Ali Von-El was born on the planet Krypton in 1989. Her father Von-El was a prominent member of the Kryptonian Science Guild and quite well known. Her mother Alura Von-El was a judicator and an extremely influential figure along with her sister Astra. Astra was a member of the Kryptonian Military guild and served as a general protecting Krypton from its enemies.
From a young age, it was obvious to everyone that Ali was a prodigy when it came to anything related to science. This pleased Von-El and Alura immensely. While she was considered a prodigy in the sciences, she idolized her mother and aunt. She wanted to help people jute like them weather that be fighting to protect her home or ensuring Justice would be done.
When she had turned ten on krypton, she had to make a choice on which career to pursue. She had written down all the pros and cons of joining each guild and she couldn't decide. She wanted to help people but couldn't decide which guild would help people the most. It was later that night during a family dinner that she asked for advice.
"Father, Mother. I need your advice." Ali announced as dinner was finished.
"Oh, what did you need advice on my dear?" Alura asked.
"Does it pertain to your decision on which guild you would like to dedicate yourself to?"
"Yes Father, I have debated the pros and cons of each guild and have compared them logically." She explained with growing frustration. "But I can't choose! I've tried to argue it over and over, but the outcome is always the same. Logically I could choose either guild or the outcomes would be similar."
It was at this point that both parents shared a look between themselves over their daughter's head. Ali's frustration was beginning to boil over, and tears were starting to form before her mother wrapped her in a hug.
"Little star, it is okay. There is nothing to worry about." Alura whispered into Ali's hair. "I want you to answer a question for me, can you do that?"
Ali couldn't speak so she nodded into her mother's shoulder.
"OK I want you to really think about this. Ignore the guilds and everything else. What do you want to do, what do you think you could dedicate your life to? I am not referring to a job, I'm talking about your Ideals."
Ali had been ready to complain that she was the one asking for advice when those words struck her. What did she want? She had often swayed between wanting to be like her father or being like her mother. She wanted to help people, to protect them and make their lives better.
"I want to help people in any way I can. I want to protect people and help to make their lives better." Ali stated with a confident smile. "But which guild would help more?"
"I don't think it truly matters Ali." Stated Von. "You know what you want which guild do you think would help people more?"
"In a perfect krypton I would like to choose both so I could help as many people as I could from both sides of the spectrum."
Von and Alurs smiled at her. "Then that is what well do." Von stated with finality, joining the hug his wife and daughter were already doing.
1 Month After Impact Fury POV
"Alright people," Fury began looking at Coulson and Hill seated at the table with him. "It has been a month since the arrival of the 084 codenamed Sleeping Beauty. Have there been any new developments?"
"We were finally able to get a complete scan of her body, and after a careful assessment of the crater we were able to find a trace amount of blood." Hill explained pulling the results up on the screen. "Her body appears to be mostly human in appearance, with the notable exceptions being her heart rate and respiratory rate, which are 40 bpm and one breath every four minutes."
"How can that be if her body appears human?"
"We believe it has to do with the blood sample we found." Coulson interjected, flicking to the next slide. "We were able to scan her DNA and discovered something interesting. She is not human; however, we cannot conclusively say if she isn't a mutant or alien as aside from the scans of her DNA, she presents just like a regular human."
"Has she shown any signs of waking up?"
"No sir, however, were able to finally get a scan of her brain activity using a high-powered ground penetrating radar." Hill continued. "It didn't pierce her skin, but it was able to give use several images indicating similar brain activity to someone in a comatose state."
"Where is she now and what did you mean about her DNA Coulson?" Fury asked.
"She is currently being monitored in a long-term care ward at a privately funded hospital under the alias Jane Doe." He answered promptly. "We have people monitoring her condition for any changes. Her DNA is a quadra-helix unlike our own DNA which is a double helix."
"Interesting, does that indicate anything on its own?" Fury questioned. "Does it explain her seeming invulnerability?"
"Unknown sir, we have nothing to compare it to, however we made a rather unsettling discovery about her blood." Coulson began hesitantly. "According to our experts it seems that her blood has yet to die, since leaving her body. It isn't growing into anything, but it has not died and continues to function just like if it was still in her body."
"Interesting, but what does that mean in the practical and long term?"
"Well sir." Hill began. "It appears that she could be unageing. Her blood shows no signs of deterioration, and her body seems to have fully healed. There also appears to be no sigh=ns of muscle atrophy due to her comatose state. It is possible that she may be very long lived and old already or be in at the start of something else."
"Something else Agent Hill?" Fury asked curious at the agents' hesitance.
"Well sir, there was the Tesseract, followed by the Danvers incident which you experienced." She spoke. "The Puente Antigua incident followed by her arrival. Is it possible that she is the start of something more as the incidents between extra terrestrials seem to be growing in number and intensity?"
Fury paused to consider the merit of her idea. It was just as likely to be true as any other theory, and that worried him greatly. He was already working on several projects to hopefully help counteract that danger, the avengers and phase two would both be helpful for that.
"Your concerns do have merit Hill and we will continue with the Avengers and Phase 2 projects. I am also concerned with sleeping Beauty's appearance and what it means for earth in the greater cosmos." He said looking both Coulson and Hill in the eyes. "Keep monitoring her, and inform me if something changes"
"Yes sir!" they both coursed.
Ali Von-L Memories
Ali Von-L stared at the familiar skyline of Metropolis is both joy and sadness. Her universe had been sacrificed so that the others could live, but sometimes she wished she had gone with it. Now she was on a mirror to her world, where everything was here, but it was all so different.
Her cousin Kal was younger than her here, and he already had a version of her here as well. She couldn't be Supergirl here and that also tore her up inside. When she looked at Kal and her younger counterpart it was hard not to see the ghosts of what had and could have been. She remembered the first time she emerged from her ship in earth's atmosphere and there he was. Her baby cousin was grown up, had a wife and family, but he still welcomed her with open arms.
She tensed when she heard a set of feet land behind her, _ herself for getting caught up in her memories to not register his presence. She could hear and feel him walk up beside her and join her in staring at the skyline.
"You know, I used to do this a lot when I first moved here." He began with a wistful tone. "I would come up here when I was overwhelmed or feeling melancholy and iw ould just watch and listen to the world around me."
"I know." Ali answered. "You taught me to do the same thing when I first arrived on earth. Well, the other you did."
"I am sorry Ali." He said with sincerity. "I know this must be difficult, and I am here to help you in any way I can."
"I know you are, your just like him in that regard," She said with watery eyes. "It is just so hard to look at you and hot see him. He sacrificed himself to save me and now I am a stranger in some strange mirror world where everything is so similar and yet so different."
Kal is silent as he just stares off into the distance before finally turing to her.
"What do you want to do? He asks, then winces. "By that I mean do you want to be a hero still, do you want to just have a normal life? After all, you deserve some peace after losing your world."
At that reminder Ali's eyes begin to leak as she starts to cry.
"Do you know why I don't where your symbol Kal?" She chokes out.
"I assumed you didn't want to accidentally be confused with your younger counterpart." He answered with a slight tilt of his head. "Or that you didn't want to be accused of trying to steal her identity."
Ali looked down at the full body white and red bodysuit she wore. It was simple in its design, very formfitting, leaving little to the imagination. She wore a full red cape, and her suit had red accents accentuating her curves. It was a nice costume, but it didn't have their coat of arms on it.
"I never put the crest on because I wanted to do something worthy of it before I did. Kal was such a hero on my earth that people basically worshiped the deeds he had done." She explained. "I wanted to live up to that, but no matter what I did, I was always comparing myself to his past deeds."
"I don't think he would have minded if you wore the crest." He said hesitantly.
"Your absolutely right, he wouldn't have cared if I wore it." She confirmed as she turned to look at him. "But that wasn't the point, this crest means something. It means hope and stands for our family motto El Mayarah 'Stronger Together'. I guess I just wanted my symbol to mean the same thing."
"I think he would be proud of you Ali." Kal said wrapping her in a hug as she began to cry on his shoulder. "He would be proud of the woman you've become, and he would want you to move on. Live for yourself and let no one dictate what you should do. It is your life, and you decide how you want to live it."
He held the older version of his cousin until she finally stopped crying and the sun had set. They parted ways, and when she returned to the watchtower, her costume had changed. Instead of it being white and red with no symbol it was now white and gold, and on the center of her chest was the crest of a bird. On earth it would be a phoenix, but on krypton it was the symbol of Flamebird. She had also removed her cape and exchanged it for a golden skirt the emerged from her waste and went around behind her but left the front of her legs exposed.
Have you decided on a name?" He asked, already thinking he knew the answer.
She nodded beaming back at him. "I chose the name phoenix because I think that it encapsulates my story well. It also pays homage to the stories of Flamebrid and Nightwing I grew up on."
"Well then Phoenix, welcome to the Justice League."
2 Months after Impact
Again, Fury was in a progress meeting, this time however he was accompanied by two more agents that would be brought into the fold of the operation. Agents Barton and Romanov were being read into several ongoing projects that their expertise could be utilized upon.
"Alright agents let's sit down and begin." He commanded, sitting at the head of the table.
Coulson as always sat to his left while hill sat on his right. Barton sat next to Coulson, across from Romanov who sat next to Hill.
"First order of business: The Avengers Initiative." He turned to Barton and Romanov. "What do the both of you think of the candidates so far?"
Barton and Romanov looked at each other before Barton nodded for her to go first. She nodded and began her report.
"Director, I am a little confused as to the purpose of the Initiative, was the mission statement meant to be that vague?"
"Yes, Agent Romanov it was." He replied before gesturing to the screen as Hill pulled the relevant feeds. One showed two green monsters slugging it out in the streets of Harlem. The next showed a man in gold and iron armor fighting along side another suit in black and gray. The next was black and white footage of captain America. The second to last was a scene of a man with long blonde hair wielding lightning and a Warhammer. The last was the one neither of them recognized showing a woman in a hospital bed.
"I stand by my opinion on Tony Stark not being viable for the Initiative, however his friends Colonel James Rhodes would fit in well with the proposed structure of Shield." She began. "On the Hulk, I do not believe that he should be included as based off of footage and reports he seems to be a berserker type of fighter with little to no reason in skills besides random moments of lucidity."
"A fairly accurate assessment, however you didn't mention Doctor Banner or Captain Rogers." He stated. "Why?"
"Well, Doctor banner while having a doctorate in Physics is not a soldier. He is an enhanced civilian with little to no supervision beside his own conscience." She explained. "Captain rogers would be an Ideal candidate provided he is mentally sound after the death of everything he knew from the 40's."
"Harsh Nat." Clint winced at her tact.
"But not incorrect." Hill Stated nodding to the screen as a series of shots of Captain rogers were shown. "He has refused the therapist we provided and has spent nearly every day going to the Mad Dawg Gym, which has been open since the 30s and which he used to frequent. He seems to be avoiding any associations and attempts at reintegrating to society."
"I can't really blame the guy, he lost everything and now the world is completely different." Clint mused. "It is like he is an alien who got dropped on a futuristic planet. He doesn't know anything and doesn't want to know anything."
"I concur." Said Hill nodding at his analysis.
"I still think he will eventually settle his issues; however, I think what would bring him back into the world is a mission, something he can focus on." Coulson interjected. "I think the Avengers Initiative, when activated will spur him to be a hero again."
"It also doesn't hurt that he will be able to sign you vintage trading cards eh Coulson?"
"I fail so see how that matters in the slightest Clint, regardless of how special those cards are."
Clint and Natasha both snorted and Hill covered her mouth with her hand before Director Fury got them back on track.
"both of you have been read in on Sleeping Beauty." He stated meeting their eyes. "What is your opinion on her and her situation."
"Has anyone tried kissing her?" Clint asked with a smirk, before wincing as Natasha kicked him under the table. "What it's a legitimate suggestion?"
"No, it isn't dumbass." Natasha said with an eye roll. "Despite his rather crude suggestion, does anyone have a better idea to wake her up?"
There was a pause where they all looked to Fury before he shrugged.
"We have tried everything humanly possible to force her to wake up, but we have had no luck, in fact it is almost like she doesn't feel anything we do to her."
"Then that could mean either of two things, either no one is home, or she is so deep within her own psyche, she might as well be dead." Natasha stated.
"Well, this meeting is over. Continue as you were. Barton, make sure you keep an eye on the tesseract and Dr. Selvig. I don't want anything to happen to either of them."
"Yes sir." He replied with a two-finger salute before leaving the room.
Fury stared once more at the image of sleeping beauty.
"I hope you wake up soon, and I hope you won't be hostile.
Ali Von Doom Memories
Ali Von Doom stared into the infinite void around her and pondered her purpose in life. Over her long life she had been many things. A student. A friend. A queen. A sorcerer. And most recently, she became a god. But now she was left with nothing but her body and mind staring into infinity.
"Was it all worth it Ali?" Susan Storm asked, placing a hand on her shoulder.
That question was what caused Ali to break down and cry.
"No Susan it wasn't." She said between sobs, turning to look at the woman who was like a sister to her. "And I hate that it wasn't! I had all the power in the universe. I had saved so many people, but Reed couldn't see that! Of course, he could do better! He had already seen what went wrong with my version but NO! Reed Richards must but in and ruin things!"
Ali screamed out into the void before she was pulled into a tight hug by Susan, who held her while she screamed and cried. Susan gently patted her back and her daughter Valeria came and joined the hug as well.
"It is going to be ok Aunt Ali." Valeria said looking up at her with a small smile. "This was always going to happen, and I always knew. You were an excellent aunt though and I hope that when this is all over you will still be my aunt."
That made her pause, and stare down in bafflement at Valeria Richards. Valeria just smiled and looked up into her eyes with a small smile. Ali whipped her eyes and pulled Valeria up onto her shoulders like she used to do.
"Well then, let us see what new world Richards has created for us all, I hope he did a better job than me." She said as they began to march toward the portal home.
"What will you do Ali?" Susan asked. "I do not know, but what ever it is it will be the start of a brand-new adventure."
Ali, Susan, and Valeria walked through the portal into their new reality and that universe was as it should be.
3 Months after Impact
The first thing Ali noticed upon waking was the change in her surroundings, the second was the sheer pain she felt from all her senses. Her nose burned as if she was inhaling fire, and her ears rang with a cacophony of millions of noises she couldn't distinguish. Her skin felt as if it was being blasted with sandpaper and razorblade. When she opened her eyes, she was overwhelmed by the colors and all that she could see. She closed her eyes and covered her ears, trying not to panic as she breathed through her mouth and not her nose.
As she began to calm, she focused on trying to remember what had happened and why the world was suddenly pain. It was in this moment of calm when she remembered her death and meeting Gaea and being reborn. As she tried to remember her life, she also noticed she had memories that she shouldn't have.
She remembered the spires of Argo city and studying to be part of the military and science guilds. She remembers growing up on Krypton, but also on earth. She remembers the sunsets of Latveria from her castle, and the friendships she had with the Justice league. She remembers her mother being taken by a demon lord and remembers her parents dying when krypton was destroyed. The memories and the inconsistencies begin to overwhelm her causing her to lose consciousness as her mind struggles to reconcile everything. She loses consciousness just in time for several doctors and nurses to burst into the room to check on her.
One Day Later
When Ali regains consciousness, her mind is clearer. After she had lost consciousness, her mind had worked overtime to integrate and assimilate the memories of four different lives. The memories of Kara Zor-El, Kara Zor-L and Victor von doom had been stripped of their emotional context and simply been added to her knowledge. Her most prominent memories were those of her life as Ali, a simple human girl who was reincarnated by Gaea.
This time when she woke the sensory overload was more manageable and using the memories of her other selves, she was able to tune down her senses one by one. The first was touch, it went from sandpaper and metal shavings to a simple and soft texture. Her hearing was reduced to a manageable level as she focused on her own body forcing her hearing to only listen to her own heart. Her nose took the second longest as there were so many scents that she could hardly believe people lived like this before she was able to reduce the burn to a normal level.
The last and hardest to adjust was her eyes. When she opened them, it was not an exaggeration to say she could see everything. She could see through the walls around her, through the people in them, and she could even see all the particles in the air. She could see radiation, and how it passed through solid matter, and she imagined herself pulling back until she could only see the room. It took several minutes of intense focus and drawing on her memories before she was able to remove her focus and not be overwhelmed again.
It was this pulling back and almost meditation that allowed her to discover something else alarming. She could feel her solar energy, and it was nowhere near it should have been compared to her memories. She could feel it like a reservoir in the center of her chest, filling her body with power. The reservoir also seemed to be slowly filling up as well. She needed a way to gauge how much energy her abilities would use, because if she was flying and ran out of energy, she could die from the fall.
She decided to practice with her vision, and hearing, to scope the area around her. The room she was in was a simple white room, with several machines monitoring her health. She was currently laying in a bed on her back. There were several chairs scattered around the room, but no one else in the room. There were no windows, and only a single door which on closer examination appeared to open from the outside.
She focused on her hearing, expanding it slowly first to encompass the room she was in. This led her to discover the four cameras in each corner. She could hear them and when she looked in those corners, she didn't see them. She then focused on one of the corners with her eyes, willing the layers of reality to fold away. It took a moment, but she was able to find each camera by sight and sound.
She expanded her hearing again to encompass the outside of her room and discovered several heartbeats. There were five of them. Four of the heartbeats were stationed around the four corners of the room and the fifth was moving along the wall to her right. She focused with her eyes again and was able to see into the hallways around her room. The four seemed to be men of average height and build, they were carrying sidearms and wearing vests with the logo of an eagle in flight. They seemed alert, but not overtly threatening. The fifth seemed to be a middle-aged balding man in a suit. He had a folder under his arm and was walking at a sedate pace towards the door to her room.
She reduced her vision to only the room as he approached and opened the door. He smiled at seeing her awake and sitting up, before he made his way over to one of the chairs in the room near her bed, but not so close as to seem threatening.
"Hello miss." He began in a friendly tone. "My name is Phil Coulson, and I work for the Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division. Now we have some questions for you as you have been in a coma for several months."
"I see you are going with the soft sell Agent Coulson." She heard a voice say. She looked at this Coulson again and saw he had an earbud in.
She opened her mouth to speak when she coughed from the disuse of her vocal cords. He was quick to act and gave her a water bottle he grabbed from a fridge located under her bed. She took a few sips of water before she began again.
"That would be fine, could you answer some of mine as well please?" She asked, while trying to remember why that organization sounded familiar.
"Certainly." He nodded with a smile. "First off, Do you remember your name, your age and what year it is?"
She had to pause and think for a bit, searching through her memories for what year. She came up with four answers and decided to use the one from Gaea's world. As for the name she decided to go with an amalgam of hers, the Karas and Victor's.
"My name is Ali Von-El, I am 21 and the year is 2010." She said confidently.
"Interesting, ask her the spelling of her name and where she is from." The voice ordered Coulson.
"Could you spell your name for me please?"
She did so, clarifying the dash between Von and El.
"And where are you from?" He asked.
She decided to be truthful as based off the fact that she did have a memory of an organization named SHIELD, which was a part of Doom's memories. From his memories they seemed to be as honorable organization as a spy agency could be. She looked up towards where the sky would be and began pealing away layers until she could see the sky. She located the area in which Krypton would be and pointed towards it.
"I am from the planet Krypton about 27 light years that way." She said nonchalantly.
To his credit Phil did not do more than blink at the statement before he nodded, seeming to get over his shock rather quickly.
"Ok, there is a lot to unpack in that statement." Phil responded with the same nonchalance. "Do you have any proof of that statement? I'm not doubting you it is just your planet name is also a name of an element and you have been in a coma for three months."
"Three months!" She exclaimed, causing Coulson to tense, before he settled back down. "Has it really been three months?"
"Yes Ms. Von-El you impacted in roughly the middle of the state of Kansas. You were completely naked and quite injured." He gestured to her face. "Only the scars on your face have not healed, other than that you seem to be in perfect health based off what we can determine."
"What kind of proof were you wanting?" She asked, then gestured to the hospital gown she was wearing. "And could I get some regular clothes please?"
"Certainly," He reached up to his earpiece and asked if a jumpsuit could be provided. "As for proof, did you have a spaceship or some information we could use to prove your statement? Also, do you have any abilities we should know about?"
"I do not have a spaceship, although I could build one if I had the requisite materials." She said thoughtfully. "I could list species of aliens I know about, but unless you have left earth or already encountered them then you wouldn't know about them. As for abilities, my people had increased speed, strength, and durability. We also had enhanced senses and could fly."
"Have her list prominent species. Also, she said her people had abilities, past tense."
"We have encountered other species in passing, could you list several prominent races that you know about?" Coulson asked. "Also, you said had as in past tense could you expand on that?"
She began to look through all her memories and began to list several of them out loud. She also decided to include both universes' species in her list.
"Kryptonians, Daxamites, Skrulls, Asgardians, Oans, Kree, and Titans. As for my people," She sighed bowing her head to look at her lap. "They are most likely extinct."
"I am sorry to hear that. How did that happen if you don't mind me asking?" He asked. "Also, could you describe Daxamites and Skrulls?"
"Have you encountered them before?" Ari asked hopefully.
"We have encountered several alien races over the past few decades, but some might have gone by different names." He explained patiently.
"Well, Daxamites look just like humans, and Skrulls are shapeshifters, but their base form is usually a bald green humanoid with pointed ears." She explained. "As for Krypton, you need to understand that Krypton was an old civilization. We had over 20,000 years of recorded history and more before that when we lost the records."
"That seems like a civilization that was going to last, but there must have been problems?"
"There were. Initially Kryptonians were conquerors they spread out, conquering, and assimilating many different civilizations into their empire. Eventually they came to a moral realization. They abandoned their outposts and returned to krypton, becoming xenophobic and isolationist. Because of this they began to mine the planet's core for energy."
"That doesn't sound like it would be a good idea." Coulson remarked.
"It wasn't. My uncle Jor-El discovered the instability and began to prepare to save his unborn child Kal. He made a spaceship, something that hadn't been done in hundreds of years and my father Von-El made a similar one for me based off his designs. But they were both wrong. They didn't have the correct amount of time and the planet began to rupture and decay."
"Then how did you arrive here?"
Ali paused for a moment, debating on what to tell him, and by extension his organization. She decided to not include the reincarnation bit and make something up.
"I believe it was due to several factors." She paused gathering her thoughts for the lie she was about to tell. "One thing you must know is Kryptonians, and Daxamites to a certain extent, absorb solar energy. We evolved on a world without a lot of vegetation, so our bodies absorbed solar radiation to sustain ourselves with a minimum of food."
Coulson's eyes widened minutely at that information, recalling that she healed in the sun when they were transporting her to and between facilities. He winced when he realized that keeping her in an isolated room, with no access to light might have been a bad thing.
"Our bodies are constantly absorbing solar radiation, and we can feel our own internal stores, much like if you were hungry." She explained. "I believe that the ship my father was designing detonated when the planet was destroyed. I was in the ship at the time, and I believe the explosion of the phantom drive created a lensing effect, bathing my body in blue solar rays and propelling me away from the explosion."
Ali was quite proud of the explanation that she had come up with. She was quite certain that the people of earth wouldn't be able to disprove it. It also neatly set up why she fell out of orbit and crashed into the earth. Based off her memories it was a common occurrence for an alien to land on earth minus any equipment.
"That is quite an unbelievable story." Phil stated. "However, I am not here to nitpick your story. I am here to determine if you are a threat to the people of earth. So, are you a threat to the people of earth?"
"Why would you even tell me that?"
"I've been told I'm a good judge of character." He said with confidence. "So, my boss, who wants to meet you by the way, trusts my judgement. I'm willing to go out on a limb and place some trust in you and see how things go from there."
Ali paused to think for a moment. She could easily break away at any point, so the risk of being imprisoned was mute, and if she worked with SHIELD then she would probably be allowed access to their resources. However, she would most likely have to shell out some of krypton's technology to help them in exchange.
"I don't believe I would be a threat to the earth; however, I would defend myself if I was attacked." She stated confidently meeting Coulson's eyes.
He considered her for a moment before he nodded at her with a smile.
"Excellent, now let's discuss the particulars of you immigrating to America. After all we can't say you're an alien!" He chuckled.
Ali joined him in laughter before he pulled out a large folder filled with paper for them to go through. It was going to be a pain.
