Days had turned into weeks, weeks into months, and months into years. Ev finished school and Skye dropped out of school.

While Skye met others and started to become a hacker. Ev joined SHIELD and quickly became really good. She was working with her parents, Natasha and Clint and so many other agents. One obvious thing to all was that she was good at what she did and knew it.

She was walking back into the hub with Nat and Clint as they just got back from a mission together.

"All I'm saying is if we are not careful this girl is taking both of our jobs."

"O please Clint, I'm not that good. Plus I have grown up around this, look at who my parents are. Did you really expect anything else?"

"She has you on that Clint."

"This is the only thing bad about working with both of you. You like to gang up on me."

"Poor baby." Nat and I laughed at the pout on his face and then looked around as we walked in. There was a lot going on and people were going every way running all over.

"What's going on?" Nat asked as an agent walked by.

"A mission in Bahrain didn't go as planned." He said before walking away.

"Nat, mom, and dad were there."

"Let's go." We started to walk and found Victoria.

"What happened?"

"I don't know all the details yet but I have heard they lost people but I don't think it was any agents."

"I need to call them." Pulling out my phone I walked a little away from them and called dad.

"Please pick up." It rang a few times before he answered."

"Hello"

"Daddy"

"Ev, are you alright? I thought you were with Romanoff and Barton?"
"I am, I was. We are back and I just heard, are you and mom alright?"

"Ev…"

"Is mom ok?" I felt like I was going to collapse at any moment.

"Physically I think she will be ok but I don't know, she's having a hard time."

"Where are you going?"

"I'm not sure, where are you?"

"At The Hub with Nat and Clint."

"You stay there and we will come to you."

"Daddy."

"I know sweetie, we will be there soon. I love you."

"I love you too." We got off the phone and I walked back over to them.

"Dad says that mom is going to be alright physically but I know something happened, Nat. Dad was holding back something and… I can't lose her Nat, I just can't."

"You won't lose her" Nat pulled me into her arms and hugged me.

"Take her to my office, I will let you know when they are here."

"Thank you" I felt Nat and Clint lead me away and I tried to hold it together.

Once we were in the office the dam broke and I let the tears fall. Nat held me until I drifted off.

When I woke I saw dad standing in front of me.

"Daddy"

"Hi sweetie, do you want to go see your mom?"

"Yes"

"Come on" He pulled me into a hug before we made our way to the medical wing where mom was being taken care of.

As we walked in I saw mom sitting on the bed a doctor taking care of her and mom had a faraway look on her face.

"Mom" She seemed to snap out of it and looked at me. I had fresh tears running down my face and mom held her arms out to me.

"Come here Love" I walked into her arms and she gently started to run her hand through my hair as she had so many times while I had been growing up.

I was not sure how long we stayed like that but I could stay this way forever.

The next few weeks were difficult for the once close family and Melinda left fieldwork.

Phil and Ev were out for lunch after her training for the day.

"So how are things going?"

"Good I like working with Nat and Clint and I have worked with Bobbie a few times now as well and it feels like it is going really well. I enjoy working in SHIELD."

"I'm glad, I know they were excited to work with you."

"Dad, what is going on? I know there is something you want to talk about but you are not sure how. So please just say it."

"Your mom is having a hard time and I know we both want to help her but she also needs some time."

"What are you saying, dad?"

"She has decided that she is going to get an apartment by herself for a while."

"What?"

"I know that a lot has happened and this changes nothing with you. We both love you so much your mom is just needing some space."

"Is that what she said, she needs space. I might not know what happened because you both won't talk about it but I do know we are supposed to be a family."

"We are, nothing will change that, nothing ever could. This has nothing to do with us loving you because we both love you so very much. Your mom is trying to process everything and she does not want to hurt us by making us watch."

"Because her walking away doesn't hurt?"

"She's not walking away."
"You're not even going to fight for her? After everything we have all been through together, this is how it ends. You know I have a meeting that I can't be late for. I will see you later bye dad." Getting up Ev started to walk out.

"Ev wait please."

"I can't do this. I already lost one mom and I can't lose another one." With that Ev walked out and felt her heartbreak at the thought of losing another mom.

Skye was working on erasing all of her history. She would be a ghost while she looked for her Parents. No longer would she be Mary Sue Poots but just Skye. She knew somewhere she had to be able to find some information about her past she just didn't know where it would be waiting for.

While waiting for things to finish erasing she looked at the picture she had from that sweet three months when she was a teen. She smiled at the two young faces with bright smiles and so full of hopes and dreams.

If only she could go back to that moment and stay in it forever she would.

Once again she thought about looking for Ev thinking she would have moved on to college or something that people with families would do.

"I miss you Ev" she heard the door open.

"Are you done yet?"

"Just finished, what now?"

"Now you will be a part of the Rising Tide and we will take down the ones who keep secrets from us and think that we can't handle what is going on in your own world. I will teach you everything that I know and maybe you will be of some use."

"I want to help people Miles, people should not be left in the dark no matter what might be waiting in the light for them."

"Then let's do this." He came over to Skye before placing a kiss on her lips.

"Don't worry babe we got this."

Skye started to follow his lead hoping that this was the right choice and path for her.

She found herself wondering what life could have been had things gone differently when she had been fifteen but there was nothing more that she could do to change that anymore.

As much as she missed the girl she was then there was no way that she would be coming back at this point in time and it was something she would have to accept.

So both friends sat on opposite sides of the country wishing they could go back and do things differently. If only that was how life worked out.
