Spoilers for Season 6
I refuse to kill or get rid of the nurses unless it is entirely necessary to the storyline.
It was at Clinic the following Tuesday that Sister Mia was given a surprise. A much-needed one. Sister Evangelina seemed to be examining what looked like, little Angela Turner's doll. Mrs Turner or Nurse Turner as she was in uniform was running around like a headless chicken. She was extremely flushed and out of breath. Sister Mia paused in the doorway before pulling her coat off and placing her bag in the kitchen adjoining the hall before returning to find Shelagh leaning over a pile of paper.
"That is enough Nurse Turner, let us move to the kitchen and get you a drink. You look far too warm for my liking and as a nurse, I'm going to put it right!" Mia told her with a voice of authority before staring Shelagh by the arm into the kitchen and pouring her a glass of lemonade with ice. "Now what seems to be the matter, you look unwell?"
"Oh Sister Mia you are observant aren't you, nothing escapes your eyes does it?" Shelagh joked but her smile dropped. "I'm pregnant Sister!"
"Oh Shelagh, does anyone know of this newest development? I'm sure I was told you could not conceive," Mia muttered with a grin on her face. Mia and her mother pray for Shelagh every night. Shelagh pulled a face which didn't go unnoticed by Mia was gazing at her intently. "This is your reward for your patience. Now, do you know when the little one is due?"
"Some time in November- December. I feel so unprepared for it all!" Shelagh tells Mia as she sips her tea thoughtfully.
"Shelagh that is where we come in, I assume you have told my mother as she has refused to tell me what has made her so happy these last few days. And Patrick has been extremely happy and energetic. How about the children?"
Mia glanced across the hall to wear she could see Angela perched on Sister Evangelina's hip with her baby doll in hand.
"Yes, Timothy already knew though, he is a very intelligent boy to say he is only 15. Although you are the same age and you are already a midwife so age is irrelevant. Timothy said he was going to come and tell you the news but I guess he never found you?" Shelagh suggested.
"No he mustn't have caught me. With all my work at the clinic and the maternity home I'm rarely at Nonnatus and when I am, I'm either in the chapel or in my room doing spiritual things l," Mia realised. "I have the evening off tonight, if you don't mind I can pop round and see everyone. It has been a while since I have been on a social call to your house!"
"That would be lovely Sister!" Shelagh concluded.
As Mia cycled to the Turners she realised how little she had seen Timothy recently. She was close friends with him at one point. Mia had always been happy to help out at the cubs and now at the scouts but since she had taken on being a Sister she had hardly and time with Timothy or his family for that matter.
Little Angela had missed seeing Mia. Mia happened to be brilliant with little Angela.
Mia pulled her bike to a steady halt outside the Turners house and pulled her bike up the path and leant it against the tree. She knocked on the door. Patrick pulled it open and warmly welcomed Mia in. Patrick to get coat and hung it up as Mia followed him in the lounge where Shelagh was sat on the couch with a packet of pink wafers. Timothy was sat on the floor playing with Angela who was dressed in a long pink nightgown that trailed on the floor that Mia assumed belonged to Shelagh.
"Mi-Mi!" Angela shouted running towards the nun who pulled her into her lap. "Baby got chicken pox!"
Angela reached for the doll that was now covered in red spots. Mia had to bite her lip to stop the laugh that was threatening to protrude from her lips.
"Angela found my pink felt too pen for my art project and now her doll had 'chicken pox'" Timothy said guilty.
"How about I take baby back to Nonnatus and make her better and then I'll bring her to you tomorrow morning before my rounds. I need to collect the district files anyway and it means I won't have to cycle back and forth!" Mia told the little girl and her parents. "Will you be here Tim?"
I have nothing else to do," Timothy replied with a cheeky smile. "Why don't you come for ice cream with me and Angela tomorrow?"
"If I can get my rounds done early I certainly will!" Mia replied. "I must be going it will be nearly mealtime at Nonnatus!"
"You must stay for food Mum's made shepherds pie, you used to love mum's shepherds pie!" Timothy insisted.
"I'm not supposed to eat outside the convent there the rules Tim,sorry," Mia apologised.
"Please Mi-Mi!" Angela pleaded her eyes filling with tears at the thought of Mia leaving already.
"Just this once Angie," Mia concluded. "I'll help lay the table!"
Mia crept back into Nonnatus that evening. She slowly closed the door and tiptoed back to her room desperate not to notify anyone of her presence. However the parlour door was open and Sister Evangelina spotted her.
"Where do you think your going young lady?" Sister Evangelina asked angrily . Mia dropped her head to the floor and she walked into the parlour sinking down into her chair. "You missed dinner and you have missed most of recreational time. Where have you been it is almost time for Compline!"
"I've been with the Turners, and I had food whilst I was there on Angela's request. Mum tomorrow once I've finished my rounds I'm going to take Angela for ice cream as Shelagh is unwell and Patrick will be at the maternity home," Mia told her mum but was interrupted before she could continue.
"Is Master Turner not able to luck after his sister until Dr Turner returns?" Sister Winifred suggested. Mia shot her a pointed look before Mi spoke up again.
"You always tell me see people if my age and that is what I'm doing whilst helping out a friend!" Mia said back by. Sister Evangelina didn't press the matter so everyone continued with there handi- crafts.
