Type in "We're Gonna Need a Sports-Training Montage" for Maximum Effect for this Chapter, especially if you sporadically skip between the Goku-Midoriya segment and the Momo segment to sell that training montage look. Otherwise, it was gonna be a ~5.5k word splurge, and I'd rather not that unless it makes sense.
-Chapter 7.1: We're Gonna Need a little Montage (montage~)-
As the days tick from UA, Goku found more peace in his mediation. To the point he came to the clean Takobah Beach to meditate, to see the turtles again, to hear and feel the ocean, it was perfectly tranquil. Of course, as precaution, Mikai had Gohan head out with Goku, though neither father nor son had a problem with it.
"Well, blow me down... You weren't kidding, son. This entire beach is completely trash-free...!" Gohan said in amazement.
"I know, right?!" Goku spoke out. "It feels so nice coming back out here!"
"No kidding. I should bring Mikai out during my off-day and relax. Alright, Goku, show me what you can do with your Quirk."
At first, Goku started to levitate. He can't go anywhere, and it's kind of like Uraraka had use her Quirk on him. However, to his shock, he sees his own son flying.
"What the-?! I had no idea you could fly! That's incredible!" Gohan shouted, smiling brightly as he brought out his phone to record.
"It feels weird, but I'm gonna make it my own power!" Goku yelled out, estatic.
"Now there's my boy! I am so proud of you!" Gohan replied, recording the entire thing.
A day later, Midoriya approached the beach, shocked to see Goku and Gohan at the beach already.
"Hmm? What are you doing here, Midoriya? Did I accidentally intrude on your space?" Goku asked.
"I was gonna ask the same thing, Goku!" Midoriya replied, before he looks at Gohan. "O-oh, I was intruding! I had no idea you were training him, Mochi-Mochi!" However, the Father of Goku simply chuckled.
"Don't worry about it, Midoriya. I'm just here overlooking Goku's for the Sports Festival. Actually, Goku had been talking a lot about you, even wanting to invite you over! Is that alright with you?" Gohan asked.
"Sounds good to me! I'll just need to let my mom know." His friend accepted Gohan's request, to the Saiyan's joy. Soon, he got the affirmation and nodded that he's ready.
"I knew you were good, Midoriya. Alright, let's get our training started," Gohan exclaimed.
The two started their impromptu training, Goku helping Midoriya further realize his Quirk, while Midoriya tried to help Goku however he could. Then he bore witness to Goku using his blue explosions, and through intense focus, was able to get it down to a cone shape. With further training and an additional arm, the cone eventually became a concentrated beam of energy, not unlike Aoyama's Laser, but much thicker.
"W-woah! What's that power?!" Midoriya yelled in amazement.
"I... Have no idea! I just recalled Aoyama's laser Quirk and tried to focus my energy into my palms to fire in a beam," Goku tried to answer.
"You're seriously amazing, Goku!" Midoriya affirmed his admiration of his friend.
"Though you should be careful of that beam, son. While as your guardian I am giving you guys permission to use your Quirks for training purposes, I would rather not have Police Force agents breathing down my neck over a thick beam over the oceans," Gohan clarified. "However, that was pretty awesome either way!"
"What about you, how's your Quirk coming along?" Goku asked in Midoriya's direction. He was brightly smiling.
"I think I'm getting what you meant by fully cloaking myself in my Quirk's energy!" Midoriya said, a bit excitedly, as he empties his mind and concentrates, feeling his power flow through him, red cracks appearing throughout his body, and with a small puff, the cracks disappear as Midoriya weakly glows and greenish blue electricity crackles around him. His friend's eyes lit up, as if Christmas had come super early!
"Woah! That's awesome, Midoriya!" Goku was awestruck, excitingly saying as he can't keep his joy in himself any longer. "What do you think you're gonna call that thing?" Midoriya was thinking about it.
"I think I should call it Full Cowl... Kinda like Batman and his cowl and cape, you know?" Midoriya responded. "It isn't exactly like your power-up, since I don't feel angrier."
"Hah... A man of my heart, Midoriya. Apparently, you were breaking your own arm using your Quirk. Good job on finding a way to use it without that horrific side effect!" Gohan nods.
"That name's kinda cool!" Goku commented. If there's one thing Goku is consistent with, is that he usually speaks simply.
The two continued to train to the last day with a small spar on the last day. Goku and Gohan had to reteach him some of the basics of fighting, but his friend was able to pick up on it quickly, the sparring coming to an end with a tie. Toshinori was spying from afar, shocked and amazed that Goku is helping Midoriya realize One For All, and being stunned with Goku's energy attacks; especially his beam, which can now fire out to 100 meters out before it harmlessly dissipates, and his admittedly slow flight. How...? This cannot just be a mere super strength Mutation Quirk like he read on Goku's file, that's an Emitter Quirk. It cannot be that the work of that Villain, because he's been inactive ever since All Might defeated him. However, out of gratitude for helping Midoriya further realize One For All, All Might resolves to eventually let Goku in on the deeper truth of his being, as Goku knows only that he has the spindly form. Soon, the two boys leave the beach to head home, the two are ready for the Festival, and they will show to the world their might!
Right after school was out before the two weeks to the Festival, Yaoyorozu, reflecting on not only Goku's words, but the situation back at the USJ, where Jiro and she were forced to surrender when a Villain had endured Kaminari's Quirk and held him hostage. If it hadn't been for Goku's accidental save with that awful roar, she couldn't even bear to imagine what would happen to her friends or herself! However, while this wouldn't have rectified that situation, she resolved herself to learn how to fight with as little assistance with her Quirk as possible. Her mind set, she went downstairs to speak with her mother.
"Mother," Yaoyorozu asked. "May I take more martial arts lessons?"
"That can be done, though I must ask. Is there something going on, Yaomomo? You don't look so happy..." Momo's mother commented, a bit concerned.
"I'm terribly sorry, Mother. The entire thing at the USJ had been getting to me. I felt so... powerless, when one of my classmates was in peril. And, in the event I cannot use my Quirk, I still want to be capable of defending myself and my friends," she said, a bit of fear painting her voice as she recalled the incident. Her mother nods in sympathy.
"There, there, my Yaomomo... I knew there was a good reason you went to ask me..." she hugged her daughter, who softly cried. "I just wanted to hear it from you. I know a few Karate practitioners, especially an instructor who teaches Shitō-ryū. I'll schedule them tomorrow for the next two weeks." Momo smiled as she looked up to her mother, herself bearing a warm smile.
"Thank you for the accommodation, Mother." With her schedule set, alternating between studying by the book and studying by the instructor, Momo began her own arduous training.
The first spar, of course, was a complete wash for the aspiring girl. Even when he allowed her to make a shield and bo, he was easily able to disarm her and knock her down.
"It is expected to meet failure on your first shot, Yaoyorozu, even with a Quirk as great as yours," the instructor, Denkiken, said, as Momo picked herself up slowly, the pain going through her like a web of hot wires. "And while two weeks worth of training usually isn't enough, I can see in your eye your potential. It actually reminds me of a kid I had, nearly ten years ago to this day. Seriously one of the best kids I've ever had, he completed basics within days, and within a week and a half, he had absorbed enough to actually defeat me in a spar! I think the kid's name was Son Goku..." He saw Momo's eyes go wide in surprise, as he grinned. "Oh, do you happen to know him?"
"Actually, yes. I'm in the same class as him, at UA's Hero Course," Momo replied. The instructor laughed loudly.
"It's indeed a small world, after all!" He says, before he calms himself. "Sorry, I got a bit carried away. I've also seen you've taken some bojutsu. That's a good starting point, you know some of the basics of fighting. However, you will be fighting me not with just your fists, but your mind, and most importantly, your instinct."
"Instinct?" Momo asked.
"Fighting without thinking about your motions. Right now, your stance is too firm. You are too sharp in your features, and that rigidity will allow an opponent, like Son Goku, to easily exploit your weak spots. In short, you're requiring yourself to think too hard about your moves. It's hard to teach instinct, because your body wants your brain to respond. Often, it'll be a thing that'll eventually come through experience, that'll come from sparring, that'll come with practice. Am I going too fast, Yaoyorozu?" He asked.
"This is the perfect pace for me, Denkiken-sensei," Momo replied happily, Denkiken smiling in return.
"I know you're spirited, girl, more than the vast majority of kids I had taught before I met Goku. Many of them thought that their Quirks would allow them to half-ass training, but at the end, they learned little. The smartest ones realize their Quirks will not always be effective in a fight, especially Heroes and Heroes aspirants such as you, for a smart Villain will know enough about their opponents to force them into an unfavorable position. We just need to get you to fight with your instincts, so let's go over the basics for our first few lessons. It will be painful, but your mother, and by extension, you, have enough confidence to continue in spite of it."
Over the next week and a half, Momo having been engrossed with the basics of Shitō-ryū, started to be taught a few of the cornerstones of the style, starting with rakka, the art of blocking through precision and power to destroy an attacker's motions, and ryūsui, or the art of flowing around an attacker's motions through soft blocking. To his surprise, his student had taken it like a fish to the waters, and while she isn't perfect with it, she's performing well with it. The next lesson is kusshin, or the art of storing energy from an attack to use in a counterattack. After that, ten'i, or the art of sidestepping attacks with utilization of the eight directions. Finally, the art of the counterattack, hangeki, was realized to the aspirant. With each spar, Momo had been able to get more hits on her instructor, and while she usually is defeated by him, especially when he occasionally switches to Tang Soo Do to mix her up, she had started to see the results. She wasn't focusing as hard as to what movement she wants. Instead, her body is doing that movement for her as she finds an exploitation in her sensei's defenses. On occasion, after school, she performs her kata routines, imagining her opponent, such as Denkiken or Goku, and applying her practice to refine her movement, sometimes feeling as if time itself had slowed down for her.
That fire within her soul burns brightly, as the final day of her training with her instructor commenced.
"Before we start tonight's final spar, I must commend how far you are willing to go. Despite the two week limit forcing me to adopt a rushed regiment to coincide with the Sports Festival, you had stepped up to the challenge and impressed me. I have no doubts about it, Yaoyorozu. You will go far in your Heroics." The instructor said, smiling.
"Thank you so much, Denkiken-sensei." Yaoyorozu said, bowing in thanks. He simply returns the bow.
"I also have a gift for you." He hands Momo a box. Curious, she opens it, and was shocked. It was a personal white gi with a large back patch including the hyaku kanji, complete with a black belt, each ends displaying a peach branch with peach blossoms, ending with a ripened peach at the end of it. The stencils were in shimmering pink-gold transitioning to a vibrant vermilion-like shade of red, without actually using vermilion dyes. It's a lovely color, but giving anybody anything with Mercury in its composition is just asking for trouble. "I also included a normal black belt, in case you weren't into peaches. Apologies, I had Momotarō on the mind when I was stenciling out your belt. Momo, Momotarō, a bit of a stretch. Took a while to find something similar to vermilion that isn't based within that disgusting Mercury."
"S-sensei..." Momo looked at the gi and the stenciled belt, she was now feeling like Midoriya right now, an overwhelmingly happy emotion bordering on tears. "Thank you for your gift, sensei!" With a smile, the sensei bowed.
Changed into the gi, the two finally initiate their bout. Using every technique that she was taught, Momo had dictated the flow of the match, able to land strikes against her instructor and using his own precise attacks against himself with kusshin. Ryūsui allowed her to weave through even his powerful attack rush, precise strikes allowing her to keep him on guard. Even with a hangeki, she utilizes rakka to minimize the pain to herself. It's not to say that the fight was easy, the instructor was doing everything he can to defeat her yet again. And while switching to Tang Soo Do did keep her guessing, she was able to reliably defend herself against the martial art. In the end, Momo had finally achieved victory, with a hard strike to his liver and a kick behind his kneecap finally making the instructor kneel. He coughed a bit, but he couldn't be any prouder as he grinned.
"You did it, Yaoyorozu!" He laughed, getting up. "You finally got a clean win on me!" Momo, on her end, was panting, yet she was smiling. "I don't fight like I used to, back in my prime, but being able to get away with a win is still worthy of celebration!"
"I... I guess I did...! Thank you, Sensei...!" she spoke out, with one final bow.
"And that's how you fight without a Quirk, Yaoyorozu. Yet, with your Creation Quirk, you would be able to do much more than I could ever do, so try to integrate your Quirk into your Shitō-ryū style and truly make it your own. Remember as well, in a real fight, deception can win battles, so do not be afraid to use your Quirk to give yourself an advantage. However, if you ever wanna break into some ol' fashion wushu or even some Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, feel free to have your mother call me!" The instructor said, Momo nodded in appreciation.
"Is it all done?" Momo's mother came out. Denkiken is smiling.
"She's ready, ma'am. Best of all, she's still the same as when I had met her: smart, sweet, humble, and calculating. You should be proud of her, Mrs. Yaoyorozu, because I certainly am! If your daughter ever needs more lessons, such as wushu, or Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, feel free to call me up." The mother smiled warmly.
"I'll keep that in mind. Have a good rest of your night and thank you for everything, Denkiken!" She waved goodbye. Then, she turns to face her daughter. "Are you ready for the Sports Festival, Yaomomo?"
"As ready as I'll ever be, Mother," Momo replied with a confident smile on her face.
AN: Welp, sit tight, folks. Next time will be the Sports Festival and all the details that seep out of that action-packed ish! As well, I will likely take more time between posting the parts of the Sports Festival. Mostly, I want to rewrite the Stain Encounter since it wouldn't make sense to slap Goku into the canon fight and call it done. Instead, I'll likely make it more about chasing the Flying Nomu down. It's likely Stain will still be a part of the chapter, though he won't be as essential as in Canon MHA. Also, Original the Character Time! And surprisingly, the Yaoyorozu Matriarch isn't that one, though I barely know her, so my interpretation can easily be Original the Character worthy.
Name: Unknown, Goes By Denkiken. Age: 63. Profession: Martial Arts Instructor, Shitō-ryū. Ranking: 7th Dan. Quirk: Quirkless. Not Related to the Kaminari Family.
Standing at a staggering 1.92m and weighing in at 102kg, Denkiken is a formidable martial artist instructor teaching the Shitō-ryū variation of Karate for the past 24 years. Dissatisfied with the amount of powerful Quirks popping out leeching out his customers, he became a recluse, taking up osake as a favorite pastime. While he had a few students, many of them were too arrogant for his liking, the vast majority having left his dojo upon being beaten by him and not accepting that Quirks aren't everything in a fight. However, there came a faithful day nearly a decade ago, when he had encountered Goku as an eager student. Having been burnt out from teaching the martial arts, Goku had helped reignite his passion. Seeing his pupil's diligence in his lessons and sparring with him, a long-dormant part of him was brought back. Switching out the osake for the arts and sewing gis for those he has respect towards, Denkiken dedicated himself to shake off the rust ignorance had built up over the years. Still far from being in his prime, Momo Yaoyorozu found out exactly why he's called Denkiken, or "The Electric Fist", as his Shitō-ryū was still fast enough it looked like he had multiple arms, all precise strikes to enable him to attack from any angle and punish any wayward attack towards him. At first skeptical on his newest student being a Hero high schooler with a Quirk that allows her to create anything, he was taken aback with her unwavering determination, willing to see her training to the very end, even disallowing herself to use her Quirk. Then he saw a fire within Momo that burned nearly the same as his old student, the same Goku that had stopped his self-destruction. By the end of their rushed training, she had earned his respect, as he expressed it by giving her a custom-made gi and belt.
