'Was that your first kiss?' Maekar asked after their lips parted, noticing her blush as she turned away from him. 'I'm guessing you didn't enjoy it.'
'No, it's not that,' Alys realized that she just told him she liked it. 'And yes, it was my first.' She added, embarrassed that her first kiss happened in her late thirties. After her cheeks cooled off Alys turned to him, making eye contact. Whenever she did this, she always found herself hypnotized by his purple eyes.
'I suspect my children know about us,' said Maekar. 'Would you mind it if they knew?'
'I think the question should be would your children mind our...arrangement?'
He paced back and forth while she watches him contemplating an answer. He always took things so seriously but he had a side not many knew of, a side of him that he had shown her to be honorable and gentle, not the monster so many have considered him to be.
'Aegon wouldn't mind,' Maekar said confidently of his favorite son. 'The others I'm not so sure of.'
'I'll not be unhappy if we go our separate ways,' Alys said, her head held high but her heart said differently. 'Come here.' she added a few moments later and he obeyed.
Alys placed a hand on his cheek, the other holding his calloused hand. Maekar, leaned on her soft, tiny hand all while not taking his eyes off hers.
I love you, he wanted to say, but instead, he gave her another kiss, a kiss she would remember for the rest of her days.
