Randy's physical therapy was going well. It had been two months. He didn't need the sling anymore and he could drive now but still had to take it easy. Lisa loved spending more time with him. Drusilla was in the cafeteria at work. She was sitting down looking at a bridal magazine. A woman she'd worked with sat down next to her. She looked up from her magazine.
"Hi Mary." She said.
"Hi." "Getting any ideas for your wedding?"
"Yeah."
"Is something wrong?" She asked sensing something was.
"Jordan wants a baby."
"You don't?"
"That's not it." "Just PTSD, I guess." "I love Jordan, I want a baby with him."
"But?"
"I loved Randy to and look what happened." "I thought we were going to be a family." "Now we co-parent." "We get along better now but my parents did the co-parenting thing and I swore I'd never do that if I had kids."
"Well with you and Randy it was different circumstances."
"I know." "I'm just scared."
"Do you take any precautions?"
"Sexual wise?"
"Yes."
"I'm on the pill."
"Good." "At least there can be no surprises."
Later that night Jordan had just gotten to Drusilla's house. He went into the kitchen where she was cooking dinner.
"Hi." He said.
"Hi." They kissed.
"I have some bad news."
"What?"
"You know that conference I have to go speak at?"
"Yeah."
"The dates were just confirmed." "It's the weekend of Lisa's birthday."
"That's ok." "We'll just celebrate a few days before you go."
"I feel bad."
"Don't." "It's fine."
A few days later Drusilla was at Randy's. They were finalizing Lisa's birthday plans while she napped.
"Ok so, the zoo then dinner." Drusilla said.
"She'll love that."
"Where did our baby girl go?"
"I don't know." "Time flies."
Flashback
Drusilla had been in labor for forty-seven hours. They'd decided not to find out the gender. She was finally delivering and very exhausted.
"You gotta push Dru." Randy said.
"I can't." "I'm so tired." She said completely drained.
"Yes you can." "Just one more time, that's all." She pushed. "It's a girl honey."
She smiled. "A baby girl."
