Sarah had been like this for hours, ever since they had brought her out of the mutated witch plague's sick dream. What Tally saw there when she had tried to pull her out of it-she knew that they'd need to talk about it someday. Just not today. Whenever Sarah was feeling up to it.
Raelle came in to check on the pair as Sarah was curled up on the bed facing away from Tally and Tally was sitting at her bedside behind her.
"How is she?" Raelle came to stand by Tally's side.
"Sad," and Tally was sad too.
"I can sit with her if you want to take a break, Tal?"
Tally nodded and felt it was the best thing to do, to clear her head and to wrap her mind around what she had seen inside Sarah's dream world. So, she stood and exchanged places with Raelle and took one last look at Sarah's back before she left to get something to eat.
So, Raelle sat and watched over Sarah, and she was there in case she decided she wanted to talk to someone about what had happened. Only Tally and Sarah knew what had happened in her dream world and Raelle wasn't about to pry.
One minute Raelle was wide awake and the next she was being shaken awake by Tally, "Rae, wake up! Where'd she go!?"
"Huh? What? Where'd who go?"
Tally pointed to the empty bed with disbelief and fear written all over her face, "I can't believe you fell asleep! You were supposed to be watching her so that this exactly wouldn't happen."
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to fall asleep, I didn't even feel tired."
"She must've used work to get you to sleep, I'll search for her," Tally closed her eyes and used her powers of sight to search for her and then she sighed in relief, "It's okay, I found her, she's out in the garden. I'll go handle it. You should go get some rest, Rae."
"Are you sure you don't want me to go with you?"
"I'm sure, I think we need to have a talk about what happened. We'll be okay."
Raelle stood and stretched, "Well, just far speech if you need help."
Tally nodded and ran out the bedroom door and down to the garden and sure enough there she was wrapped up in her bedsheet, her brunette hair framing her face, and the pale moonlight lighting her face in the darkness. And the sadness etched on her face ever since they brought her back was ever present.
Tally made her way to her, slowly as if not to scare a frightened deer, "Sarah?"
Sarah choked out a sob, "Don't say it like that."
"Like what?"
Sarah looked at her with such sad filled eyes, "Like her."
"It wasn't real."
"It was real to me!" Sarah yelled with all of her grief, "You are cruel, Tally Craven, to take something away from me again.
That hurt and Tally knew she deserved it, but she didn't regret anything she had done. So, she took a step closer and licked her lips to say, "What that witchplague did to you was cruel and I saw it. I understand how you could get lost in it forever. But Sarah…" Tally took another step closer and took Sarah's trembling hand in her own, "It wasn't real. But I am. I am real and I am right here in front of you," Tally placed her hand over her heart.
Sarah sobbed as she felt Tally's warmth radiate through the palm of her hand and through her whole being. She looked away from her in shame, "The memories are still here, like it was real."
"We could make new memories. I saw what you saw, and I think that I would like it too. If only you would give me a chance. The real me," Tally turned Sarah's face back to her own, "Despite our history, I kind of like you, Sarah Alder."
Sarah scoffed with tears in her eyes, "Just kind of?"
"Okay, maybe a lot, like A LOT. I may or may not have had a poster of you on my wall growing up and I may have told my mom once or twice that I was going to marry you someday. I guess my Knowing kicked in earlier than I thought," Tally joked as a blush spread across her whole face.
"Are you proposing to me, Tally Craven?"
"No! No. It's way too early for that. I'm just saying, maybe someday. If you want to."
Sarah wiped the tears from her face and smiled and brought the back of Tally's hand to her lips, "I want to, someday."
"But how about for now we start with a kiss?"
Sarah brushed hair behind her ear and leaned in, "A kiss? I can do that."
And so, they kissed to the promise of someday.
