."

"We've discovered that this bright rift is a time portal," Chakotay said. "It is linked to somewhere in the past on Earth. Mid 1920's. Also, it is closing down! We only have a day to send them back."

There was a collective gasp from those down in the holodeck. Smoke furled out from the snouts of the four dragons. Janeway looked around at her crew.

"Alright. Mr. Tuvok, get those ingredients sorted," she began. "Mr. Paris, prepare a shuttle to get our visitors as close to that rift as possible so we can beam them through."

"There is one more thing," Tuvok said, turning away from Queenie. "Has anyone seen an old suitcase?"

Janeway blinked. She pressed her combadge. "Seven? Can you start searching the ship for an old suitcase?"

"Yes, Ma'am."

It took two hours to get everything replicated. Two ingredients had been missing, so it took a lot of testing before finding the ones that were needed. The solution was spread over the four dragons who were still waiting in the holodeck. There was a flash of yellow light. A puff of silver smoke.

A man emerged from the smoke first. He introduced himself as Newt Scamander as the other three soon appeared. He introduced each one in turn but before anyone could say anything more, a call over the paging system told all that there were several strange creatures spread out all over the ship.

"I guess they got out," Newt said. "We have to round them up before we go."

"We don't have a lot of time," Tina said.

"I was a dragon," Jacob said to himself as they headed for a door. "A dragon! Ohh, yeah!"

"Any idea why you all showed up at different times?" Janeway asked as she led them out into the hall.

"I think it is because the spray of the potions spread out to hit others who were farther," Tina said. "We need to catch that Niffler first before he screws anything else up."

"The scanners on this ship can easily locate any bio-signature that is not my crew," Janeway said. "We can beam them into that holodeck so you can do what you like with them there." As they walked along, she added, "I've heard about you. In this century, magic is no longer hidden. You're quite famous with those animals of yours."

"A classic tale of the beauty with all his beasts," Tuvok said with a straight face.

Janeway looked at him. "That's not quite what that story is," she said with a laugh. Vulcans. Always trying to understand human ways with their logic.

"Oh well, thank you," Newt said, turning red. "This is quite a ship you have here."

"Yes," Janeway said as she led the four of them into the office. "While my crew are rounding up your animals, we need to talk. This is several hundred years into your future."

The four of them stared at her before their eyes drifted over to the window. They were in SPACE?!

"We can not have you four saying anything in the past," Janeway went on. "We need to keep history straight."

"We can use a secrecy charm," Tina said. "I can cast it on the four of us right now. We won't ever be able to talk about this to others."

"I know about those," Janeway said. "Go ahead. Once that is done, we can reunite you with your animals before you all go home."

No sooner had Tina finished performing the charm when they were all called down to Sick Bay. On one of the bio-beds was a strange creature. Newt looked it over. "This is a sphinx."

"Great," said Janeway. "Can you put it into your case?"

"I don't have a sphinx in my case," Newt said. He looked around, hearing a crash. The sphinx had jumped into one of several medical containers lined up against the far wall, sending several objects flying. "Teddy?"

The sphinx paused to look up at him.

"That's my Niffler," Newt said. "Do we have any more of that solution you made to rub on him?"

"I can replicate it in no time," Janeway said, nodding to the Emergency Medical Hologram Doctor.

"Here we are," the Doctor said a few moments later. "Get back here. Hey!"

Newt jumped on the escaping sphinx. "Now! Hurry!"

The Doctor came over again to quickly pour the vial of the replicated mixture into the fur. A few moments later, Teddy appeared as himself in Newt's arms.

The next stop was the holodeck again where Seven had beamed all the animals. Harry Kim showed up with the case a moment later. Newt shoved them all back into it, including Teddy before following Tom Paris into the Shuttle Bay.

"It was nice meeting you, Mr. Scamander," Janeway said before the shuttlepod doors closed. The force field went up to allow the shuttle to leave the ship.

Tom Paris flew close to the rift. It had become smaller. "There is still time to send you back. Let's get you on the transporter pad."

The four of them crammed themselves into the small pad room. A soft beam of light surrounded them all. Next thing they saw was their own home again, close to the street leading towards the shop.

"Well, here we are," Newt said. "Home at last. Let's not talk about us being dragons ever again!"

"We can't." Tina laughed. "Except with each other."
