Prologue:
Retired General Jack O'Neill took a seat across from General Samantha Carter.
"Sorry I'm late." Jack flashed a smile.
"No your actually right on time." Sam gave a soft smile. The candle light on the table gave off a soft glow. The restaurant was mild a buzz with talking and dishes clanking.
"Ahh good, good." Jack smiled back. "So anything look good on the menu?"
"Yes all of it to be exact." Sam admitted. "But I'm just glad your here."
Jack smiled again. "You know what Carter I was thinking the same thing."
Sam leaned in close to Jack. "This is nice, thank you. After everything at Stargate Command and Homeworld Security..."
Jack hushed her. "Hey, none of that work stuff here. I'm retired, your on vacation. The others can figure it out. Miss Moneybags has it covered."
Jack was referring to tech-guru, billionaire-in-charge, Mackenzie Donovan. Her company, SpceTyme was that of a immediate rival to the likes of Elon Musk or even Jeff Bezos, controlled the funding for the Stargate now. In addition, Mackenzie was in contact with the president, who was due that week to reveal a redacted low-key announcement of the Stargate Program, while also maintaining the secrecy. Honestly if if wasn't for Mackenzie, the Destiny would of never come home, with its crew safe and all, and not to mention the first human built Stargate.
Sam laughed a little. "You know you are still on the advisory committee right. And you know technically she is both of our bosses'"
"Ahh, right, right, still don't like her attitude though. Not enough can do spirit if you ask me." Jack half deadpanned.
"Alright your, right. No more work stuff."
"Finally, I think I'll have the steak." Jack glanced at the menu.
Just then a hush came over the patrons of the restaurant as everyone's phones began to alert to messages. Apparently some news had just broken.
Sam's phone lit up.
"Hey, I thought we said no phones." Jack shot a look of disapproval.
"Hang on. I need to take this." Sam flashed a single finger while getting up. One of the hosts turned on the news on one of the tv's. Sam motioned for them to turn up the sound.
"Breaking Tonight: Real or Hoax? An investigation repot into the live-stream video, the internet is talking about. Vigilante hacker group, Revxlutixn X, known for their Doxing and AI Deep-Fake attacks, claim that they have obtained the 'motherload' of government secrets and information. This all thanks to a reported security bug found in tech and consumer innovation company, SpceTyme Corp, who in recent years have picked up a large government acquisition contract. Whether this is linked to the video has yet to be verified, but with the President having a know press conference it appears that a link could be made in the coming days. In the video the group claims they have found plans for that of a traveling device known simply as the 'Stargate'. The group, while not shown building it, are seen activating it and stepping though some sort of a portal. Many claim that this was just some special effects, but the group warned they have 'many more secrets to reveal'. They also claim that there is a time limit in which they will expose 'the truth'. No comment from that of the President or from SpceTyme head Mackenzie Donovan at this time. We'll update you when more information comes in. In other news..."
Thank you. Same mouthed to the host before finishing the phone call. "Yep thank you."
Jack's brow furrowed. "What the hell was that?"
"We've got a problem."
"Ya think."
"Well a car's coming to pick me up. I'm needed back on base. So rain-check?"
"I'm coming to."
"Really?"
Jack's face fell. "I'm on the committee, aren't I?"
Sam smiled.
"Well?" Jack urged. "Let's get a move on!"
Sam and Jack hurried out of the restaurant and into an awaiting car.
Today was going to be a long day...
