The Basilisks Ouroboros
A rebounding green light Struck Lord Voldemort's chest and total darkness fell upon him. Harry Potter was his last fleeting thought as a wave of putrid hatred swept over him. The dark Lord's Red eyes looked down upon his chest as Vapour started pouring out of his chest and his lifeless pale body started to vanish into the darkness.
Suddenly, a Poisonous green light appeared from the darkness snaking its way towards the vapour. The blinding light began circling the smokey vapour that was Voldemort's fragment soul herding the whisps of dissipating smoke into a perfect sphere that began to condense.
A pair of vile red eyes appeared in the middle of the smoke sphere and Voldemort's disfigured face became apparent. He let out an ear-splitting screech of frustration and anger as he realised he had been killed by the boy who lived. Slowly the realization of where he was struck him as he raised his elongated boney hands before him and touched his face. He realized this was neither the world of the living nor the afterlife. Was he destined to remain in this state of limbo for eternity?
Voldemort looked at the Poisonous green light as it encircled him and noticed it had the form of a Basilisk. Gently the light started nudging Voldemort's soul remnant in the direction of a clutch of seven other small grey spherical clouds which were being tended to by a basilisk. Each orb was showing the ghostly remnants of the objects and the sacrifices Voldemort had used to make his Horcruxes.
Some of the captured individuals still laid upon the crucifixes Voldemort had used during the creation of the Horcruxes struggling to get free. The dark fragment of Voldemort's soul was visible coming out of the mouth of the person before making a figure of eight and latching onto the object or other living creature the Dark Lord used to conceal his soul. The Horcrux after all had been Voldemort's inspiration for the dark mark and his symbol of conquering death.
From within the other orbs the terrified eyes of Tom Riddle Senior, a muggle Tramp, Hepzibath Smit and an Albanian Peasant stared back in fear at the sphere that encapsulated Lord Voldemort. Unable to recognise him as the man who had murdered and defiled their souls many years ago.
However, Bertha Jorkins recognized the Dark Lord and started struggling against her restraints and screaming in a muffled rage. Suddenly, a large snake in the Orb Struck Bertha Jorkin on the Neck making her pass out from the pain. It dawned upon the Dark Lord that Nagini's soul was inside one of the cloudy Spheres as the giant snakes' consciousness had only recently entered this realm as she was slain by Gryffindor's sword during the battle of Hogwarts.
Nagini, What is this place asked Voldemort speaking in Parseltongue with the Giant Snake
"I am not sure master. The basilisk tells me we are in Limbo, neither living nor dead as we are being kept in this realm by the basilisks Ouroboros ability, we cannot move on from here into the afterlife unless one is whole and freed from their shackles" She said as Voldemort noticed a part of his fragmented soul was latched on the back of the Snake's head where she could not remove it.
Voldemort respectfully asked the Basilisk to explain the Ouroboros as this was magic he had never heard of ignoring the muffled whimpers and screams around him.
"Yes, Master replied the Basilisk. We Basilisks do not have souls as we were created by ungodly means by master Herpo. We acquire the souls of the living by looking directly at their souls and this allows us to enter into a victim's state of Limbo upon our demise, as we do not have a soul and are incomplete we can not proceed to the afterlife. We are reborn back into the world of the living when the egg of the Cockrel is laid upon by a toad that has bathed in The Draught of the Living Dead. I do not know the magic used as our memories disappear on reentering the land of the living but this is the Basilisks Ouroboros Cycle"
The poison green serpent explained further
"Currently, we are in your state of Limbo master as we are all linked by your soul. The girl I killed, her soul was connected to you and a Diary but her Spirit was never here. A few moments later after my arrival, I saw her soul attempt to move onto the afterlife but I prevented her soul from escaping Master."
"You have done very well" praised Voldemort, realising that the Basilisk was the only thing keeping his fragmented soul from vanishing all this time, if Harry Potter had not killed the Basilisk before he destroyed the diary the part of his soul it contained would have vanished.
Voldemort instantaneously deduced that there were indeed three components to life much like the muggle Christian preacher had told him as a young boy at Wool's Orphanage. A body, soul and a spirit.
The Souls that once Contained Myrtle and an Unknown Person were possibly the answers to leaving this limbo state. The Dark Lord realised Myrtles' spirit remained at Hogwarts as a ghost and was not an option for him to return back to life.
However, the mysterious soul was a mystery to him. As he looked in he realized this was nothing like the other Horcruxes. The Soul was intact and undamaged and within it, there was another complete soul. Staring back at him was non-other than the green-eyed boy who had moments ago defeated him in battle.
