Ocean of Freedom
Chapter Two-
Windmill Village
When young Violet opened her eyes when waking she was surprised. There were two reasons for that, one was that whatever had trapped her she was pretty sure was aiming to kill her so the fact that she woke up at all amazed her, and the other was the strange red-haired man who was up much too close to her face for comfort with his crazy man smile.
Acting on instinct she slammed her head forward, head butting the man who staggered backward holding his now bloodied face looking stunned at that fact.
'That kid has a head of steel!'
"SHANKS!" Violet was quickly reintroduced to the ground when she realized that she was being held up by a dark-haired boy who looked to be around her age. He had dropped her like she was a hot potato and ran over the red-haired man, Shanks.
Violet then took a quick moment to look around, taking a guess it looked like one of those bars or taverns from her uncle's old movies. Though much cleaner. She was surrounded by adults, from what she was able to see there was one lady who had pretty dark green hair and a variety of men looking at the scene before them.
The bar was silent as the people were watching what was going on. Then she heard the lady that was bar begin to giggle, after that some of the men started to snicker. Soon the whole village was filled with laughter from the tavern.
Now, Shanks finally got his nose to stop bleeding, slowly he walked up to her and sat down so he could be at the same eye level as her.
Violet couldn't help but stiffen as he approached, unknown to her it was an action that was noticed by most in the bar.
"Sorry about that little miss. Didn't mean to scare you like that. I was just checking to make sure you didn't have any serious injuries that needed to be addressed" the man Shanks explained to her before motioning to the boy who looking at her with an upset expression with his arms crossed. "Especially with how Luffy here had dragged you in here."
"HEY! She's fine anyway!" the boy protested now clearly embarrassed.
While Violet was unsure if there was any relation between the two, she couldn't help the ache in her chest. They were so close that much was clear to the misplaced girl.
With a clap of his hands, Violet was brought back to the present as she looked at the red-haired man again.
"Now time for some serious business Little Miss. What's your name and how old are you?" Shanks asked her. "Though I could keep calling you little miss."
Violet couldn't help the snort that escaped her mouth at his afterthought. There was just something so inviting about this man like he was easy to trust despite common sense telling her not to trust someone you just met.
"No Thank you. I'm Violet Potter and I'm six years old. It's nice to meet you" Violet said.
Briefly, most of the men in the bar froze almost as if they were in shock about something before just as quickly going back to normal.
Violet thought little of it, after all, adults can be strange sometimes, maybe they knew another Violet.
"Likewise Violet, now where are you from? I'm sure your parents are looking for you." shanks said.
Violet couldn't help the downcast expression go over her face.
"I don't have any," Violet told the man. While not completely the truth if they found her dad high chance she would just be sent right back to her Aunt's home.
"Well since you don't want to tell I take it you have your reasons for it," Shanks said as he patted her on the head. "Not the first time I've seen someone not want to return home."
"I do have my reasons!" Violet declared with a stump of her foot, his understanding tone making a bubble in her pop. "My stupid dad liked my twin brother better because I reminded him of mum too much, so he dropped me off at my Aunts like I was trash. I thought it was temporary. But it's been two years and I haven't seen him since. I don't know what I'll do but anything is better than being in places where I'm clearly not wanted."
Violet felt rage boil over her, she had no idea why she just exploded like that. Normally she was able to keep everything in a box but something about what Shanks had said to her just made her angry. While she felt bad at yelling at the man who was just expressing how he wasn't going to push her to answer his questions, it also felt rather nice as she felt like she had a weight she didn't know she was carrying taken off her shoulders.
"Don't worry about Violet-chan, I believe you," Shanks said to her. "Your situation isn't a stranger in my line of work."
At that Violet was curious about what kind of work would lead Shanks to run into kids who would be orphaned than go back to any family they had.
"What kind of work is that?" she asked.
Instead of getting an answer from Shanks, it was Luffy who answered in his stead by yelling, "Shanks is the best pirate in the whole world."
Author's note- sorry about the short chapter I want to catch up to where our lovely TheBlackSeaReaper had left us off at while also adding my own spin to things.
With Violet sorry if she seems strange, in the last bit I was going for her lashing out partly at shanks that with everything going on father abandoning her at her aunts, being abused there, then the nearly murder attempt from chapter one she just popped.
Hopefully, I'll manage to flesh out her character some more in the next few chapters so hang with me some.
On a side note I have a poll up on my profile so check that out so I can figure out when to send Violet back to HP (temporarily of course)
Lastly thank you to everyone who gave me another chance, more is to come. Follow, Favorite, review any suggestions. I love being given ideas and request. Suggestions for pairings are also welcomed
