Chapter 3

Windmill Village

Violet stared at the black-haired kid before she looked at Shanks with a confused look. "No, He can't be a pirate."

"Yes, he is!" Luffy shouted furious at the girl for insulting his favorite person.

"No, he isn't"

"Yes, he is"

"No, He isn't"

While the two children were arguing about the validity of Shanks being a pirate, the adults were laughing at Shanks for the captain being slighted by a child once again.

"Violet, What do you think makes a pirate a pirate?" a man with long black hair, smoking a smelly cigarette and carrying what was definetely a rifle over his shoulder interrupted being the first to calm down enough to ask. This was Benn Beckman, Shank's first mate.

Violet paused in her argument with Luffy, who was still busy puffing and huffing, for a moment to think about her answer.

"Well, from what I've seen in books Pirates are mean looking, ugly, dity, smelly, they never take baths, stupid beards, attacking innocent people, always drunk, never leaves his ship and -" Violet listed off before Benn held his hand up to stop her from continuing.

"Okay, we get it. We are sorry to disappoint you. But we are nothing like though we do have a captain who is almost always drunk." Benn said as he pointed towards Shanks and skillfully ignored his shout of denial of the fact.

"Okay then so you guys are a good pirate?" Violet asked.

"Not exactly, but we don't hold interest in mean things like attacking innocent people. We pretty much do what we want. Travel around, get treasure, on occasion help some people out under our own rules." Benn explained.

"That's cool I guess" Violet replied, looking like she had some clarity but still confused about some of what the older man had explained to her.

"But even if Captain and his crew are nice, you should still be wary of pirates, there are some that are just like you first thought. That are some good and some bad." Makino pipped up while hoping to avoid another child (Luffy) wanting to be a pirate. Nothing wrong but having children declaring their desire to technically become criminals would potentially cause issues with any marines stopping by.

"Well we've waited long enough. Now that we know Violet is okay we need to get going. We got a lead on a map so we need to head out" Shanks said with a clap of his hands. "Lets get going, Makino we should be back in about a week."

"Safe travels Captain" Makino called out to the man as the pirates vacated her bar a small frown adorning her face.

"Bye Shanks!" the two children called to the man waving bye to the retreating backs of the crew, with their captain turning long enough to return the favor.

Violet looked at the backs of the pirates as they walked down the path to their ship, while they were a nice bunch so far. It had seem like that them leaving was rushed almost like none of them had expected to be leaving.

Violet just shrugged her shoulders might just be an adult thing, best to see what she could do to make sure she never has to go back to her aunt.

Later that night Violet found herself in Makino's home with Luffy holding her arms out as Makino had fitted some of her old things that she had laying around to fit Violet. So current Violet was smiling as she was in a simple green shirt with a pair of blue shorts and some sandals that were just slightly too big but would do for Violet just fine. Makino had also mentioned that it would give her room to grow into them.

Maikno had more or less appointed herself her pseudo guardian since she was being tight-lipped about where she came from. They can send her back if they don't know where to go.

"There you go, Violet all done. Why don't you and Luffy go play for a bit, while I close up the bar and get our dinner ready." Makino said as she finished up the last stitch to fix the clothing for her.

Violet couldn't help but smile, it felt nice to have clothes that actually fit, she hoped that they never found where her Aunt Lived. She wanted to stay here for as long as she can.

"Thank you miss Makino." Violet said as she hopped off the stoll that she was standing on just as Luffy bega dragging her off while Makino chuckled. Something that Violet couldn't help herself, it was just something about Luffy that made her feel safe, which was odd consistering she met him only today.

"Come on Violet i got to show you something it's really cool!" Luffy shouted as he grabbed her arm and began to pull her to the out parts of the town, heading towards one of the many windmills.

"Luffy, calm down!" Violet said as she struggled to keep up with him, Luffy slowed down some just enough for Violet not to be tripping over her feet.

Eventually they got to one of the windmills and Luffy had let go of her hand and open the door to the windmill.

"Come one Violet the view from up here is great." Luffy insisted as he entered the windmill motioning for her to follow.

Violet after some internal debate followed after Luffy.

They didn't talk on the way up. They stopped at the top where Violet was shown an ammazing view of the village with the sun setting. Violet was gobsmacked with how beautiful the village looked from that distance.

"I overheard Maikino talking to Woodslap saying you were in a bad place before. So i figured i'd show you my favorite spot to make you feel better" Luffy said.

"Thanks Luffy the village looks realdly pretty from here." Violet smiled.

"I"M GOING TO BE KING OF THE PIRATES" Luffy suddenly shout out towards the village

Violet flitched at the sudden loudness from Luffy before felt confused. King of the pirates that made no sense to her.

"King of the pirate? What's that Luffy?"

"King of the pirates is the person who sails across the whole of the grandline and the freest people in the world. Not to mention there's suppose to be an amazing treasure at the end." Luffy explained with a grin.

Freest person in the world, that sounded nice. Plus Shanks and his crew were nice. Maybe being a pirate wouldn't be all that bad.

"I don't know about being a pirate but being the freest person in the world sounds awesome." Violet said as she looked towards the open sea as Luffy decided that enough time had passed and decided it was time to check if Makino had finished dinner

Violet looked out the window of the room that Makino had set her and Luffy up in beside her own above the bar. She didn't know what was up with her. She just felt so trusting about Luffy. Maybe it was because he was an open book, Luffy wore his feelings on his sleeve. Not to mention it was like there was some kind of force that just drew her to luffy it was strange and honestly it was scary.

Despite not knowing luffy long she felt like she could trust him, as proven when she promised to be his first mate.

Violet smiled as she fell asleep.

'I hope i never go back my Aunt's I love it here.'

Author's note- well heres another chapter hope you enjoy this. There's gonna be a few more chapters of childhood before the start of the journey. Got some exciting stuff coming up real soon
