One spring day, Elinor painted herself a picture of how she was in different colors. She used different colors to color herself. When she hung it on the fridge, her parents had a big surprise for her. They were going to celebrate Holi.
"Momma," Elinor said happily, "I want to play Holi every day!" Ranger told her, "But Holi is only once a year, Elinor!" "Okay," Mr. Rabbit announced, "everything's ready! Let's get into the car!"
When they got in the car, Elinor picked up her bucket of colors. They came in red, blue, green, yellow and purple. "Why is Holi only once a year?" Elinor asked. Ranger answered. "Good question, Elinor. Holi celebrates the coming of spring." Then, Elinor said, "That is so interesting!"
Elinor was so excited to celebrate Holi with all her friends in Animal Town. "The winter is white, and the spring brings all the colors," a female narrator said as Elinor picked up a glob of purple. "Does everyone like to play Holi?" she asked as they approached to the park. "Certainly everyone in our family does," Ranger told her. Then, a voice screamed, "Happy Holi!" as they got there. It was Elinor's aunt, who has went there before them.
Upon entering, Elinor got purple and pink all over herself. The pink splash came from Olive and the purple splash came from Ari. They were celebrating Holi like everyone else. They were both smothered in all kinds of colors.
"Happy Holi, Elinor!" said Olive happily. "Happy Holi indeed," Ari added. Then, Elinor splashed blue onto both Olive and Ari. "Happy Holi!" Elinor shouted. "Come on," Ari yelled. "Follow me!" And they ran across the park.
Everyone had a great time. They shouted "Happy Holi!" as they threw colors, played in puddles, poured water, threw balloons, and ate delicious Hindu food like samosas, chicken makhani, and boondi ke ladoo. "Happy Holi," greeted Mr. Rabbit. "What's your favorite thing about Holi, Elinor?" asked Ranger. "The colors, and the water," Elinor answered. "And the food too. And I really like the colors!" she giggled.
At the end of the festival, Elinor was ready to get her picture taken. "Smile!" Ranger said, holding her camera. And then, when the picture was taken, the rabbits went home.
"I like everything about Holi," Elinor said, hanging her picture on the fridge. "Except that it's only once a year." As they looked at the two pictures, Ranger simply said, "We should do this next year, Elinor."
