In a world ruled by two mad doctors, most of the time people would be hiding for their lives with no hope. Most of the time. Sonic held onto the wing of the Tornado. He messed with the headset Tails had made.
"Blur blur to blue bomber, you in, Rock?" he asked. Rock's voice came through loud and clear.
"Sonic! We don't need codenames!" he exclaimed. Sonic glanced down to the ground below the plane. Rock was riding on Rush, and Sonic was pretty sure he was looking straight up at him with an annoyed look. Sonic shrugged with a grin.
"Point is, ready to scramble up a couple of madmen with doctorates?" he asked. Rock stared ahead, and nodded.
"We're ready! And it looks like Dr. Wily sent us a welcoming committee." he said. Sonic thumbs-upped, and spun around.
"Okay, Tails, you know the drill. Rock and I get in the base, annoy the docs, get Wily to do his self-destruct thing, and you pick us up." he said. Tails nodded, but was still tense.
"Be careful, Sonic." he said. The fact he was Robotized Master showed just how much could go wrong if Sonic or Rock failed. Sonic shot off a salute, and dropped from the wing of the plane. He flopped down in the air like he would a bed until he was meters from hitting the ground. Then he flipped around, and landed. With super-sonic speed, he caught up with Rock easily. A Mega Buster blast knocked down a massive Robotized Master, and Sonic kicked it down. He waved at them.
"Okay, we're destroying the doc's code, cool? Cool?" he asked. A bulky fist shot out at him. Sonic jumped backward. "Okay then, not cool." he said. Rock hopped off of Rush, and got back-to-back with Sonic.
"I just saw Amy!" he said. Sonic spun around, eyes going wide.
"Amy!" he exclaimed, looking at his robotized friend. Amy tensed, stepping from foot to foot.
"Sonic! I, I'm sorry! But, I'm Rose Woman now, and I've got to defend this base!" she exclaimed. Her hands transformed into hammers, and she charged. Rush leapt, and tried to pin her to the ground. Sonic glanced back at the other Robotized Master, then at Rock.
"I've gotta use the Power Ring on one of them." he said. Rock looked at him in alarm.
"But what if we need a boost later? Grandpa might be in there! And what about your Uncle Chuck?" he asked. Sonic whipped the ring out of his quills regardless, and without a split-second of thought, tossed it at Amy. The ring crashed into her head, and she fell down to the ground with a splitting migraine. She rubbed at her head, before looking up at Sonic.
"Huh? I'm, I'm me!" she exclaimed in surprise. Sonic waved at Rock.
"You keep going. Amy and I can deal with that guy, right?" he asked. Amy blushed.
"Sure!" she said, and got next to him. Rock shook his head, but smiled.
"Good luck, guys." he said, taking off on Rush. The Robotized Master looked up at them, glaring.
"You're outta rings, and I'm too tough for you to take on! The Egg Wily Empire will make the world not only run but become-" Sonic waved his hand back in forth in dismissal.
"A well-oiled machine. Blah, blah, blah. Think we could just get your Robotized Master name out and skip the whole robotic empire speech?" he asked. The Robot Master glared.
"Gragh! Do you know how long I spent memorizing that?" he asked. Amy just got her hammers ready.
"That's enough, Guts Man!" she exclaimed. Sonic rubbed his nose, excited at the challenge.
"Guts Man, eh? Let's hope you're as tough as you say!" he said, charging. Amy swung her hammers forward.
"No way you're hurting my Sonic!" she exclaimed. As Guts Man launched heaps of rocks and debris at them, Sonic wondered if Rock was having an easier time.
Rock was not. He was now fighting Dr. Eggman's badnik hordes, as well as one of Dr. Wily's Sniper Joes. Rock circled around them, Rush following close behind and snapping at any badnik that got too close. Rock charged his Mega Buster. He needed to think of himself as Mega Man right now to get this done.
The Sniper Joe fired at him, and raised its shield. Mega Man gritted his teeth, worry plastered all over his face. Had Dr. Wily deliberately designed the Sniper Joes off of Blues? Rush sprang from the ground, knocking the Sniper Joe to the ground. Mega Man snapped out of his thoughts.
"Thanks, Rush!" he said, finally getting in a fully charged shot. He took off, Rush hot on his heels. "Come on, boy, Sonic's counting on us to take this down while he's dealing with the Robotized Master!" he said. Rush barked, metal paws clunking off the ground. Both boy and his dog skidded to a sudden stop, eyes going wide. A huge, silver doppelganger of Sonic stood in front of them. A screen on the side of the wall popped up with Dr. Eggman's face.
"Wha ha ha ha ha! Hello, Mega Man! It's a shame Sonic wasn't the one to come up, but have fun contending with Silver Sonic! Gya ha ha ha- Ack!" Mega Man shared a look with Rush as Dr. Eggman's laugh ended with a hacking cough. He shrugged, then looked up at Silver Sonic. He charged up his Mega Buster.
"Sonic's delt with both Copy Robot and Blues before, I can handle taking one of his doppelgangers for once." he said. Dr. Eggman twirled his mustache.
"Bet you miss your brother, don't you?" he asked, leaning in even closer. Mega Man trembled for a fraction of a second.
"I'll free him, the same way we're freeing Sonic's friends that you're using against us." he said. With that, he switched his weapon. His colors matched the yellow and white of Sonic's best friend. "Tails Wind!" Mega Man exclaimed. The blast of shredding air tore into Silver Sonic as it charged, and pinned it to a wall. It picked itself up, and rolled towards Rock in a chainsaw motion. As it bounced into the air, Rock braced himself. He had to do this, he just had to.
Sonic winced as he picked himself up. That was some punch. Amy turned from trying to hit Guts Man.
"Sonic!" she exclaimed, dashing over. Sonic picked himself with a cough.
"I'm good, Amy. Just got the wind knocked out from me." he said, winking. Amy frowned.
"You're impossible!" she said, puffing up her cheek. Sonic just grinned, and waved. He looked back towards the enraged Guts Man.
"Okay, so option one is leaving him. Option two is taking him down until we can get Tails to get the docs' code out of him. Amy nodded. She looked at Sonic nervously.
"How long does it take before the Power Ring wears off?" she asked. Sonic stretched.
"We'll be able to get you back before you go back to being 'Rose Woman'. I mean, seriously, where is Wily getting the names from?" he asked. Before Amy could answer him, Guts Man stomped his foot onto the ground. He posed, showing off his bulky frame.
"Just come at me! You lovebirds can't do anything against true guts!" he said. Amy looked at the ground. Sonic took a step back as she trembled in anger.
"How, how dare you?!" She looked up, fire blazing in her eyes. She had become the very essence of pure rage. She raised one of her hammers. "I'll show you the power of true love! Sonic, get into a Spin Dash!" she demanded. Sonic knew better than to cross Amy when she was like that, so he did as she said.
Reluctantly.
He rolled into a tight Spin Dash, aiming himself at Guts Man. The bulky Robotized Master charged, like he was planning to knock down a door. "Something puny like that isn't gonna hurt me!" he exclaimed. Amy raised both hammers.
"My Sonic isn't puny!" she exclaimed, and let the hammers fly! Sonic rammed headfirst into Guts Man's middle, knocking him straight to the ground, and leaving a hedgehog-shaped dent in his armour. Both sides fell down at once. Sonic rubbed his head.
"Headache one, Sonic zero." he mumbled. Amy squealed and tackled him.
"We did it, Sonic! I told Guts Man that you were strong! He never believed me, but I only have eyes for you and your wonderful speed!" she said. Sonic yelped, and tried to escape Amy's grip.
"Amy, can't breathe!" he said. That Robotized strength was something else! Amy seemed to realize that too, and backed off.
"Oh my! I'm so sorry, Sonic!" she said. Sonic stood up, and grinned.
"Eh, it's nothing. C'mon, let's blow up a base already." he said. Amy nodded, and Sonic scooped her up. "Let's do it to it!"
Mega Man fired another charged shot at Silver Sonic. This time he managed to disable one of its arms. The silvery Sonic doppelganger glanced up at Mega Man, and activated its boosters. Mega Man skidded to the side, trying to avoid the blow. Rush jumped from the floor, and chomped down on Silver Sonic's booster. He yelped as his mouth was burned. Mega Man stood up.
"Rush!" he exclaimed, racing over to his dog. Rush whined, and tried to lick the inside of his mouth down. Mega Man pet him. "Don't worry. Tails and I will fix you up once we're back at the base!" he said as cheerily as he could. Rush barked, then perked up his ears. Mega Man looked up. Rush's attack had disabled a booster, leaving Silver Sonic with only one.
Its intelligence level must have not been really high, because it had crashed into a wall. Mega Man stood up, and charged his buster.
"Now!" he exclaimed, firing it as Rush charged. Rush knocked it down the same moment the Mega Buster hit, making Silver Sonic spark in and out. A sonic boom rippled down the hallway.
"Incoming!" Sonic exclaimed, throwing Amy into the air. Amy spun around, becoming a spinning hammer attack. It crashed into Silver Sonic, breaking him in half. Sonic then raced up, breaking Silver Sonic's head off. He set his sneakered foot onto it. "A knockoff, cool." he said. Mega Man sighed, half-relieved, half-upset.
"Do you have to make every battle about you?" he asked. Sonic just grinned. Amy looked around.
"We're nearly at the base's core!" She spun around, worried. "But we have to be careful! Dr. Wily's been building a new Wily Machine, and Dr. Eggman found a Chaos Emerald to power it!" she said. Sonic flexed his fingers.
"Cool, another one for us." he said. Mega Man stroked Rush's head.
"Rush took some damage taking down Silver Sonic. I think he should sit this fight out." he said. Amy bent down and pet Rush's head.
"I can stay with him. I'm low on energy after taking down Guts Man." she said. Mega Man snapped his fingers.
"Right! We still need to get the other Robotized Master away from the fortress." he said. He looked at Sonic, and the lack of headset. "You didn't..." he mumbled. Sonic shrugged sheepishly.
"Big hit?" he tried, and Mega Man sighed.
The lights came on, starting in the center of the room, and working their way out. A big, mech-whatever was standing in the middle. Mega Man got his buster ready, but Sonic just tapped his foot.
"Seriously, Dr. Whacko, think of some new original way to show off your new weapon." he said. The tinted cockpit cleared, showing an enraged Dr. Wily.
"You know very well I am Dr. Wily. I'm not whacko!" he said. Mega Man spread his hands. Well one hand and one buster.
"Then why did you betray my grandpa? Why did you turn Blues against everyone?" he asked. Dr. Wily smiled smugly.
"Just call it 'sweet revenge'. I've been in Dr. Light's shadow long enough, and it's time I take my revenge!" he said. Sonic spun around, sticking his hands behind his head.
"Dude, that's just sad." he said, and took off in a blue blur. As Sonic distracted Dr. Wily and the flamethowers on the mech, Mega Man charged up his Mega Buster. He launched it at the exposed back of the mech. As he did, several tiles on the floor lit up with electricity. One of those tiles was right below Mega Man's feet, and he called out in pain and surprise.
"Augh!" he exclaimed, stumbling to the floor. Sonic stopped in his run for a single instant, and looked up.
"Kid!" he exclaimed, skipping over the electrical tiles. He helped the blue bomber up. "You okay, man?" he asked. Mega Man nodded.
"I'm, I'm alright." he said. The mech spun around with Dr. Wily laughing.
"Weh he he he! The electrified floor was Ivo's idea. Every time you damage me, you damage yourselves!" he said. Sonic smirked.
"Good thing I'm faster than greased lightning." he said, and took off, hanging onto Mega Man's wrist. He raced around the room. "Still got some ammo for Tails Wind?" he asked. Mega Man shook his head.
"I used it all up on Silver Sonic." he said. Sonic jumped up.
"Rose Hammer it is then." he said, throwing him into the air. Mega Man came down, with Amy's colors, and with her hammer in place of his Mega Buster. Sonic rapid-fired some Spin Attacks, trying to bust the mech before he was forced to land again. A flamethrower shot out from the mech, and then zapped both blue heroes to the ground. They slammed onto the tiles, and got zapped.
"Yeowch!"
"Augh!"
Sonic winced, and painfully picked himself up. Mega Man looked at him, breathing hard.
"Are you alright?" he asked. Sonic stretched. "I'm supposed to be medium rare, not extra crispy." he said. Mega Man smiled in relief.
"You're fine." he said. Dr. Wily's laugh echoed around the room.
"Just give it up now, blue boys." he said. Sonic glanced at Mega Man.
"Okay, man, I've got a plan. Let's call it the croquet special." he said. Mega Man looked at him in confusion.
"O-kay?" he said. Sonic just got into a Spin Dash.
"Think of it like baseball." he said. Mega Man nodded, finally getting it.
"I'm going to aim you at the power core!" he said. Hammer met Spin Dash, and Sonic flew through the air. Dr. Wily stood up in disbelief, looking down at his precious mech.
"No no no no!" he exclaimed in a panic. He pulled the eject button, and just in time. Sonic tore through the metal, and the mech blew up. He flew into the air, pumping a fist with a Chaos Emerald high into the air.
"Now that's how you get it done!" he exclaimed. Mega Man laughed a little, then looked at Dr. Wily.
"We've won against you again! Please tell me where Grandpa is! Or at least tell me where Blues is!" he asked. Dr. Wily was too angry.
"No! I won't!" he said. He hit buttons on his Skulker. "Ivo! We have to evacuate!" he said. Dr. Eggman's voice came through in a rage.
"Not those blue bumblers again! I've saved all our data in anticipation of this. A genius always has a backup you know." he said. Dr. Wily raised his hand.
"Self destruct in ten minutes then!" he said. Dr. Eggman nodded.
"Agreed!" he said. Sonic raced around the room, and tried a parkour off the wall.
"Not so fast, Willy!" he said, jumping at the Skulker. Dr. Wily moved it out of his range with only a hair of space. Sonic face-vaulted onto the floor. Dr. Wily grumbled something about Sonic getting his name wrong again as he escaped through a secret hatch. All screens and electronics started to show the ten-minute timer counting down. Sonic smirked. "How generous." he said sarcastically.
Tails swooped the Tornado down toward the Egg/Wily base.
"C'mon..." he said, just waiting for things to happen. As the explosion rippled in the back, four figures emerged from the front. Tails' face lit up. "There they are!" he exclaimed, nose-dived the Tornado down. He flipped it into a tight barrel roll, then leveled it out with the ground. "Get on everyone!" he exclaimed. Sonic gave a thumbs-up.
"Great timing, buddy!" he said, jumping on while holding Amy. Rush help get Mega Man onto the other wing, and Tails pulled the plane high into the air. The base blew up in its entirely, heat hot on the Tornado's tailfin. Tails pulled it into the air, and the team cheered.
"Victory!"
