Alexia, Adelaide
The day after Feliks escaped, Alexia and Antonin left for the home in France. When they got there, Alexia began fixing the wards while Antonin made a call for her. It took her nearly three hours to finish fixing the wards that had been broken when Macnair had killed Richard. When she was finished, she made her way back inside to find her husband.
"Tell me about her," Alexia requested quietly. Antonin looked at her, and she grabbed his hand within her own. "I want to know because I love you, Antonin. There's still so much that I… don't know."
"I could say the same," he reminded her.
She shook her head. "So ask me something. I can't really think of anything I'd want to keep from you. If you don't want to tell me about her, that's fine, but I want you to know that you can tell me."
Antonin sat back in his seat and rubbed his thumb over her hand. "Her name was Alena Orlov before she married Anatoly."
Alexia blinked in surprise. "Anatoly was your father?"
"Yes, of course he was. I have told you that."
She knew she couldn't just say he was wrong, so she used their bond to show him the memory where he told her that Anatoly was his grandfather. It was at his graduation, and Antonin frowned darkly at her. "Let's… deal with that when we go back to work. Clearly, more has changed than we assumed. Keep telling me about her."
"She was the daughter of a diplomat," he continued. "She married my father when she was young- barely seventeen. I was born a year later, and she took me to the house where you found me. I was raised there for the first three years of my life until Anatoly came and found out that she taught me… I was different from the majority of our family. He killed her for it and took me home."
"And you didn't let him take her lessons from you," Alexia guessed softly. She reached up to cup his cheek with her hand. "I can see why you would want to keep her and that home a secret. I'm sorry if we… intruded. All I had was a distant feeling of a memory, but I was worried he'd done something horrible to you."
Antonin put his hand on hers and squeezed it lightly. "I had not returned to our home until yesterday. I should not have… I am sorry."
Alexia shook her head quickly. "No. You deserve to lose it sometimes, just as much as the rest of us. With everything going on, I can understand why you weren't exactly in a stable mindset."
His eyes softened. "And you are not, either."
Grimacing, Alexia shifted in her seat. "There's just a lot going on."
"You said you created a blood bond with an unborn child, Hermione," he reminded her. "What happened?"
Alexia sighed. "I don't really know. I got a panicked Patronus from Jamie. When I got home, Lily was… the baby was being unconceived. She was going to stop existing. Lily was in pain, screaming and… when I realized what was happening, I did the first thing I could think to do to help. My theory is, if I go on Multiverse trips, either Jamie or... you will take over the bond, since I'm so deeply bonded to you both. It's not a sophisticated bond, so I'm not too worried about it. I just couldn't let their baby…"
"It is something you can control," he told her softly. "So you did. Despite the initial danger, the bond was accepted."
"I wasn't too worried that she wouldn't accept the bond," she assured him. "We did a blood adoption, so I'm her aunt by blood. I knew it would work."
"You did not," he disagreed, though he wasn't criticizing her. "What do you want to do, Dorogaya?"
Alexia was quiet for a moment as she considered the question. After a bit of hesitation, she sighed. "I want to get in contact with… I need to find the Doctor and Rose. If anyone will know how to fix this, it's them. I can contact them today, and I assume it'll take a while for them to get here."
Though he didn't seem to like the idea, Antonin nodded. "I will pick up our guests while you do that."
After pecking his cheek, Alexia ran up the stairs to grab her ring, which she'd removed earlier while setting the wards. Putting it on, she tapped it twice and stepped through into a large living room that held Adelaide, Avery, and Ginny. "Hey! Need to borrow your phone."
"Lexi, what- hello, but what?"
Alexia spared a glance. Adelaide hadn't bothered to move. She sat on the couch with her legs spread out onto Avery's lap, and Ginny was behind Adelaide, braiding her hair. "Just need your phone."
"She's got blood on her," Ginny said with an eyeroll. "And I'm not even going to mention the fact that she looks exactly like you."
"Blood wards," Alexia said in explanation. "Took a long time to tie them into the Potter House and Dolohov House both, so it took quite a bit of blood. I didn't bother to change my clothes because we're in France right now. Really, Addy, this'll be quick and I'll get out of your hair."
Adelaide shrugged. "Feel free. Everything okay? You look… what's the word? Overwhelmed, but carefree?"
"Manic," Avery offered.
"I'm fine," Alexia called as she made her way to the phone in the hallway. She typed in the number she'd memorized and waited impatiently as the phone rang, tapping her foot.
"Hello? If this is Natalie Wood again, I told you, I don't have your dog."
Alexia let out a surprised laugh. "Doctor?"
There was a short pause. "Who is this?"
"It's Alexia, from that other universe. I need your help again, you and Rose."
"Okay…" he said slowly. "Where are you?"
"If you come to Adelaide's place when you have a chance, she can get you to me. Thank you!"
There was a click when he hung up the phone, and she put hers down as well. With that done, she made her way back into the living room and smiled at them. "You guys doing good?"
"Yeah," Adelaide shrugged. "Bored. You need anything?"
Alexia shook her head. "We've got some things going on that you don't want to get involved in right now. Stay bored and safe."
"Besides, we don't really need you getting in danger again," Avery reminded his friend. "I can't handle your brother giving me another lecture about keeping you safe, like I don't already stick to you constantly trying to do that."
Adelaide rolled her eyes. "I don't control my brother, Avery. Next time, hex him. It's what I'd do."
"If you don't recall, I fought with him. I know how good he is. I don't feel like fighting either of you, so I'd appreciate it if you stayed out of trouble. If you can't do that, at least don't let it get back to him."
Ginny snorted. "Man, even Snape's friends are scared of him. Maybe Neville was right to have him as his worst fear."
Alexia doubled over and grabbed her head. "It's happening again…"
"Lexi," Adelaide gasped. She got to her feet and reached out for Alexia as the woman's eyes squeezed shut and she stumbled back.
Alexia sat across from her parents and watched them quietly. They were reading over the scroll she'd handed them, and neither looked pleased.
"Dear, I'm not sure this is possible," Charlus told her hesitantly. "We've already told them-,"
"I'm not asking you guys to set up a contract with Lord and Lady Malfoy," she assured them. "I'm just requesting that you tell anyone that asks that I already have one, or that I've refused one. Keep me free to be with him."
"You understand the trouble he will be in for betraying his contract," Dorea frowned at her daughter. "Unless he can get Abraxas to agree, this will be very difficult for the both of you."
"Mum, I know, but…" she sighed and chewed on her bottom lip. "But he's right. I love him, and I can't imagine loving anyone else. We can make things better, damn what Dumbledore says. You know I can do this."
"We do, sweetheart," Dorea assured her. "I just want you to know what you're getting yourself into with this."
Alexia nodded. "I do. That's why Lucius gave me this to give to you. He said in absence of an actual contract-,"
"It will help," Charlus confirmed. "A bit. We'll do our best, but you should get back to school."
Alexia stumbled back and groaned, holding her head. "Fuck. I need to get home."
"What the hell was that?" Ginny asked sharply. Adelaide hurried over and grabbed Alexia to steady her.
"Nothing," Alexia said slowly. "Side-effect of my job. My husband can help. Addy, they'll be coming to get to me at some point. I just need you to use your ring to bring them to me."
Adelaide sighed. "When?"
"Probably not for a while. Just giving you a head's up in case I don't see you before then. Let us know if you need anything, but try not to need anything for a couple of days, because things are…"
"You're sure you don't need any help?"
Alexia shook her head slowly. The concern in her friend's voice had her pausing seriously. "No. There's nothing you can do. We have to handle this ourselves. It's a… a family matter."
OoOoOoOoOoOo
When Alexia got home, she made her way quickly to her room to change her clothes. She grabbed a sun dress she'd left there in the 70s, put it on, and took the stairs two at a time until she reached the sitting room. To her surprise, Antonin was already back with the BAU. "Oh, hey."
"Did you contact them?"
She nodded at her husband, who was in the middle of taking off his outer robes - apparently, they'd just gotten back. "I told Addy to let them over here when they get to her. And I… had another memory."
Antonin strode over to her and took her face in his hands. When their eyes met, he looked into her mind gently until he found the new memory. He cursed as he took a step back from her. "It is getting worse. Any longer there and you would have had another attack."
"Attack?" JJ interrupted them. "What happened? Are you okay?"
Alexia tried for a smile, but it just came out as a grimace. "It's difficult to explain. I've got someone coming that might be able to help us fix the cause of the attacks."
"And why are we here, Alexia?" Rossi asked her. "You both look fine. Has Macnair come back?"
"I wish it were that simple," she replied quietly. "I trust you guys. I trust my brother, Sirius, and the twins, but they know Death Eaters, and Feliks isn't a Death- wait, Antonin, he's not a-,"
"He is not," Antonin assured her. "He was never interested. He stalked witches and killed them instead."
"They probably thought he was a Death Eater," Alexia made a face. "You guys are here because… have I ever told you about Feliks?"
Spencer tilted his head at her. "You've mentioned his name, but never told us about him."
"He is my cousin," Antonin told them shortly. "My father's brother's son."
"That is… oddly specific," Morgan said.
Alexia nodded. "Because pureblood families can be… difficult. Saying Sirius is my cousin would be technically true, but it's a difficult line to follow. Antonin and Feliks are actually very closely related in terms of the pureblood wizarding world."
"Okay," Hotch looked at her. "What about him?"
She hesitated this time, and none of them missed how she tensed anxiously. "Yesterday, Feliks escaped."
JJ frowned. "He was in prison?"
"Of sorts," she said slowly. "We actually had him kept in Russia."
"What's the name of the wizarding prison in Russia?" Emily wondered. Alexia hesitated again.
"He wasn't in… a prison," she admitted. "He was in the basement of a house that belongs to the family."
The BAU looked different shades of pained and irritated.
"I know you're probably judging us for keeping him locked up, but he needed to be. Aside from that, we're being assisted by other countries to hold our more dangerous prisoners while Azkaban is being reformed slowly, floor by floor, but it's hell to get anyone convicted. Our minister and the head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement both were aware we were keeping him there, and it had his approval."
"Why were you keeping him there?" Emily asked them.
When Alexia hesitated again, Antonin spoke. "Some months ago, Feliks took Alexia with the intention to get her pregnant to produce the heir to our House. He stabbed her multiple times before I was able to get to her."
"I'm sorry," Rossi said honestly. "Are you alright?"
She waved him off, though they could tell she was still bothered. "It's been a while, and I've had more to worry about than him."
"Until yesterday," Spencer said. She nodded.
"Yesterday, I got to the house and… shit, this is complicated. The first thing you need to know is that things are all sorts of fucked up. Things are changing in impossible ways, and it's all out of our control."
Spencer looked at her. "Like your friend's husband?"
"Yeah, this is caused by the same problem," she confirmed. "So, when I got to the house, it looked like Feliks had escaped. The wards were down, and when I got down there, I saw Antonin injured and unconscious."
"He hadn't escaped?" Hotch asked.
"Not yet. I thought it was Antonin, but Feliks… damn, this is complicated. We've thought, for a while, that Feliks was my version of…"
"What?"
"Of my alternate self," Antonin said for her. "In other universes, including that of Mia Potter. In their universes, my alternate self hurt them very badly in differing ways."
Alexia spoke quickly before they could. "Yeah, but Antonin's different, and after talking to the others… Addy asked me. Why me? Why is mine so different? Why is he safe? I didn't question it at the time. We were still in school. Things with Antonin were… questionable. But after I came back to the future, I realized she was right. Why mine? And Antonin and I sealed our soul bond because Feliks went to the Chief Warlock with a valid and signed contract. I would've been forced to marry him and carry out the entire contract."
"Dolohov contracts are known to be brutal," Antonin explained. "If Hermione was found unable to carry out the contract - and she would have been - her magic would have been taken from her and returned to the House magic."
"That is to say, I'd have died," she translated. "We're lucky Antonin found his contract with me before we married or it would be… not good. The point is, Feliks tried to force me to marry him, and then he attempted to assault me in the DOM. That was when we were forcibly separated, but when he found me again, he tried to assault me again and stabbed me. It was a… bad day."
"He's a horrible person, sure, but that isn't exactly a case for us," Morgan told her. She just winced.
"Back to my point. We thought Feliks was my version of their Antonin. After he stabbed me… well, I wasn't exactly present for this since they were trying to make sure I didn't die, but-,"
"While Potter-,"
"Jamie," Alexia cut in.
"While he wanted Feliks killed, I knew he needed to be tested," Antonin continued. The agents looked alarmed, so he put his hand up. "Non-invasive. He did not feel a thing, and it did not harm him."
"That has to be illegal," JJ stared at them in surprise. "Somehow, that has to be illegal."
Alexia shook her head. "In absence of the space to imprison him, he would've been handed over to his Heads of House. That's Antonin and I- we're Lord and Lady Dolohov. It would've been under our discretion that he was punished. Honestly, he had it better than he had in Azkaban. Three meals a day, entertainment in the form of books and a radio, and a much larger room than a cell. Plus, you know… no Dementors, so he wouldn't have gone mad there."
Antonin raised an eyebrow. "He went mad years ago, Dorogaya."
"Well, it wouldn't have been our fault," she corrected herself. "But because of the issues we've been having magically, Feliks looked like Antonin. It only proved our theory that he is my version of Antonin. I got there, the wards were down, and he was injured. I healed him and he… I should've felt for our bond, but all I could feel was confusion. It made sense, considering he'd had a head injury."
"Feliks cursed himself to trick her," Antonin told them. "They went looking for him together."
Alexia shifted and tugged at her dress a little. "I had an emergency at home. After that, we went to look for him together. That's when Mia arrived. I have to thank Merlin that Regulus and Avery were emotionally stable enough to tell her to check on me, because he killed her."
"He- what?" Emily asked loudly. "You're glad she's dead?"
"What?" Alexia blinked in confusion. She could feel Antonin's amusement, and she shook her head quickly. "No! No, Mia can- she's got a bond sort of like mine. Sirius was able to use the Veil to bring her back. The reason I'm glad he killed her is because she was able to tell us what happened, who he was. I guess she antagonized him into killing her. I heard Reg lecturing her as they left."
Morgan stared at her in shock. "Is every version of you reckless enough that you need to be able to come back to life?"
"Most versions of me have been involved in a war that we've been forced into," she corrected stiffly. "Some of us are still there, and she doesn't have a way out like I do. When something happens, she'll…"
Antonin put his hand on hers and stroked it with his thumb as he spoke, allowing her to shake off her thoughts. "They found me after that. I was able to bring them to an apartment Feliks lived in with his wife. That was where we found the first body, and his message."
That had the agents straightening. Rossi sat forward a little. "Message? What message?"
"'Come find me,'" Alexia quoted quietly. "Her name was Jasmine Morris. My neurologist. I'd seen her hours earlier."
"There were two other identical scenes across muggle London. Another woman, Autumn Palmer, was a part of one of our oldest cases working together in 1978," Antonin told them.
"The last woman was Lila Roth," Alexia frowned at her hands. "She was Lily's cousin. Back then, when we were… Circe, we must've been sixteen, Lily asked me to hide Lila. Aside from Petunia, Lila was one of her last relatives. I never told anyone about it, not even my brother. Not Antonin, not anyone that knew my secrets."
"Which suggests that someone has been stalking you for a long time," Hotch understood.
Spencer frowned at her. "You said you didn't tell anyone, but is there a chance that someone used mind magic to learn all of this?"
Alexia shook her head immediately. "I'd have felt it. My shields, while not as strong as most, are strong enough that I'd have felt an invasion."
"To be clear, you are inviting us in on this?" Hotch asked. When the couple nodded, he looked to Antonin. "We're going to need everything you know about Feliks."
Antonin handed him a thick folder. At the questioning look he got, he nodded at it. "Everything I know of his life is in there. Written from my memory. Pictures of the crime scenes are in there as well."
"We have Feliks' apartment still taped off," Alexia told them. "So you can look there, if you want. The others were handled by muggle police before Gideon heard of it and took their evidence and Obliviated them. There's pictures and physical evidence, but the scene itself was taken apart by muggle cops."
"Great. Alexia, I'd like you to do a cognitive-,"
"No," she interrupted Hotch sharply. He raised an eyebrow at her, but she just stared back. "Look, last time… and now, my memory is even worse."
"I'll do it again," Spencer offered. "And we can go slow and stop if you need to."
"It may help," Antonin said reluctantly. "Try, but stop when you need."
Alexia sighed at her husband. "What will you do?"
"I will take you to the apartment," he told the agents. "But I would appreciate if some of you remain here with Hermione."
"Yes. Dave and JJ, stay here. I'll take Morgan and Prentiss with me."
It didn't take long to break apart. Alexia gave Rossi and JJ a copy of the notes Antonin had written to go over while she went to the kitchen with Spencer. Before sitting down, she made them tea and held it tightly as they started.
Once her eyes had closed and she seemed ready, Spencer began. "Think back to the first time you met him. Tell me about it."
Alexia breathed out slowly. "We didn't exactly meet. It wasn't long after I returned from the past. I knew I was a Dolohov somehow, but not the specifics. The war had just ended, and I wanted to go check on my family. I have family here, in France, but in Russia, too. I have an Aunt Tati and Uncle Kir - not married, siblings - and I came to make sure they were… alive. I brought Regulus with me because I'm not stupid enough to go out alone without telling anyone."
"What happened when you got there?"
"We went straight to Aunt Tati. I had to glamour my hair brown again. She was home, so we went in and she called Kir to get him over there, too. When he got there, we hugged, and he touched my back. I'd never ignited a Dolohov family bond with him before because the last time I'd actually seen him in person was before I came into my magic. It also requires intent from at least one party, and he definitely didn't want me to know. That time, though, I had already tapped into the Dolohov family, so we felt it.
"Kir kidnapped Reg and I and took us to the Dolohov family home. While I yelled at him, he called a family meeting with magic. That's when I first saw Feliks."
"Okay," Spencer nodded slowly. "What happened when he walked in? What was he doing?"
She was silent for a moment as she tried to remember. "He stood there. Just stood there, looking at me. Nikita and Silvestr hit me with a pinpoint curse and it hurt like a bitch. I started yelling again, and they made me put down my daggers."
"What did Feliks do when they cursed you?"
Again, she paused. "He… watched me. He sort of looked… surprised. I'd have to guess it's because he did have a contract made with me, and I was supposed to be dead."
"Did you interact at all that day?"
"No," she disagreed. "I didn't see him again until the day Antonin and I sealed our bond."
"Okay," he said slowly. "What happened when you saw him?"
"Antonin and I were already there. I was standing in his arms because I really wanted to curse them. Sara, our family magic, she was standing there, too. It was a show of power, telling them to back down. Once everyone was there, Antonin told them what Feliks had attempted to do, force me to marry him. I could feel how angry he was, how much he wanted to disown them all, curse Feliks for what he'd done. I wasn't the only one.
"Feliks said… he said, 'you will drive our House into the ground. For what? A witch?' But he watched me. He looked furious. If I hadn't been so pissed off myself, I might've paid more attention to him. I only knew he was Feliks because Antonin had said his name."
Spencer hummed. "Was that it?"
"He suggested the House had already fallen because, according to him, it has a Lady that wanted to curse them and a Lord that wanted to kill them."
"He was wrong."
"No," she said simply, startling him. She had her eyes closed, but she could feel his stare. "Spencer, pureblood society is an entirely different… it's complicated. Dark Houses like my own are known for doing things… differently. It's legal because our laws are shit, and believe me, Jamie and Sirius are trying to change that, but-,"
Alexia was cut off by the sound of a portal ripping open. She hadn't even managed to open her eyes before a memory hit her, and she cried out in pain.
Ash padded through the forest tiredly. The moon was at its highest, and her friends were playing, but she didn't have the energy. It had been mere days since she'd gotten her Dark Mark, and she was still in horrible pain and exhausted. Since they had their werewolf friend covered, she walked over to a tree and laid down at its trunk.
Just as she put her head on her paws and closed her eyes, she felt the leaves next to her crunch down. Opening her eyes, she saw Moony getting comfortable at her side. She could tell he was concerned. Remus certainly had been. He'd tried asking her what was wrong, what had happened, but every time, she'd make an excuse and leave the room.
As Ash and Moony, they didn't need to talk. She simply let him lay there, comforting her. It was a moment of peace at the beginning of what she knew would be just like the end of the war in 1998.
She didn't get to adjust before the memory swapped violently. This one was so painful that she let out a scream.
It was a warm day, and she found herself walking alone through London. She was tired of people crowding her, so she'd made an excuse to go shopping and left the wedding planning going on in Potter Manor.
Walking out of the Three Broomsticks and into muggle London, she pulled her jacket tighter around her. Her dagger was poking her thigh slightly, and she shifted her dress to adjust the holster.
The streets were packed, and she didn't waste time getting to the bookstore she wanted to go to. It was peaceful inside, and she waved at the owner. "How're you doing, Max?"
"Slow day," Max replied with a smile. "Plenty of time for chess, if you're up to it, Lexi."
Alexia smiled at him. "Next week. My brother's getting married this weekend. I shouldn't even be here now, really."
Max laughed. "Well, at least it's quiet here. Take all the time you need. Nothing new now, but we get a shipment in Saturday."
With a grateful nod, she set into perusing the shelves. She started in non-fiction biographies and moved over to the fantasy aisle. She took almost a half hour in the bookstore, just touching books gently and occasionally, reading their backs before putting them back.
As she left, she waved at Max again. "I'll bring coffee Tuesday and we can play."
"It's a date," he grinned.
The streets were just as chaotic, and she couldn't help but feel like she was being followed as she made her way back to the Three Broomsticks. Still, when she looked around, she saw no one.
After passing through the inn, she looked over her shoulders and made her way into Knockturn Alley, toward Mr. Mulpepper's Apothecary. Inside, she spoke to no one and only grabbed a few ingredients that she knew were illegal and wouldn't be sold aside from outside of the country. After it had been put into a Slug and Jigger's bag - which she didn't bother to question how they'd gotten - she left again. It was just as she turned the corner that she felt it.
"Stupefy!"
She dropped to the ground and could only stare as a man that looked far too like Dolohov came to smirk down at her. He pointed his wand down at her and-
Adelaide's hand on Alexia's shoulder pulled her abruptly from the memory. "Lexi, what the fuck?"
Alexia whimpered and held her head. "Fuck."
"Are you okay?" someone called from behind her. She didn't have the energy to look at them.
"No," she replied shortly. "It's getting worse. I'm not even in another… but a portal opened. I- I may be more sensitive to it because of the interview…"
Adelaide knelt down in front of her friend and grabbed her hand within her own. "Lexi, what's going on? How can I help you?"
Alexia shook herself and, slowly, managed to take in her surroundings again. Adelaide and Spencer were there, she knew, but Rossi and JJ had run in as well. Aside from them, she looked toward the portal as it closed and felt her eyes widen. "You're here."
"You called," Rose said, frowning in concern. "What's wrong with you?"
"Damn, I didn't think you'd come so quickly," she admitted quietly. "With time being such a bitch to figure out lately, I figured it would take a while… shit."
"Alexia, what was that?" JJ asked her. "You screamed. We thought you were being attacked."
"I was."
"By who?"
Alexia looked around at everybody before glancing to the man sitting across from her. "We're going to have to put this on pause, Spencer. I think I need to tell you guys what's going on."
OoOoOoOoOoOo
