Chapter 2
It was 1989—1989! Lois could hardly wrap her mind around that. So not only did she teleport, but she somehow managed to time travel. Wonderful. Lois looked down at mini-Clark. Okay, maybe she should stop calling him mini-Clark if there was an actual mini-Clark out there somewhere…
And, wow, her little self would be only four. Chloe and Clark were three.
For once, Lois wasn't sure what to do. There wasn't exactly a person to go to when you realized you've been stranded in the wrong time. Maybe the Blur could help if he was alive in this time? Perhaps the Blur wasn't called the "blur" yet. Lois knew it would be impossible to find him. How was she supposed to find someone she has never once seen face-to-face? That would completely impossible. But… the ring. The ring transported her to the past. Could the ring transport her back to the present? Yet, she wasn't sure exactly how the ring worked, and she had lost it somewhere in that cornfield (she only knew that because it was no longer on her finger).
Lois really wished she could confide in Chloe and Clark right now. She knew they would know what to do. Meanwhile, Lois was at a complete loss.
Lois found herself heading to the first place that she considered her home: the Kent farm. Clark may be only three at the time, but maybe talking to Martha and Jonathan Kent would help. Of course, Lois could contact her own father, but she figured the general would be out-of-town. And Lucy wouldn't exactly be any help as a baby.
To be nice—she didn't exactly want to terrify the Kent's—she knocked on the front door. Martha was the one who answered.
"Hello," Martha said. She had a cut on her forehead.
"Mrs. Kent," Lois said. "You don't know me, but… this place is the first place in my life that has felt like home."
"Excuse me?"
"I guess I should have started with the fact that I'm from the future," Lois said. "I kinda crashed here for a month or so. Clark and I go way back."
"You are really from the… future?" Martha said.
"I know it's crazy, but you have to believe. I mean, a week ago if someone told me they were from the future, I wouldn't believe them, but I…"
"I believe you," Martha interrupted. "Believe me. My husband, Jonathan, and I have seen some crazy things. We found a spaceship today in the cornfield right by our house. If there are aliens out there… well, then maybe there could be time travel, too."
A spaceship in the cornfield? Like where I found mini-Clark…. "I found this little guy—I call him mini-Clark—in the cornfield," Lois said. "I call him mini-Clark because he reminds me of your son. He isn't speaking at all."
Martha smiled. "In the future I have a son? Jonathan and I are trying for a while now…"
"He's adopted," Lois said. "I assumed you would have already had him already in this year."
Martha shook her head. "No. No, it's just Jonathan and I. So, his name's Clark? I guess my maiden name could make a good first name."
"Hey, do you mind if I leave mini-Clark with you?" Lois said. "I need to figure out how to get back to the future, to my Clark."
"He's a pretty big part of your life, I'm guessing?"
Lois nodded. "You can say that, yeah."
"I'll watch over this little guy," Martha said, smiling. "Good luck, Lois."
Lois just flashed her a grin.
