Chapter 1
You Have To
It was inspection day at the Lookout, and all the pups were busy tuning up their trucks. As was to be expected, Rocky had finished before the other pups, and was looking around to see if he could help one of the others. He just loved fixing things. After looking around for a bit, he found Rubble, seemingly having some trouble with his rig. He then walked up to the bulldog and asked, "Do you need any help, Rubble?"
"Actually," began the bulldog, before explaining the problem.
Rocky smiled, knowing exactly how to fix this, and went to work. In less than five minutes, everything was fixed.
Rubble was in awe. "How did you do that?"
Rocky then proceeded to proudly explain everything exactly as he understood it. Five minutes later, he looked back at Rubble, who looked bored.
"What? he asked
"Do I look like a scientist you, Rocky? Could you please explain it without all those fancy words?"
"But you understood Kendra's fancy words in the movie," replied Rocky
"The movie is a different continuity," explained Rubble.
Rocky nodded in acknowledgment and thought about how he could explain this in less technical way, and then attempted to do so. However, judging by the look on Rubble's face, he had not been too successful in doing so. After trying again, and getting the same results, Rocky finally just said, "I really can't explain it any other way."
Rubble then groaned in frustration.
After taking a deep breath to calm himself, Rocky began, "I'm sorry Rubble, but I really can't explain it any other way."
"Can't you be more normal Rocky?" asked the frustrated bulldog. "I mean, don't you have to anyway?"
"What are you tal…" began Rocky before Rubble cut him off.
"Ryder said that because you think differently, you have to act like everybody else to fit in," explained Rubble in a somewhat haughty tone.
Rocky's jaw dropped, and he looked back at him dumbfounded as he processed what he had just said. Two minutes later, Rocky's dumbstruck look curled into an angry frown. "Fix your own damn truck!" shouted Rocky, before storming off.
As he got further away, Rocky began venting, "stupid Rubble, stupid dumb bulldog, stupid, entitled, dumb son of a bitch," as he teared up.
