Chapter 10: - One Final Farewell
"Trap, activate! Spiritual Sealing Swords of Light! It negates the direct attack. However, as a cost, I pay two thousand Life Points," Yugi retaliated. A series of glowing yellow swords appeared in front of us and projected a blue dome around us. Meanwhile I looked at the boy seeing that his body was rapidly turning to smoke and my heart pounded loudly within my chest at how close Yugi was coming to losing this Duel, especially since it was so intensely dangerous.
Yugi – LP: 2800 – LP: 800
"I'm going to shove the three of you into the dimension of darkness! Wicked consciousness, converge! To lead the world into a glimmer-less despair! Descend forth now from the thicket of darkness! Crimson Nova Trinity the Dark Direction World Wicked God!" Dark Aigami revealed. This new, and no doubt more powerful and more dangerous, Monster appeared on the field causing my lips to curve into a frown upon seeing another twisted Monster being brought into play.
Crimson Nova Trinity the Dark Direction World Wicked God – Attribute: Dark, Type: Demon/Fusion, Level: 10, ATK/4500, DEF/3000
"An attack of four thousand and five hundred Attack Points!" Yugi exclaimed. That Monster was as powerful as Blue-Eyes Ultimate, it would be able to obliterate nearly all of us with a single attack if none of our Monsters or other cards were capable of blocking the assault, we had to find a way to get rid of it and fast.
"A sacrifice is needed for a Wicked God's offense. That being your Life Points!" Dark Aigami revealed. Then several beams of red light that shot forth from Crimson Nova Trinity and they slammed into us sending the three of us flying backwards from the impact as our Life Points were reduced once again, this only added to the pain we currently endured and the fading of our bodies.
Katherine – LP: 5000 – LP: 2500
Seto – LP: 2000 – LP: 1000
Yugi – LP: 800 – LP: 400
"Now Yugi! Take upon you the iron blow of the Wicked God!" Dark Aigami declared. However, Seto wasn't having any of that as he activated his Trap, Krystal Avatar which allowed him to summon out a Trap monster whose attack was equal to his Life Points once the opponent declared a direct attack with a monster that had Attack Points equal or greater than his Life Points, but it also made that monster the new target of the attack.
Krystal Avatar – Attribute: Light, Type: Warrior, Level: 4, ATK/0, DEF/0
Krystal Avatar – ATK/0 – ATK/1000
"Seto don't!" I cried. However, the cocky CEO only gave me a smirk as the attack was diverted with Yugi pointing out that Seto wasn't going to make it through the attack, Seto revealed that once destroyed Diva would take Krystal Avatar's attack as damage. The Trap monster was shattered into pieces and those pieces flew about with some of them landing near Seto sending up a small cloud of which dispersed quite quickly as Yugi demanded to know why he diverted the attack.
Seto – LP: 1000 – LP: 0
"Him. Yugi, take this," Seto insisted. He held out the Millennium Puzzle which Yugi gingerly accepted and then my old friend collapsed onto his knees as the shadows were eating away at his body at a rapid pace. "Call him. Call…," Seto pleaded. And with those as his final words he proceeded to be engulfed by the shadows.
"Kaiba-kun!/Seto!" Me and Yugi cried. Tears stung the corners of my eyes as my magic began to swirl and rage, causing my hair to fly up as silver-gold lines coursed across my skin; I vaguely heard that demon speaking but I wasn't interested in hearing anything that he had to say after the atrocities he had just committed, the only thing I wanted right now was to Make. Him. Pay. I was going to ensure that he suffered for daring to bring such harm upon the innocent people of this world simply because he was too blind or deaf to search for the truth.
I looked at Yugi only to see the Millennium Puzzle hanging from him as if it had never been snatched from this world, I almost expected Atem to take over at this point but that was foolish thinking on my part. We exchanged a nod and returned our focus to the duel waiting for whatever move it was that this demon intended to make when I noticed that as per Krystal Avatar's effect, the demon's Life Points had been dropped.
Dark Diva – LP: 5000 – LP: 4000
"That move cost Seto his Life, we can't let it go to waste," I noted. Krystal Avatar's effect had given us a slight advantage by lowering the demon's Life Points, it would seem that my words had inadvertently angered the demon as he proceeded to have his Crimson Nova Trinity to activate a Special Effect it had.
"I send Clear Kuriboh to the Graveyard, negating any Effect Damage I take!" Yugi declared. The little ball of fluff appeared before us and absorbed the Special Effect saving what remained of our Life Points. Thanks to Seto's last move, Aigami's Life Points had been lowered enough and if I could get either my Primordial Gods or Kylie's Guardians out onto the field then we'd be able to win this Duel.
"You just don't know when to quit do you? But, by destroying your Monster, I can attack once more!" Dark Aigami mocked. That only meant one thing as those red beams appeared again slamming the two of us back once more as our Life Points were depleted again, silence reigned over us no doubt meaning everyone was too weak to yell out the usual stuff. "Soon. Both of you along with this world will all be engulfed by the darkness. By a glimmer-less despairing darkness!" Dark Diva ranted.
Katherine – LP: 2500 – LP: 1250
Yugi – LP: 400 – LP: 200
"Now be gone, Yugi!" Dark Aigami commanded. His Monster proceeded to attack Yugi directly and with no cards out to stop him, there was nothing I could do to help him, but Yugi managed to push himself up enough to activate Clear Kuriboh's second effect. By removing it from play both of us were allowed to draw a card and if that card was a monster, then we could summon it however before he could… Yugi collapsed.
"Yugi! No!" I cried. I ran over and caught the boy as he rested in my arms, the toll of a Shadow Game after so long must have exhausted him greatly thus rendering him unable to fight. "Yugi, please wake up! Please Yugi I need your help, I need you to come around! I can't do this alone! Please Yugi, wake up!" I pleaded. Tears burned tracks down my cheeks and splattered onto the young boy's face, but he made no motion or movement in response to my words.
"You're all alone Katherine Hope. There is no help for you now, soon you'll be joining everyone in darkness and despair!" Dark Diva cackled. With my sorrow, anger began to swirl and my magic pulsed in tune with my emotions, I snapped my head to the monster and rose to my feet after carefully setting Yugi onto the floor but my magic felt frail and weak almost as if the power was being sucked away from it.
"I won't give up," I seethed. I lifted my head to look at the person who was causing so much trouble this time around as I allowed my hand to rest on my Duel Disk feeling the combined strength of both my own Monsters and the ones who had previous been with Kylie. "I never give up! That was my promise to Kylie! The vow I gave that connects me and Kylie! Even though she's gone! Our promise remains!" I declared. My feelings burned brightly as I declared those words, feeling completely resolved to stop this horrible creature.
At my words a bright silver-gold light began to burn from my bracelet and the Millennium Gauntlet in unison, the light was so overwhelmingly bright that it seemed to almost burn into my eyes and the monstrous being in front of me squealed. It actually squealed like a struck pig as the light rolled over him like a tidal wave, I looked at the glowing light and tried to stare through it in order to see what was happening through the light to my accessories.
The light seemed to respond to my intentions and parted slightly allowing me to see through and a stunned gasp escaped from me at the sight I saw. The Millennium Gauntlet was cracking apart, pieces broke off but instead of falling onto the ground it instead seemed to be pulled up towards the bracelet and the pieces seemed to be absorbed into the bracelet. This caused sparks of gold to begin coursing across the object's surface.
Soon enough the light died down completely and I saw that the Millennium Gauntlet had completely vanished and instead the Astral Bracelet's drawings were made of gold now instead of inscribed into the silver surface. Startled by the event I moved forward and pulled the bracelet off and flipped it over, finding that the crossed swords and sceptres that had been there before was gone; instead now it had the eye of the Millennium Items inscribed there but it didn't feel like a Millennium Item.
"What… happened?" I wondered. Horakhty had stated she made the Millennium Gauntlet and the Astral Bracelet already had her powers, so they came from the same source but how had they managed to merge together; as I tried to come up with an answer – thankfully Aigami was stunned as well – something lifted the bracelet from my grasp. "Ah! No! Give that back!" I yelled. I swiped my hand forward but missed as whatever was had taken the bracelet almost seemed to clamp it on an area to my right.
The moment the bracelet was secured on thin air, a line of silver-gold light shot out, crawling over the air which seemed to craft a silhouette out of the light before a flash radiated from the person giving colour and three dimensions to the figure. I gaped at the person who was a woman, with long red hair and green eyes that seemed to be outlined in kohl, heightening the appearance; she wore a long silver gown with jewellery made of silver and gold locked around her neck and head. The woman then took my Duel Disk from my arm and turned around to walk behind me.
Before anyone could make another move a burst of golden light flared up behind me as warmth flooded the empty world with that single flash, my throat constricted as I swiftly turn around. All of my fears were dashed to pieces as hope rose to life within me, seeing the sight behind me as the sound of two cards being pulled from a Deck echoed around me like the clap of thunder.
"I-Impossible! The Pharaoh and his Consort!" Dark Aigami exclaimed. Hearing the words from the demon confirmed the sight before my eyes, I watched in silence as the two figures set the cards on their Duel Disks and two figures appeared in front of me, knelt down before the duo. They swiftly turned around and jumped passed me, but I managed to see enough to know that the Monsters resembled Mahado and Mana, the loyal Magicians easily destroyed the fiend. Ending this Duel thus saving our dimension from the Prana's corrupted power whilst setting Aigami free of the Ring's malevolent control.
Dark Aigami- LP: 4000 – LP: 0
The cube that had been the source of the destruction began to crack and then exploded raining down on the world thus bringing back everything that had been destroyed by the Prana's power including Seto causing me to smile brightly as turned to look at the two who had provided such a miraculous event, Kylie and Atem.
"You two…" I commented. I could say no more as I smiled brightly whilst shaking my head, they truly were the most incredible team I'd ever met, suddenly footsteps echoed causing me to look over, only for me to be pulled into a very fierce and passionate kiss by Yugi who I noted was lacking his Puzzle before closing my eyes to savour the embrace of the one I loved the most.
"Normally I'd make a smart comment but after everything I guess I'll let this slide," Kylie admitted. Laughter came from before us before it fell silent quite quickly, I pulled apart from Yugi and stared passed Yugi who was staring at me confused as I moved around Yugi, smiling slightly at the people before me causing Yugi to turn around and he looked at the two who had managed to come back to save us when we needed it the most.
"You actually came back, Seto's going to be going I told you so for months," I stated. Atem's lips quirked into a smile upon hearing those words, whilst Kylie let out a barely stifled laugh, I looked down at the object that was secured around Kylie's wrist. "I'm… afraid the Gauntlet was kind of absorbed by the bracelet, so you'll have to take both if you want it back," I explained. Kylie looked down at it.
With a smile curling on her lips, Kylie walked towards me and crouched down, she then lifted her right arm and easily pried the bracelet free of the limb before lifting up my own right arm with her left hand. My sister then proceeded to clamp the bracelet back around my right wrist before lifting her green eyes to pierce into my own.
"It belongs to you Katherine, I'm not taking it away," Kylie stated. I looked at Kylie and smiled lightly at her words, my sister then rose to her feet and began to walk backwards until she was beside Atem allowing the two of them to link hands; me and Yugi ended up copying them, Yugi nodded his head and Atem lifted his hand to the eye piece of the Puzzle and pressed it, this caused the item to vanish and then both Atem and Kylie followed in the same fashion.
"Well, I made a mistake, the Prana was much too great to be wielded by people. But perhaps the people of this world do not need magic to make a world of peace come true," Kebi spoke. Her form appeared before us and I noticed she was staring at me no doubt causing both of us to wonder what she had seen that neither of us had."Yugi and Katherine, now I shall bid you all goodbye until we meet again, on the other side," Kebi finished. With a bow from the priestess, she proceeded to disappear into thin air just as everyone woke up.
Naturally the normal audience were deeply confused about what had just happened whilst Jounouchi, Anzu, Honda, Bakura and Mokuba made their way up onto the platform as Seto gathered with them around us waiting for an explanation as to what happened which we gave to them, even including what happened to the bracelet; Jounouchi then claimed he had seen both of them as well… perhaps they'd helped him escape the dimension that Aigami had imprisoned him in.
"I see, seems as though he did come here, didn't he, Yugi?" Seto admitted. I huffed a sigh at those words whilst also rolling my eyes since it was Seto's way of saying I told you so, although Yugi did concede that the CEO had been right about his belief. "I have to wonder about that. Farewell, Yugi. You, too, have been a proud Duelist," Seto admitted. He turned around and walked away a little.
"I knew he'd say I told you so and by the way, I told you so, love. You and Atem need no words for each other," I commented. Yugi smiled at that however I then noticed a certain cube resting behind us a bit, so I moved over to it and picked the object up confirming it was indeed the cube that Aigami had carried with him and nearly caused the destruction of our dimension, it still radiated magical energy no doubt still being capable of cutting through the planes of existence so I pocketed the object.
"Katherine," Seto called. I turned to face the CEO who came to stand alongside me gazing out across the stadium, I waited for him to speak whatever just have been on his mind. "I didn't reconstruct the Puzzle just to face the Pharaoh, I also wanted you to see Kylie again. Her leaving with Atem hurt you the last time it happened, so why aren't you in tears or worse, a hospital, right now?" Seto wondered.
"Because… this time… I feel like there's closure. Last time was… to quick, too jumbled for me to find any peace in it but now I have. I'll see both of them again one day but until that time… I've got lot to live for here with me now," I acknowledged. I turned around to look at Yugi who was being messed with by the others, Seto looked at me confused before looking between me and Yugi for a few seconds before he left out a small hump and smiled at the information I'd given him.
"And here I thought that kiss was a one time thing. Strangely enough though, you two do make a good couple," Seto admitted. A smile cracked across my face as laughter escaped from me at the words that Seto had just spoken, I turned to look at my loved one. "But if he hurts you, I'll obliterate him personally," Seto stated. I turned to look at the man who was staring down at me, I lifted up the cube that Aigami had used causing Seto's eyes to widen.
"It's still capable of moving to other dimensions, might even reach the afterlife," I commented. Seto nodded his head in understanding, with a smile I reached my hand holding the mysterious cube out and dropped it into Seto's hand causing him to look at it before looking at me; with that I walked back to my friends and family leaving Seto to his own desires with that cube.
*Yu-Gi-Oh*
Once more it seemed as if time was speeding passed us for only a few short days later, everyone was graduating from Domino High with Yugi gave his heartfelt speech perfectly; there were indeed a few tears, but the majority came from Jounouchi and Honda which was something they got teased about later on.
From what I'd heard Aigami and Sera had returned to Egypt stumbling upon the Ishtar-Elony family by accident and the former Tomb Keepers understanding the children's plight took them in so that they would no longer be forced to live a hard and difficult life. Yet, at the same time they would also remain within the world of mysticism that they had been raised in, hopefully they'd find their utopia within this dimension someday.
All of us saw Anzu off to America for her dancing school with the girl giving me a tight hug – which got a gentle response in the form of a light hug from me – before she boarded the plane, we waved goodbye even as the plane rose into the sky and jetted off for its' destination; once it disappeared all of us proceeded to return to our homes.
"Ah, Katherine. I need you to do something for me," Yugi suddenly exclaimed. I looked at the boy and found we had stopped by a bench within a park. "Could you sit there for me and wait for the people to show up. You need to tell them something important. You'll know what to say," Yugi insisted. I looked at the boy baffled by his strange words, so I shrugged my shoulders and proceeded to sit on the park bench that Yugi had indicated and the boy took off away from me.
I proceeded to pull out a book on magic that I had with me, I had started to learn about more types of magic from the time we left the Memory World, it had kind of intrigued me and so Mum and Dad contacted anyone that they could whilst Rhodonite and Azurite sent me what books and scroll they had. As I waited, I felt a small pulse rush over me and I smiled slightly whilst swiftly dropping my right hand down so that the bracelet would be hidden away.
"About time you two showed up," I commented. I quickly clamped the book close and proceeded to lower it which allowed me to look up at the people in front of me, both who were staring at me in shock, but one of them recovered faster than the other and happily cried out my name; it was Yugi and Atem and I knew this had to be the vision that Yugi referred to in the Memory World. "The vision of the Millennium Tauk connected with my magic and that's why we can talk like this, if you're wondering. First things first, look over there," I insisted. I pointed in a direction, causing Atem and Yugi to look in the same direction and I saw their eyes widened when they saw a clock displaying the time and date, the date being two years from their current time. "Yugi, you need to remember that date and tell me when it comes around, so that I can be here to pass on this message," I explained. The younger Yugi nodded his head and both of them proceeded to turn back to look at me. "First thing; yes, I know what is happening to you right now and I can tell you right now, I will be fine. It'll take a while, but I will wake up. Second thing; get me my Duel Disk, I won't go into detail but I'm in the middle of a fight and I could do with that thing on my wrist," I insisted. I didn't need to remember what had happened to me during the time I'd lost to Other Marik, but the message had to be passed on
"Ok Katherine-chan," Yugi agreed. He seemed completely relieved that I would be waking up at some point and I could even see that the weight of my condition was sliding off of Atem's chest as that bit of information but I knew he still felt deeply responsible for the past me's current condition, so I quickly turned my gaze to him and stared at him with a hard look in my eyes, it was no doubt so similar to Kylie's own customary gaze that Atem was shocked by it.
"A-Yami," I began to speak. However quickly shut myself down, I knew that I couldn't reveal his name to him yet, but at least the vision was going as planned. "Don't you dare blame yourself for what happened! That was my choice and my fault! Neither you, Kylie, Seto or Jounouchi are to blame for what happened! Me and me alone! Ok," I insisted. I kept my gaze steady and firm on Atem, this ended up leaving the Pharaoh with no choice but to accept those words and he nodded his head to show that he understood them.
"I understand Katherine, but…," Atem wondered. I knew that he would catch onto the near slipup I made regarding his real name, I mentally damned myself for the slip up but it was really hard given that I'd been forced to swap names and had two years of referring to him by his true name instead of the five months of referring to him by Kylie's name for him. "What were you about to call me?" Atem asked. I smiled, a coy and teasing smile like Kylie would wear, before tapping the left side of my nose to imply I wasn't saying anything, when the clock began to chime loudly drawing all of our attention to it.
"Time to go, just promise me one thing you two. Don't ever give up," I requested. I knew this had to be the point that I made them promise me that, an agreement came from the both of them and with that the two people from the past disappeared and I felt arms come to wrap around me. "Thank you, for keeping your promise Yugi," I admitted. I was truly relieved that they had kept the promise and Yugi was still keeping that promise.
"Of course Katherine, always," Yugi stated. We linked our hands and began to walk away, yet as I move forward with Yugi, I felt a surge of magic as dimensions were ripped through implying Seto had left our world to visit the man who had changed all of our lives.
