[Disclaimer: I don't own FMA. I watched the 4-komas and had a bizarre thought.]
"That's right. I am . . . the fastest homunculus . . . of them all."
Sloth moved forward at top speed. (What a pain. But maybe, maybe if he did it this way, the fight would actually end.)
Then the window was open, and Sloth shot out into the open air, defying gravity for a moment. The world blurred by too fast for him to process. He was on the ground, sort of rolling forward, before realizing he should probably stop now. So he did. And he sat up, and looked around.
"Where . . . am I?"
No one answered. No one was around at all. It was a forest, but he'd rarely ever been outside of the tunnel, and not to someplace so warm. There was no sign of Central, or civilization in general. Just trees.
"What a pain."
Right now, he had two options. He could run back to Central, however long that took, and keep fighting those people. Or, he could lie down here and take a nap. He could get in trouble with Father. He'd been ordered to kill the woman General before he could rest. But if Sloth didn't know where he was, would Father? It wasn't something he'd do on purpose, but now that he was here, was there any reason to leave?
Sloth sat down, and leaned against a tree. There was some moss around, making this more comfortable than some places he'd slept. He closed his eyes, and was asleep in an instant.
"Sloth?"
An incredulous voice woke him up. He opened his eyes slowly, with a groan. He had . . . leaves on him. And moss growing around his legs. And there was someone standing nearby who had used a very familiar voice.
"Pride." Sloth usually only saw Pride's shadow form, rarely the human appearance. This looked right from what he remembered, but it was . . . bigger? "I'm still . . . sleepy."
Pride actually twitched. "Sloth," he started, voice sounding on the brink of impatience, "you've been asleep, for fifteen years."
"Oh." That explained some things. "Do I have to, dig now?"
"What? No. You finished that, remember?" Pride sighed, rubbing his forehead. "Get up. You're coming back with me. And then you can rest."
Oh. Pride turned around and starting moving away with utter confidence that Sloth would follow. Well, if he could rest again soon, then yeah, he could do that. A little odd, but no one had ever lied about if he could rest before. He certainly wasn't about to complain.
