Morning had arrived, and Charlie Brown woke up. He got dressed and went down to make himself breakfast. Before he could make it, Snoopy got off his doghouse, picked up his doggy dish with his mouth, and walked into the Browns' house on his hind legs, demanding breakfast.
"Good grief!" Charlie Brown sighed.
While Charlie Brown prepared Snoopy's breakfast, Sally came down, all dressed, and ready to have her breakfast.
"Morning, Big Brother! Morning, Snoopy!" Sally greeted delightfully.
"Morning, Sally."
"Big Brother. I need your advice." Said Sally.
"What is it, Sally?" Charlie Brown asked his little sister.
"Can you explain love to me?" Sally asked.
"What is there to explain?"
"Say you wanna take your sweet babboo to a movie, a party, or a school dance." Sally explained.
"Okay, Sally." Smirked Charlie Brown. "If you wanna meet your sweet monkey, go to the zoo."
"Zoo? That's a wonderful suggestion, Big Brother! And why would you suggest meeting monkeys…."
Then, Sally noticed what Charlie Brown misheard her say.
"No! Not baboon! Babboo! It's my way of addressing my boyfriend Linus."
"He says he's not your boyfriend, Sally Brown." Charlie Brown said.
Later, Lucy was at her psychiatric booth, waiting for sales, when who should show up but Sally.
"Oh, Hi, Sally." Smiled Lucy.
"I think I need your help, Lucy." Replied Sally.
"Is it to do with your big brother's habit of not succeeding in anything?" asked Lucy, knowing Charlie Brown's failures.
"No, Lucy. It's to do with me. How do I get my sweet babboo to like me?" "That's easy." Smirked Lucy. "Just go to the zoo and take him out of his enclosure."
"Did you send Linus to the zoo?" Sally asked.
"No, though sometimes when he carries his stupid blanket around, or goes to the pumpkin patch to wait for the so-called Great Pumpkin, I wish I could put him in a zoo, with only the monkeys for company." Lucy answered, understanding Linus' childish habits.
"No, Lucy! Not baboon! Babboo!" Sally said angrily.
"Oh, is that what you always call my little brother? But he says he's not your sweet babboo."
"Well what does he know?" said Sally.
Sally's response quickly satisfied Lucy.
"Finally! Something we can both agree on regarding Linus!"
"Okay. Thanks for the help, Lucy." Said Sally.
Sally was just about to leave when Lucy shook her tin.
"Sally! Aren't you forgetting something?" Lucy asked.
"Oh yeah! Silly me!" Sally giggled as she tossed 5 cents into the tin and went away.
"Oh, I can't wait to tell Linus that I want him to take me to the zoo!" Sally said gleefully.
So Sally made her way to the Van Pelt residence. Linus looked out the window, and hid under his blanket.
"Oh no!" groaned Linus as Sally came to his place.
"Yoo-hoo, Linus! Sweet Babboo!" called Sally.
Sally knocked on the Van Pelts' front door, and Linus answered it.
"Oh, hey, Sally." Said Linus with no emotion.
"Hi, Linus! Hey, I have a neat idea!" said Sally. "I got some great advice from your big sister and my big brother, and they suggested that I, Sally Brown, should ask you, my boyfriend, to take me to the zoo and see the monkeys and giraffes."
"I'm not your boyfriend, and I wouldn't take you to a pig farm!"
Linus shut the door in Sally's face, causing her to tumble backward.
"Isn't he the cutest thing?" Sally swooned.
Meanwhile, Lucy was resting at the end of Schroeder's little piano, as usual, trying to earn his affection, as always, whilst Schroeder played Beethoven music.
"Sometimes, the boy takes the girl to a movie, especially a romantic movie. I've learned that from my brother because his girlfriend tries to do the same thing every time."
Schroeder, after realising what Lucy was saying, pulled the piano away, causing Lucy to land on her back.
"Rats!" huffed Lucy.
As Schroeder set up his piano again, Lucy rested on it again.
"So much for my future husband playing Beethoven all the time." Sighed Lucy.
"I'm not your future husband, and I wouldn't marry you if you were the only girl left in the world." Said Schroeder.
"Oh, Schroeder." Said Lucy sadly. "Why wouldn't you wanna marry a beautiful girl like me? Why do you never give me gifts on holidays about giving?"
"I don't like you, you're always crabby, and you always demand everything to go your way." Schroeder answered sternly.
"Fine! Have it your way, Schroeder! I wouldn't wanna marry someone who spends all day playing their piano and obsessing with Beethoven day in day out!"
"Fine!"
"Fine!"
Lucy stomped out of Schroeder's house. But not without Sally walking in. Sally leaned on Schroeder's piano.
"Schroeder. Just the boy I need!" Sally called.
"If you're asking me to be your future husband, forget it!" Schroeder huffed.
"Oh, relax, Schroeder!" smiled Sally. "I'm not interested in you anyway. I need advice. How do you get your sweet babboo to like you?"
"You go to the zoo, ask them to come out of their enclosure, and ask the zookeeper if you would like to keep it as a pet, or you could go to the jungle and capture one for your own." Schroeder smirked.
This angered Sally.
"AARGH! No, no, NO! I did NOT say Sweet Baboon! I said sweet BABBOO! NOT "BABOON"! Sweet BABBOO! B-A-B-B-O-O, Babboo! Are you listening to me?"
"Nope. Never heard of a sweet babboo." Said Schroeder without emotion.
"That's my endearing term for my boyfriend Linus." Smiled Sally.
Schroeder banged on his piano, flinging Sally away in the process.
Sally walked out of Schroeder's house, still thinking of a way to get Linus to like her. Then, she saw her big brother sitting under a tree with Peppermint Patty.
"You know what I don't understand, Chuck?" said Peppermint Patty.
"No, what?" asked Charlie Brown.
"I don't understand love." Peppermint Patty answered.
"Who does?" asked Charlie Brown.
"Can you explain love?" asked Peppermint Patty.
"I suggest a movie, a romantic TV show, a love poem, or a romantic novel, but I can't explain love." Charlie Brown answered.
"Could you at least try explaining love, Chuck?"
"Say," began Charlie Brown. "I happen to see this cute little girl with red hair…"
"Does she really have to be cute? Does she really have to have red hair?" shouted Peppermint Patty.
"Or there is a smart girl…."
"Does she really have to be smart? She doesn't have to be cute, smart, or have red hair! Why can't she have freckles, be in shape, or have a big nose?"
"Alright." Said Charlie Brown. "Let's just say I happen to see this girl with an enormous nose…."
"I DIDN'T SAY AN ENORMOUS NOSE, CHUCK!"
Upon Peppermint Patty yelling at him, Charlie Brown tumbled backward.
"Not only can I not explain love. I can't talk about it either." Charlie Brown answered.
Charlie Brown got up, and continued to speak with Peppermint Patty.
"Sorry, Chuck." Peppermint Patty apologised. "Just a slip of the tongue. Still friends?"
"Still friends." Smiled Charlie Brown as he and Peppermint Patty both shook their hands. Peppermint Patty got excited, realising Charlie Brown was touching her hand.
"Chuck, you're holding my hand. You sly dog!"
Little did Charlie Brown and Peppermint Patty notice that Sally was watching them.
"Slow down, Big Brother!" Thought Sally. "This is just the advice I need to get my sweet babboo to like me!"
Later, Sally went back to the Van Pelt residence to talk with Linus. She knocked on the door, and Linus opened it.
"Oh. It's you again." Sighed Linus.
"Linus, I apologise for bugging you all this time." Said Sally. "I promise to take it easy on you from now on. And I promise never to call you my sweet babboo again."
"Well, you'd better not." Demanded Linus.
"But we can still be friends, right?" smiled Sally as she held out her right hand.
"Yeah, friends."
Linus held out his right hand, and both Linus and Sally shook hands.
"You're holding my hand, Linus! My sweet babboo!" smiled Sally sweetly.
"AAUGH!" Linus yelled upon this remark.
Linus covered himself with his blanket and went back into his house.
"Rats!" huffed Sally.
Sally went back home to ask Snoopy for some advice.
"Snoopy." She said. "I need some help. Every time I talk with Linus in an endearing way, he always gets angry. Is there anything I can do?"
Snoopy got off his doghouse and kissed Sally's nose.
"He he he. A kiss! Thanks for the idea, Snoop!" giggled Sally as she went away again.
Later, Sally saw Linus sitting outside, holding his blanket, and having his eyes shut. Sally snuck up on Linus whilst puckering up. Linus heard the footsteps and opened his eyes, showing an annoyed look.
"Do it, Sally Brown, and I will slug you!" Linus threatened.
"Rats! He knew!"
The next day was a school day. Sally was sitting at her desk. Miss Othmar called out to Sally.
"Yes, Miss Othmar? I understand, Miss Othmar!"
Sally was surprised to hear….
"You mean we have to do our homework with someone else?" Sally exclaimed and was excited to hear…..
"Alright! And I know just who to share my homework with."
And then Sally thought;
"Now I won't have to rely on my big brother to help me with it."
Linus, upon hearing Miss Othmar…
"You mean I have to share my homework with….? Oh, good grief!"
That afternoon, after school had finished for the day, Sally walked up to Charlie Brown to talk about her homework.
"Hey, Big Brother." Called Sally.
"Hey, Sally." Charlie Brown replied.
"I have homework to do." Sally told him.
"So, would you like me to help you with it?" Asked Charlie Brown.
"Nope." Smiled Sally. "Because I'm teaming up with someone to do it."
"Who?" pondered Charlie Brown.
"You'll see, Big Brother."
The door was knocked on, and Charlie Brown went to answer it.
"Oh, hi Linus." Said Charlie Brown as he opened the door.
"Hey, Charlie Brown. Is Sally home?" asked Linus.
"Yes she is. Why?" asked Charlie Brown.
Linus didn't answer as he went to the table where Sally was waiting for him.
"Wait! Don't tell me….."
"That's right, Big Brother!" smiled Sally. "Miss Othmar has assigned our class to work with other classmates with our homework. We're working on a diorama of a jungle. Miss Othmar has teamed me up with my boyfriend."
"I am NOT your boyfriend!" growled Linus.
"Isn't he the cutest thing?" Sally swooned.
It took them a while, but at last, Sally and Linus finished their assignment together…. Except for one thing. While they had trees and water, there were…..
"Where are the animals?" pondered Linus.
"Hmm…." Added Sally. "We need to go to the store to get some toy animals."
"Good idea, Sally." Smiled Linus.
Linus and Sally exited the house. On their way, they met Janice Emmons, who was assigned the same assignment, yet decided on a different kind of diorama. She was wearing her usual outfit.
"Hi, Linus. Hi, Sally." Smiled Janice. "Where are you two going?"
"My boyfriend and I are going to the toy store to buy some animal figurines for our diorama." Smiled Sally.
"I'm not your boyfriend." Linus replied.
"What a coincidence." Said Janice. "I'm going to a store to buy things for a project of my own."
Janice carried on with what she was doing, whereas Linus started to swoon.
"Isn't she the prettiest thing?" sighed Linus dreamily, admiring Janice's long beautiful blonde hair.
Sally started to show jealousy and grabbed Linus by the hand.
"Come on, Sweet Babboo!" called Sally. "We need to get animal figurines for our diorama!"
"AAUGH! I am NOT your sweet babboo!"
On the day their homework was due, Sally had the jungle diorama on her table, while Linus, with great reluctance, waited until it was his and Sally's turn.
"How I wish I was teamed up with Janice instead of Charlie Brown's little sister." Sighed Linus.
Miss Othmar called out Janice's name.
"Me first, Miss Othmar?" Janice asked. "Okay, Miss Othmar."
Janice walked up to the front of the class, and displayed her diorama. It was a diorama of cancer cells, and chemotherapy shooting at them.
"This is the process of chemotherapy," Janice began. "and why it's essential to go through the treatment if you have cancer, and how it makes your hair fall out, just like what I went through during my chemo treatment when I got diagnosed with leukaemia."
Miss Othmar asked Janice if she was a doctor.
"No, Miss Othmar. I'm not a doctor." Chuckled Janice.
Janice handed her diorama to Miss Othmar once she'd done.
Next up were both Linus and Sally.
"Us, Miss Othmar?" asked Sally. "Come on, Linus. Our turn!"
"Okay, I guess." Sighed Linus reluctantly.
Sally and Linus displayed their diorama of the jungle, and a figure of a lion, a monkey, a gorilla, an elephant, an aardvark, a panda, a tiger, a jaguar, and a baboon.
"This is our diorama of the jungle." Sally began.
"Jungles are found in tropical parts of the world, especially in Africa, Asia, and South America." Continued Linus. "They are home to all kinds of different animals, like gorillas, elephants, lions, bears like pandas, and monkeys such as baboons."
"These are actual baboons." Said Sally. "Not babboos like my sweet babboo Linus."
"AAUGH!" Linus growled.
During lunch, Linus sat with Charlie Brown.
"I just can't with your sister, Charlie Brown!" Linus ranted. "She embarrassed me in front of the whole class during our display!"
"Just tell her you're not her sweet babboo." Charlie Brown advised.
"I try, grumbled Linus. "but she keeps brushing it off as if I'm the cutest thing!"
"Oh, how I wish the Little Red-Haired Girl would call me her sweet babboo." Charlie Brown sighed dreamily.
"Really, Charlie Brown?" Linus puzzled.
"Er…. It's a family expression." Charlie Brown replied sheepishly.
As soon as he said this, Sally came over.
"Hey, Big Brother! Hey, Linus!" called Sally.
"Oh. Hey, Sally." Linus said.
"Is there room for a little sister of yours on that bench, Big Brother?" Sally asked sweetly.
"Er…." Charlie Brown stammered.
"Fine! Take it! I'm… er… going to push Janice on the swing." Sighed Linus as he ran off.
"Linus! Come back!" Sally cried.
"Sally. Don't you think you're being a little too clingy to Linus?" asked Charlie Brown.
"Oh, Big Brother. He's the cutest thing. Just imagine. Your best friend becoming your brother-in-law one day!" smiled Sally.
Charlie Brown, hearing what Sally had said, was startled.
"What?! I don't want to marry Lucy!" he exclaimed. "Especially because she always pulls the football away from me!"
And then, he sighed dreamily.
"And most especially when there's a Little Red-Haired Girl who is made just for me. Besides, Lucy's too focused on Schroeder anyway."
"No, Silly." Giggled Sally. "I mean Linus is going to be my husband one day, making him your brother-in-law when the day comes."
"Oh. Of course." Sighed Charlie Brown.
"Just imagine," continued Sally. "Linus being my husband, we'll both be living in a castle in the suburbs while we both use the money from my high-paying job as a nurse."
Linus, who had heard it all while pushing Janice on the swing, called out;
"I am NOT your future husband! And I wouldn't marry you if you were a member of the Royal Family!"
"Isn't he the cutest thing?" swooned Sally.
The next day, upon arriving at school, Sally came across a poster. It was for a school dance.
"School dance on Friday?" Sally cried. "Oh ho! I know my sweet babboo will take me to this dance."
"I am NOT your sweet babboo! And I wouldn't take YOU to a battlefield!" growled Linus.
"Isn't he the sweetest thing?" Sally sighed again.
"AAUGH!" Linus groaned in frustration as he went into class.
After school that day, Charlie Brown went to the phone.
"Come on, Charlie Brown. You can do this." He said to himself. "Just pluck up courage and phone the Little Red-Haired Girl. Invite her to the dance."
Charlie Brown dialled the numbers of the phone, hoping he got the right number.
"Come on, Heather. Pick up the phone…." Charlie Brown begged.
But it wasn't the Little Red-Haired Girl who answered the phone. It was Marcie.
"Hello. This is Marcie speaking." Marcie answered.
"Good grief!" exclaimed Charlie Brown. "I dialled the wrong number!"
"Is that you, Charles?" asked Marcie happily.
"Um. Yes. I was…." Charlie Brown stammered.
"Were you trying to phone Peppermint Patty?" smiled Marcie. "You're in luck, Charles! She's right here!"
"No! Don't…."
But it was no good.
"It's for you, Sir. It's Charles." Said Marcie as she handed the phone to Peppermint Patty.
"Hiya, Chuck!" answered Peppermint Patty. "Did you call me about our next baseball game?"
"Um, no." said Charlie Brown. "I phoned because there's a school dance at my school on Friday."
"Really, Chuck? Well then, I would love to go!" said Peppermint Patty.
"Okay, but I have a friend who would like to take you." said Charlie Brown. "I can give you his number if you like."
"If you say so, Chuck." Sighed Peppermint Patty, who'd wanted Charlie Brown to take her.
After the conversation, Peppermint Patty went into full detail about what Charlie Brown had said.
"Chuck said he has a friend who could take me to the dance." Said Peppermint Patty.
"And?" demanded Marcie.
"I wanted him to take me!" groaned Peppermint Patty.
"You're in love with Charles, aren't you, Sir?" asked Marcie.
"Me?! In love with wishy-washy old Chuck?" sighed Peppermint Patty.
"I know that look, Sir. You can't deny it this time, Sir." Smirked Marcie.
"Fine. I'll get you a date for the dance, Marcie." Said Peppermint Patty. "On two conditions."
"And what might those be, Sir?" asked Marcie.
"One, don't tell Chuck this," began Peppermint Patty. "but…. I am in love with him! And two, stop calling me Sir! I hate it when you call me Sir!"
"If you insist, Ma'am." Answered Marcie.
Peppermint Patty winced at this.
Now that his phone conversation was over, Charlie Brown was about to try phoning the Little Red-Haired Girl again when Sally walked up to him.
"Hey, Big Brother. What are you doing?" Sally asked Charlie Brown.
"I'm trying to invite the Little Red-Haired Girl to the school dance." Said Charlie Brown. "I tried just then, but I called Marcie by mistake, and I am planning to get Peppermint Patty a date. I can't tell who it is because I want Peppermint Patty to be surprised."
"You're too wishy-washy, Big Brother." Said Sally. "I'm just waiting for my boyfriend to ask me to the dance."
The phone just rang, and Charlie Brown answered it.
"Hello?" asked Charlie Brown. He then turned to Sally. "It's for you, Sally."
Sally grabbed the phone, and was surprised to hear it was Linus.
"Hello?" asked Sally.
"I am NOT your boyfriend! And I wouldn't take YOU to an auction!"
Linus hung up, and Sally sighed dreamily.
"Isn't he the sweetest thing?"
Meanwhile, Schroeder was at his house playing his piano with Frieda resting at the end. Lucy came in, very surprised to see Frieda at the end of Schroeder's piano.
"What are you doing here?!" demanded Lucy.
"Who wants to know? Must be because of the music." Answered Frieda.
"Fine." Sighed Lucy.
"If I turned around and gave him a big kiss, would he take me to the school dance?" suggested Frieda.
"Only one way to find out." Answered Lucy.
Frieda put her hands on the piano, and was puckering up, ready to kiss Schroeder. She had her eyes closed. Unbeknownst to the two girls, Schroeder walked away, and Snoopy walked in, and kissed Frieda's lips. Frieda opened her eyes.
"BLEAH!" exclaimed Frieda as she ran away in disgust, realising she had kissed a hound.
"Bleah?!" asked Lucy with confusion.
Schroeder walked back to his piano and continued to play it. Lucy didn't realise that Snoopy was the one who made Frieda cry in disgust and run away.
"You musicians are really something, aren't you?" asked Lucy. "Anyway, since there's a school dance this Friday, will you take me?"
"No. I wouldn't take you to a Beethoven orchestra!" answered Schroeder.
"And why wouldn't you take me to a beautiful school dance?" asked Lucy.
"Because I don't like you." Schroeder answered.
The following day at school, Sally was sitting on a bench, waiting for Linus to sit next to her for lunch.
"Where is my sweet babboo?" asked Sally.
As she asked this, Eudora came over to sit with her.
"Hey, Sally." Eudora said.
"Oh. Hi Eudora." Said Sally.
"Aren't you gonna eat your lunch?" Eudora asked her blonde friend.
"I'm waiting on my sweet babboo." Smiled Sally.
"I think your sweet bamboo is in China, about to be eaten by a bear." Eudora replied, thinking about pandas.
"ARRGH! Not "Bamboo"! BABBOO!" Screamed Sally. Her scream was loud enough to cause Eudora to tumble backwards.
"First my brother, Rerun, Lucy and Schroeder mishear me say "Sweet Baboon", and now Eudora mishears me say "Sweet Bamboo"! That does it! If Linus won't invite me to the school dance, I'll have to invite him myself!"
Sally went up to the swings where Linus was with Janice. Linus was preparing to push Janice on the swing.
"Say, Janice." Said Linus.
"Yes, Linus?" asked Janice.
"Would you like to go to the school dance with me?"
"Oh no!" begged Sally. "Please say no! Please say no!"
"Oh, Linus!" Janice began. "You helped me so much while I was going through my cancer treatment. I would love to go to the dance with you, Sweet Babboo!"
"I…. I am your sweet babboo, Janice." Smiled Linus.
"NO HE'S NOT!" Sally yelled.
Linus walked up to Sally, who he'd just heard.
"Sally, was that you?" Linus asked.
"Yes, Linus. I was hoping you would take me to the school dance! ME!" growled Sally.
Linus just went back to the swing, and pushed Janice. But this didn't go without Sally, who was in Janice's way, getting kicked over by Janice's legs.
When lunch was over, Charlie Brown came to the swings to see Sally.
"Sally?! Are you alright?" Charlie Brown asked. "I'd better get you to the school nurse."
Charlie Brown took his favourite little sister to the school nurse's office to give her an examination. The nurse spoke to him.
"I brought my sister in, Ma'am." Charlie Brown said. "Very well."
And then Charlie Brown left the office.
"Yes, Nurse." Said Sally. "No, my head's just fine. It's my heart. It's been shattered to pieces!"
Sally put her head up and bawled.
Later that day, Sally lay in the beanbag, all upset about what happened. Charlie Brown came over to her.
"Is there something wrong, Sally?" Charlie Brown asked his sister.
"I don't wanna talk about it, Big Brother!" huffed Sally.
"Aw, come on, Sally." Smiled Charlie Brown. "I'm your big brother. I'll see if I can do anything about it."
"Linus invited Janice to the school dance instead of me!" groaned Sally.
"So?"
"Ever since I first laid eyes on Linus, I knew we were meant for each other, but does he know it? No! No! No! No he doesn't!"
And Sally began to cry.
"Sally, if it makes you feel any better, maybe you can invite some other boy to the dance." Charlie Brown suggested.
"I don't want a different boy! I want my sweet babboo! Ah, who am I kidding? Linus is not my sweet babboo anymore!" moaned Sally.
"But he wasn't your sweet babboo to begin with." Said Charlie Brown.
The night of the school dance had arrived. Peppermint Patty was sitting on her doorstep, waiting for the date Charlie Brown got for her. Peppermint Patty was dressed in a green sleeveless formal dress, but retained her brown sandals.
"I hope whoever Chuck got for me is a sharp dresser and a great dancer." Smiled Peppermint Patty.
Peppermint Patty waited for her date to arrive, and upon his arrival, she was shocked. Her date was Pig-Pen, wearing a white dress shirt, tux, and bow tie, all covered in dust.
"You?!" exclaimed Peppermint Patty.
"Hi. I'm Pig-Pen. Are you ready for the dance?"
"I guess so, Pig-Pen." Sighed Peppermint Patty.
And then she thought;
"I wish Chuck was my date."
Peppermint Patty got Marcie a date as promised. Marcie was dressing herself for the dance Charlie Brown told her about, she sported a red sleeveless dress, and was wearing white Mary Janes.
"Oh, I hope Peppermint Patty asked Charles to be my date." Smiled Marcie.
Marcie was shocked by the date Peppermint Patty got her.
"Floyd?!" she exclaimed.
There, standing at the door, was Floyd, dressed in a green tux, white dress shirt, and darker green bow tie.
"Hi, Lamb Cake." Smiled Floyd.
"Alright." Sighed Marcie. "You can take me to the dance. But as long as you stop calling me Lamb Cake."
"Yes, Lam… er, Marcie." Said Floyd.
"That's better."
Upon arriving at the school dance, Charlie Brown, Sally, their dog Snoopy, and Snoopy's little bird friend Woodstock arrived. Charlie Brown was wearing a white dress shirt, black tux, and black bow tie. Sally was dressed in a blue sparkly blouse, and white Mary Janes. Snoopy wasn't dressed in anything formal as he had a trick up his sleeves. Woodstock was dressed formally however. He was wearing a tiny white dress shirt, black tux, and red bow tie.
"I really don't wanna go to this dance, Big Brother." Sighed Sally. "Not when my not-so-sweet babboo is there!"
"Come on, Sally! It'll be fun!" smiled Charlie Brown.
Snoopy walked in first, but he got thrown out, by none other than Lucy, who was wearing a sparkly purple blouse, skirt, purple Mary Janes, and purple crown.
"No dogs!" yelled Lucy.
Charlie Brown walked down to Snoopy, feeling sorry for his lovable hound.
"Sorry, Boy. Dogs aren't allowed in this dance." Said Charlie Brown with sorrow.
Sally, still upset about Linus taking Janice to the dance, showed an evil smile and looked at her brother.
"Woof!"
Woodstock walked in casually, but Lucy threw him out too.
"No birds either!" yelled Lucy.
"Tweet." Sally smirked.
Charlie Brown grabbed Sally's hand, and they both walked into the school dance.
"I just hope the Little Red-Haired Girl is here. I'll just search for her, and maybe she'll notice me and dance with me." suggested Charlie Brown
Sally went to look for Linus. She had stern words for him. She soon found Linus, dancing with Janice.
Linus was dressed in a maroon tux, and a darker maroon bow tie. Janice was dressed in a pink sparkly sleeveless dress, and white Mary Janes. She retained the pink bow in her hair. They were about to dance, but when Linus saw Sally, he knew he was in for it.
"Um…. Hi Sally." Said Linus sheepishly.
"That's right, Linus!" growled Sally.
"Can't you see I'm about to dance with Janice?" Linus asked.
"You should be dancing with me!" yelled Sally. "I want my not-so-sweet babboo to dance with me!"
"I'm not your not-so-sweet babboo!" shouted Linus.
"Of course you're not!" argued Sally. "Because you're about to dance with a girl who has gotten so much attention for no reason!"
This remark from Sally made Linus very angry indeed.
"I oughta slug you!" Yelled Linus, ready to punch Sally.
But Janice held Linus' arm to stop him from punching Sally.
"Come on, Linus!" begged Janice. "Let's not resort to violence. This is a dance, not a boxing ring."
"You're right, Janice." Sighed Linus, taking a deep breath. Then he turned to Sally.
"Sally. The reason Janice got so much attention, the reason she got so many Christmas presents one Christmas, and the reason I invited her to the school dance is….."
"Yes?" asked Sally.
"Janice had leukaemia, which is blood cancer. She went to the hospital for chemotherapy which made her bald until all her cancer cells were killed. Had it not been for the chemotherapy, Janice would've died. I know you're jealous, because her sisters were jealous too. And I was infuriated with a bully who picked on her for her baldness, I had to talk sense into him."
Sally took Linus' words into account. And then…..
"I'm sorry, Linus." She apologised. "And I'm sorry, Janice. Sorry for being jealous of the attention you were receiving. I didn't know you had a life threatening disease."
"That's okay, Sally." Smiled Janice. Then she turned to Linus. "Say, Linus! Why don't you dance with both of us? Sally and I will take turns in dancing with you!"
"That's wonderful! I get to dance with my sweet babboo!" cheered Sally.
"Oh, good grief!" groaned Linus.
"Hold it! What's that music?" Janice asked, hearing some pop music.
All the dance-goers looked at the centre of the dance floor and noticed a lovable hound dressed in an orange sweatband, an orange shirt, and orange legwarmers. We know this is Flashbeagle Snoopy. In the background, Flashbeagle played, and Snoopy danced.
"Hey, Pig-Pen." Called Peppermint Patty. "There's a funny-looking kid. He's got a big nose."
"What?! Flashbeagle? Beagle?" cried Lucy.
Lucy was so infuriated, she walked right up to Flashbeagle, ready to slug him.
"Stop the music!" Lucy demanded.
The music went off.
"I oughta slug you!" growled Lucy.
Lucy tried to slug Snoopy, but Snoopy ducked, and he stood back up and kissed her on the nose.
"Ugh! I've been kissed by a dog! I've been poisoned! Ugh!" cried Lucy as she ran off in disgust.
"Draw hot water! Draw a bath! Get some iodine!"
Snoopy just laughed at what he made Lucy do, and then the music continued.
Schroeder was just sitting at the piano he brought to the dance. He was dressed in a black tux and a black bow tie. Frieda was sneaking up on Schroeder, and was about to kiss his right cheek. Frieda was dressed in a yellow blouse, a yellow pleated skirt, and black Mary Janes.
"Now's my chance." Thought Frieda. "I'll have to kiss him while he's not looking."
Lucy got back after cleaning her face from the hound germs she'd received. She saw Frieda about to kiss Schroeder.
"I've got to kiss Schroeder before Frieda does." Lucy thought.
When Lucy got to Schroeder's left cheek, she kissed it. Just as Frieda kissed Schroeder's right cheek. Schroeder looked at the two girls.
"Ugh! I've been kissed by two girls! I've been poisoned! Draw a bath! Get some antidote!" cried Schroeder as he ran off in disgust.
Charlie Brown was still searching for the Little Red-Haired Girl. And suddenly…..
"There's the Little Red-Haired Girl!" Charlie Brown exclaimed.
There was the Little Red-Haired Girl, with her hair in a flip-style, dressed in her sparkling teal formal dress, matching aquamarine bow in her hair, and white Mary Janes, dancing on her own.
"Now's my chance!" Charlie Brown thought. "I'm going to dance with her… Come on, Charlie Brown."
Charlie Brown approached the Little Red-Haired Girl, and he needed to attract her attention.
"Heather?" Charlie Brown called to the Little Red-Haired Girl.
Heather the Little Red-Haired Girl heard what Charlie Brown just said to her, and turned her attention to him.
"Oh!" Heather said in surprise. "Hi, Charlie Brown!"
"Wanna dance with your sweet babboo?" Charlie Brown asked her.
"Sweet Babboo?" Heather was puzzled. She'd never heard that term before.
"Um…. It's a family expression." Charlie Brown answered sheepishly.
"Don't mind if I do, my Sweet Babboo!" smiled Heather.
Charlie Brown started dancing with Heather. They held each other's hands, and Heather touched Charlie Brown's nose with her own, causing Charlie Brown's face to turn redder than Heather's hair.
Once the school dance was over, everyone was ready to go home. Peppermint Patty walked out with Pig-Pen, and Marcie walked out with Floyd.
"What a magical evening!" sighed Peppermint Patty dreamily. "Chuck's dirty friend is a better dancer than I expected!"
Pig-Pen looked at Peppermint Patty, and kissed her, turning her eyes into love hearts.
"You're lucky, Sir." Replied Marcie. "But my dance with Floyd was alright. At least he didn't call me Lamb Cake. Not once tonight."
"It was fun, wasn't it….. Marcie?" asked Floyd.
Marcie looked at Floyd, and nodded in agreement. For once, Floyd stopped calling her "Lamb Cake".
Linus walked out with both Janice and Sally.
"I had a great time tonight. Better than I expected." Said Linus.
"This dance was even better than I hoped!" said Sally.
"It was fun!" added Janice.
"My big brother got to dance with that Red-Haired Girl," Sally began. "though I wish he'd danced with Marcie instead, but that doesn't let me down. However, the best part of the dance is…."
"Yes?" Linus asked.
"I got to dance with Linus! I did it! I danced with my sweet babboo!" Sally cheered.
Normally, Linus would get angry with Sally calling him her "Sweet Babboo". However, because of tonight's events, he started to smile upon hearing this pet name.
"I am your sweet babboo, Sally!" Linus smiled. "For dancing so well tonight, and for taking turns with Janice in dancing with me, and for apologising to us, you can call me your sweet babboo all you want."
"Really?" exclaimed Sally. "Oh, thank you, Linus! You are such a gentleman! Sweet Babboo!"
Sally hugged Linus affectionately, and kissed his cheek. Janice watched with a look of grief on her face.
"I guess I'll have to find a different sweet babboo." Janice sighed.
Don't worry, Janice. One of these days, you'll get Linus back.
