Lukas' P.O.V.
Mornings. I hate them. Especially when a rooster decides to sing from the top of its lungs, somewhere in a neighbor's yard. Ugh... I get up from my bed and get changed into my short-sleeved, knee-long tunic and leather sandals. I kinda hate them, but since my other shoes went to hell, I must survive with them. I made sure my hair stays in place and headed out the door.

From the balcony I was on, I could see the inner garden. Beautiful flowerbeds were placed in circles. Especially rose bushes. They were Flavia's favorites. Water was splashing in a fountain that was situated in the middle. The two guard dogs were patrolling around the garden, making sure a burglar bunny didn't get in during the night.

Through another door — which also had access to the balcony on which I was — came a brown-haired little girl, Lucia. She had a tunic like mine, but longer, and the sleeves were also longer. Her sister, Valeria, joined her soon. I greeted them as I passed by, heading to the dining room. There, seated on a low sofa, was a handsome brown-haired boy, in a sleevless tunic. That was Marcus, Valeria and Lucia's older brother. He was swinging his bare feet in front of him. "Bonum mane", he said, "someone really loves the gifts from Somnus." By 'gifts' he means sleep.

"Mater, Marcus is mean!", called Lucia. A dark-haired woman, with brown eyes entered from the atrium. "Marcus, can't you behave not even in the morning?" Marcus looked at the floor. "Sorry, Mater". He may be 17, but sometimes he behaves like he's 7. His mother, Flavia, seemed to acknowledge my presence and said with a smile, "Bonum mane, Lukas." I responded with a small wave of my hand, "Bonum mane, Flavia". I do love being a cringe person, eh?

Marcus scooted over, making me room. I took off my sandals and hopped on the couch. I got used to eating while laying on the side.

Here is a thing you should know about me: I'm from the future. My parents were, or are, scientists. They were working on a time machine prototype. One day, I was helping them test it. Everything was fine, until the machine started making some weird sounds. It began buzzing and whirring. We ran for the emergency room, in order get shelter from whatever was going to happen. My parents managed to get to safety, but I tripped on a cable. The last thing I remembered, was a blinding light and then... blank. I woke up in the middle of a forest, knowing nothing about my surroundings. Marcus was out with his friends that day. Luckly, he was alone when he found me. He was staring at my clothes and wondering how the hell I got there. He took me to his house. Better said snuck me. He gave me a tunic and some sandals to wear. I hid my old clothes under his bed. Then he told his parents that I was an orphan from a northern village that was destroyed by the madman with elephants (presumably Hannibal). That was two years ago.

Oh, and if you're wondering how I understand and speak Latin, it's because my parents also invented a device which allows me to speak and understand all languages. The device came into the form of a pill. I can go to Greece and communicate with them with no problems for all I care.

Where were we? Oh, right. Breakfast with my somewhat adoptive family. Marcus' father, Octavius, came into the dining room dressed in a red toga. He is a local senator. "Bonum mane", he said as he took a place near his wife. A bunch of slaves came in with trays full of food: salted bread, milk, cheese, dried fruits, fresh fruits and eggs. I would kill for pancakes right now, but I can't go to the kitchen and make some. Because 1) I'm not a cook, so I'm not allowed in there, and 2) first rule of time travel: never interfere with the timeline or weird shit will happen. Rule which I already broke by telling Marcus about me being from the future. Surprisingly, he believed me.

"Hey, Lukas", Marcus was snapping his fingers in front of me. I came back from my thoughts and looked at him. "What?" He rolled his eyes. "I was asking if you wanted to go swimming later. It's gonna be hot today." Flavia raised a brow, "Later you have chores to do", she looked over at me, "both of you."

We both sighed.
