-Prologue: The End of Vegeta: Bardock's First Selfless Action-
The year is Age 735. It was at the height of power for the power of Frieza's empire, alongside the height of power for a being of monkey-like humanoids known as the Saiyans. With the simian civilization under Frieza's control growing in power and influence within the empire, especially with the fear and paranoia of a legendary Saiyan whose own power dwarfed his own, the evil emperor resolved to kill all of them by gathering every last Saiyan on Planet Vegeta and vaporizing the planet. While a few Sayians suspected a possible betrayal against their race by the tyrant, the only one who knew of his true plans was Bardock, a powerful Saiyan that had an attempt on his life. Together with his wife, Gine, they took their one year old son, Kakarot, and placed him inside a Saiyan Pod. The infant son of Bardock was confused, upset, afraid as he bawled within the pod, as Bardock and Gine leapt through the rocky crags of Vegeta to get him out, arguing along the way.
"Bardock, what if Frieza doesn't come as you said he would?" Gine asked, feeling her soul tearing her son cries.
"Then I'll go and rescue him. I've set the coordinates to a planet called "Earth", where he'll be raised well if we can't get him," Bardock replied, stoic, yet still feeling his soul rended as Kakarot cried on. However, he continued to a rocky wasteland, facing away from the knowing eye of the tyrant. "It's most likely off radar for Frieza and the other Saiyans, so he'll have a better life there than here." Gine's frown turns as she faces her husband.
"I'd thought I'll never see a Saiyan like you care about his own son!" she half-joked, smiling a little. Bardock turns to his wife, exasperated, but with a slight smile on his rough face. "You know, I've always been the destructive type. It would feel good to have done something to save other people."
He then sets down the pod onto the ground, the red tinted window facing the two Saiyan adults as they look in and see the infant Kakarot in the pod, stopping his crying as he looked at the two, tears still streaming down his eyes. The two then feel emotions: Gine the same tears that her son's feeling, and Bardock a stoic look that is betrayed by his inner turmoil on sending him away from the doomed planet. They set their hands on the pod, the baby setting his own hands on the pod.
"This Pod will be on an auto-pilot to a planet called Earth. If we're still alive, I will come and get you!" Bardock said to his boy, soothing his soul. "I will miss you. Please be safe and never forget about us, Kakarot!" Gine cried out.
The pod springs to life, the two watching as their child is going off into deep space. Unfortunately for the two, this will be the final time they see Kakarot, as the world and their race were annihilated by Frieza, as Bardock had foreseen. As for the Saiyan Pod? It went off course by colliding with an asteroid, tumbling the pod into a wormhole, as it took the young Saiyan's pod and enveloped it in its darkness. However, this isn't the end for the son of Bardock, but an unusual warp to a different Earth, one that had no magical wish-granting dragons or demons, or capsules or martial arts masters with energy attacks, but one where a bright baby started an evolution of humanity, where heroes and villains from the comics jumped into real life and where society has become 80% of these new humans to use their powers in a bid to become their country's Number One Hero. And this is the story of the young Saiyan's journey to becoming a legendary Hero in Japan.
-Part 1: The Childhood of Son Goku. Chapter 1: Enter Son Goku, the Mystery Baby-
Fourteen years ago, Year 2135, a couple from Mufutasu was hiking in a remote forest a few kilometers to escape from the busywork of the city. During the sunset, they had noticed a white streak in the sky and marveled at the sight of it. As it grew closer, however, they grew nervous and took cover as the object flew right over their heads, crashing a hundred meters out. As they took a look at the sphere and its large impact crater, coming closer to get a look at it, they saw it open and inside was an infant, probably no heavier than a couple sacks of flour.
"Why would there be a baby in this thing?" the man, a mid-20's man with a stocky figure, asked, looking confused at the object and inspecting it at all angles.
"I don't know, but I don't want to leave him in this forest, Gohan," the woman, an early 20's woman with a petite figure, said as she fixated on the baby. The baby was wiggling, slowly awakening and mumbling, his stomach rumbling. She noticed a big goose bump on his head, as she puts him in her arms.
"Me neither, Mikai... I'll try to find where he came from and if we can't find where he's from, we'll raise him like he's our own," Gohan affirmed. While the infant is a bit hungry and hurt from tumbling around, he took an immediate liking to his adoptive parents and his monkey tail wiggles, causing Mikai to smile gently.
"Aww, he looks so happy seeing us!" she says, as she gives the baby a gentle hug, causing him to start giggling. "Hmm... What should we name him?"
Gohan looks and sees the tail, an idea sprung forth as he recalled a story he read when he was in high school. "I think he should be named 'Goku', because of his monkey-like tail."
"Son Goku... That's kinda like the Chinese character Sun Wukong! But it is a sweet name for such a sweet boy!" The baby responded well to the name "Goku", much to their happiness. Before the couple left, however, Gohan took out a phone, photographed the unidentified object, and sent the picture via text to one of his Hero friends
The couple leaves the forest, and the object behind. They had raised the boy as if he was their own child, down to having a false story of his birth whenever the two are asked about him. To officiate their claims, they even received a falsified birth certificate that is identical to the real one by mail addressed to Son Goku, its address untraceable, simply stating "Raise him well". While he ate a lot even for a baby in their time, he was still fit and light. As he grew older, he started to recognize the world around him, and in particular loved to watch the exploits of Heroes on the television and online, especially with his father telling him stories of his days. This was the first spark within the young boy, and he aspired to be a Hero, to make his mother and father proud. On occasion, the three go to a clean part of Takoba Beach and watch the turtles come in, engrossing the young Goku in wonderment. Sadly, the increasingly disgusting conditions of the beach drove the turtles away as it turned into an unofficial dumping ground.
At age four, he was taken to the doctor's office at the Irumu Clinic Facility for a physical evaluation as kids his age do. As they tested him, they had found an unusual anomaly with him. His fifth toe joint should be non-existent and it isn't, yet he still manifested a monkey's tail.
"Son Mikai and Son Gohan, your son is unusual, even for a boy with a Quirk." The doctor replied.
"Huh, is there something wrong with him, doctor?" Mikai replied in shock.
"Oh, far from it, he's a very healthy boy!" the doctor reassured them. "But normal people with Quirks, they usually wouldn't have their second fifth toe joints. As I had told my last patient, he had bad luck and was born without a Quirk, while his father had a fire-breathing Quirk and his mother a levitation Quirk." He had shown them the X-Rays, first of a normal Quirk person, then of Goku's for his demonstration, finally showing the boy's x-rays and between the two boys, they have the same toe joints the Quirk x-ray doesn't. "Another abnormality I noticed is that none of your Quirks would reasonably go to making your boy into how he is. However, he likely had a mutation in his Quirk Factor. It's rare, but it's not unheard of and he had developed well, so there's no risks for any health complications." The couple sighs in relief.
"That's a relief, doc. I was worried about him being bullied in school, since Quirks are becoming so common that being Quirkless is seen as being handicapped," Gohan mused, the doctor nodding with a morose expression. "Indeed. However, with this boy, his cognitive development has been stunted from a traumatic event. It's because of this that by my recommendation, you home-school him, since he responds positively to you two."
"O-oh... I can help with that," Mikai replies, a bit meek.
"Excellent, then I have no reason to keep you here. I hope you have a good day," the doctor said, bowing in thanks for their time.
The three left the office, Goku looking a bit glum.
"Does this mean I'm stupid, Mom and Dad...?" he asked, looking as if he had failed something.
"No, not at all, Goku." Gohan remarked immediately, putting a hand on his son's head, to the latter's irritation. "He just means that you might have more... difficulty in a standardized school setting."
"But as long as your dad and I can help you by teaching you, you'll be as smart and warmhearted as All Might!" Mikai chimed. The young and ever impressionable Goku smiled brightly, as if he had never been told any bad news at all.
"Yeah! I'll be the greatest Hero!" The kid cheered on, the two parents smiling happily as they walked out of the hospital.
The years grew out, as Son Gohan and Son Mikai raised Goku, teaching him in their free time, but they soon felt not only was he getting stronger to the point they can't keep up, but he was getting distracted during their lessons. To help him exhaust his seemingly endless pit of energy, as well as to help motivate him to take his studies seriously, he was allowed to take some martial arts classes on the side, starting with Gohan personally training Goku his martial art style. To their surprise, Goku took to fighting immediately, soon climbing up the ranks of the schools at lightning pace! And thankfully, their promise to give him more martial arts training training paid off in dividends, as Goku was able to learn efficiently and overcome the handicap his head injury had left him. And with Mikai and Gohan's support in helping him develop socially, the young boy became kind and respectful towards his peers, even if they were bullying him about his tail, as Mutation Quirks are seen negatively. Thankfully for the family, Gohan's day job as Mochi-Mochi the Rice Hero had allowed them to stay afloat even when the boy eats a lot of their money away with his giant appetite.
However, one night, in the year 2142, the three were out on a walk in the forest, with the three having sunglasses just above their eyes. As the sun came down and the moon was rising, they all looked at it, but when Goku saw it, he stood still like a stone statue.
"Goku? What's wrong?" Mikai asked.
No reply. Just a vacant stare at the moon. Soon, his irises flashed to a ruby red as he started to growl like a gorilla, startling the adults.
"Goku!" Gohan yelled in worry. He instinctively tried to force the glasses onto him, but it was too late. The otherwise small boy started to grow to a colossal beast, a giant gorilla with an equally impressive, large tail. The beast roars and beats its chest to the moon, the sound reaching the nearby cityscape. Gohan activated his Quirk on instinct, his skin turning white.
"Mikai, run!" he yelled, as they started to run. The giant ape's rampage was limited to the forest they were walking through, the trees being flattened under its feet.
But it wasn't too long before a Hero arrived. The man looked like a Samurai of old, complete with a katana to his left. The beast looked into his eye, and he back into it, as he saw the figure of a child with a tail in the beast's eye. Knowing whatever this thing is isn't destroying on purpose, he closes in on it at astonishing speeds. The ape tries to slam its hand onto the samurai figure and breathe a blue beam of fire, roaring the entire "fight", but he was too nimble for its attacks to connect. As soon as he got to the back side, a single slash at the beast's tail was enough to stop its rampage. The tail being forced off caused the ape to turn back into the young boy, he leaps up and catches him as he lands. The Samurai started to approach Gohan and Mikai, as they got out of their hiding spots in horror.
"D-Did you kill him...?" Mikai said, shaking as she saw the unconscious Goku in his hands.
"No. He is still alive. However, I am sorry. I had no choice, but to cut off his tail. Otherwise he would have been a threat to Japan," the Hero remarked, looking down at the unconscious child.
"W-wait, you wouldn't happen to be Yokoi Musha, right?" Gohan asked, shaken by his boy's rampage.
"Indeed I am. However, please don't let this happen again. It will reflect badly on your ranking, Mochi-Mochi." Yokoi said, before he escorted the couple and Goku back to Mufutasu. Despite the incident that would be dubbed The Great Ape Incident, Goku still doted and loved his parents, and they loved him back. However, that incident awakened a well of energy within Goku. He felt it ebb and flow everywhere, especially within himself, but he cannot call upon it.
More years come and go, as inspired by Yokoi's heroics, Goku moonlit as a Vigilante and stopped petty Villains when his parents were off in bed, as Gohan was only active during the day hours. His speed and strength was enough that the most he would get are bruises, and that no one would know it was him. The only truly hairy encounter the young boy had was with a man in black with goggles on, and yet he felt the Hero's glare on him, though before the man could identify the Vigilante, Goku was able to flee. Another encounter saw him getting a close call from being spotted by an absolutely giant man with blubber akin to an elephant walrus. Throughout the Underground Hero and Vigilante scenes, tall tales popped up about the Vigilante, Kid Kong: a super strong and fast kid who had a Quirk resembling that of the No. 1 Hero: All Might. Gohan, finally having caught wind of the Vigilante tales and realizing just who "Kid Kong" was, gave Goku the ultimatum: No more vigilantism, or no more Martial Arts. Wisely, Goku chose the former. While his father was normally cool, HIFL hath no fury like a subtly furious cool guy.
At the age of 11, the young Goku's tail mysteriously came back one night. To the two parents, this was weird, but to the young boy, he had realized what this meant. He cannot grow as a Hero if he transforms into that monster and loses control again. That brown, bushy tail and the moonlight was why he almost killed his parents by accident.
"Dad, can we go to the forest?" The young Goku asked.
"That's not a problem, my son. Though I have to ask, why is your tail back?" Gohan replied, Goku looking a bit glum.
"I need to train myself to control that giant monster," Goku said, a bit bleak. "Without that tail, I haven't turned into it, even when my eyes hit the full moon. However, my tail is super sensitive. If there's enough pressure on my tail, I can't move at all, which could be enough to stop my transformation! And I have no doubt you're strong enough, Dad!"
"...That is incredibly risky, Goku. But if there's a chance you can control that giant form, then I will help you however I can because you're my boy." Gohan spoke, patting his son on the back reassuringly. The monkey boy smiled gently, his tail swaying gently. With Mikai being told of the situation, she allowed the two to train on the condition Goku comes back alive, unsure if Yokoi will be merciful towards Goku this time around.
And so, the hardest training the young Goku had to endure started. With Gohan nearby, Goku started to meditate. He had felt as if everything was breathing, everything had a gentle sway. Experimentally, Goku had open his eyes up to the full-moon, shining brilliantly. Of course, he was still as a statue at first, and his coarse breathing returned.
"Goku, remember to keep calm. Empty your mind and don't let your rage consume you," Gohan reassured his son. However, his breathing got more rapid and he started to growl.
But before he could start his transformation, he felt a sharp tinge in his tail. His father gripped the tail, weakening his boy as he fell face-first. While a bit saddened about this failure, the duo continued to train.
Compared to Martial Arts, this was an absolute nightmare. Not only was his tail growing stronger, but the progress made to control the Great Ape Form itself was barely enough. However, to the pair's relief, when Goku did fully transform into a Great Ape, the giant form had started to retain enough of Goku's personality to where he can now exist without major problems, given that he's in the forest and not in the cityscapes, that is.
"Dad! I did it! I'm a giant ape and I'm not mindless!" Goku whooped in excitement, his booming voice echoing.
"Shh, sh sh sh... I'm proud of you, Goku, but please be quiet," Gohan whispered, the giant ape scratching the back of his head and chuckling. "That is great progress, Goku. I am so proud of you, for everything that you've done!"
It took nearly a year and a half of constant meditation, moongazing, and emergency grabs, but at the end of it, Goku had enough control over the Ape form to where he is able to not mindlessly destroy everything around him. It was still far from true control, however, he is not going to be destroying cityscapes and killing recklessly.
By the age of 13, it was impossible for him to learn any new martial arts that he doesn't already know involving hand-to-hand. To make up for it, he started taking bojutsu classes, an interesting character being a girl roughly his age with a ponytail, eyes as sharp as a hawk's and a fair bit taller than the relatively small boy. Of course during that time, the two had sparred, Goku was surprised as he was defeated by his opponent, a thing that he hadn't experienced in a while. However, he was happy, laughing in joy at his own defeat. He started to grow, from a still small boy to someone resembling a human adult by the age of 15. And very soon, he and his parents went to UA to register their child in the Hero Course, as Goku started training more intensely. One more visit to Takobah revealed to the boy the No. 1 Hero, alongside a lean boy with green hair. However, he did not want to disturb either of them, despite all the endurance training the trash would have provided him and left. His accidental intelope had not escaped the buff Hero's vision, having felt a presence nearly like his own from the boy.
Author's Notes: I do actually have quite a bit of writing in this entire fanfic, though I'm editing it on a chapter-by-chapter basis. Also, reading through other fanfics and seeing exactly how they do their styles is something I am doing. Mostly because it gives me a different perspective and biases. If there are things I can improve upon, please let me know. By the time this is out, I'll likely have Chapter 2 out.
Original The Characters Introduced:
Son Gohan. Age: 24. (39 in the Present Day) Profession: Pro Hero. Alias: The Rice Hero Mochi-Mochi. Quirk: Sticky Rice. Standing at 1.82m and weighing 95.5kg, Gohan is a small-time Pro Hero, known for his sticky rice skin Quirk allowing him to easily apprehend melee specialists, granted they don't pack knives or guns on their person. In order for the Quirk to work, Gohan requires a kilogram of rice over the course of three days, having trained it from needing a kilogram of rice every day. On his off-time, he's a bookworm, reading about old stories from millennia ago. While homeschooling Goku, Gohan was responsible for teaching him about the basic Hero protocols, physical education, and literature.
Son Mikai. Age: 21. (36 in the Present Day) Profession: Chef. Quirk: Citrus Oils. At 1.72m and weighing in at 70.2kg, Mikai met Gohan while he was on lunch break. Later that day, she was being mugged by a knife-wielding Quirk user. Despite the chest slashes against him, Gohan had rescued Mikai, and from there, they dated. A year later, they officially married, a certain Bakugou was the bridesmaid at the wedding. Her citrus oils embed within anything she wills, calming the nerves of anyone who consumes foodstuffs with said oils in their foods. She was in charge of teaching mathematics, social cues, and science to her adoptive son.
And yes, I don't know if there's an official name for the place the four year old Midoriya went to, but in case there's no suitable name, I gave it the name of Irumu, after the planet Ilum, famous in Star Wars lore for being a place where the new Jedi are born by grabbing their kyber crystals. And I'd imagine it would be a rather standard clinic more than a hospital.
