Three days after the previous chapter

Dr. Fate continued walking through one of the hallways of his tower. Upon reaching a certain wall, he bashed his fists together, revealing an Osiris symbol, which he proceeded to levitate through, revealing a new room. To most, this room, if you could even call it that as it was massive, would be very perplexing and odd, but Dr. Fate was not bothered by such things. In this new "area" Fate has entered, there were multiple staircases that didn't really lead anywhere. Some of them went up whereas others went down. The room had a lighter shaded purple hue, and a large, gray platform in the center where Dr. Fate had teleported onto. Closing the Osiris symbol behind him, Fate concentrated on making another, which the one and only Dark Knight would enter through it.

"Welcome Batman."

"Thank you Doctor. How is Shayera?"

"After you had informed me of her predicament I met her on a rooftop. She was hesitant to follow me but eventually she accepted my offer; however, not by her own volition. Now, she's confined herself to her quarters, depressed. She feels like a traitor and someone who is deserving of hate. Would you like to see her?"

"No. I'm going to leave her in the dark as to which one of her friends is looking out for her."

"I see. If the matter at hand is concluded for now I must be getting back to my work."

"Yes Doctor, it is. Thank you for your generosity."

"No need for thanks, Batman. This is part of my job, my purpose."

A grunt was all the response Batman gave. Turning his back to the man clad in purple and gold, he walked into a new portal Fate had created. Once through, it disappeared leaving Batman standing on a gargoyle of one of the many buildings in Gotham. However, he knew this one well as it was the same one he had recently run into Shayera on. Going back to the memory he remembered the night well. Believe it or not, that was completely coincidental. Batman had no intention of meeting Shayera that night.

"Alfred I'm going on patrol."

"I must protest sir. You haven't eaten dinner or lunch for that matter and you hardly touched your breakfast. In addition to all that, you haven't slept in twenty-eight hours!"

"Crime doesn't sleep Alfred."

"And it appears that you don't either, sir."

Rolling his eyes under his cowl at the Butler, Batman headed to the Batmobile; however, an exasperated sigh turned his attention back to Alfred.

"If you insist on going out patrolling tonight Master Bruce, I demand that you return at the latest of 12:30 AM."

"Alfred-"

"When your parents died, I promised I would look after you and raise you as if you were my own child. I will not fail them and I will be damned if I sit here and watch you destroy yourself. I have no intention of outliving the last Wayne."

As Alfred finished his sentence he pulled a handkerchief out from his neatly kept suit and brushed the bottom of his eyes.

"Don't worry Alfred I'll be back here before you know it."

"Very well Master Bruce."

After patting Alfred on the shoulder, Batman leaped into the Batmobile and zoomed out of the cave, heading into Gotham City. Upon reaching an alley, he flicked a switch in the car, which opened one of the walls that surrounded the alleyway. Parking the car, he stealthy exited it and grappled onto a nearby fire escape. Tapping a button on his wrist, the wall shut, deceiving the public into believing it was just an ordinary wall. Batman proceeded to climb to the top of the fire escape, which brought him to a roof. Walking to the opposite corner, Batman directed his grapple to a nearby structure that towered both the road and the building he was standing on. Being yanked up to a ledge of the rooftop he started all his patrols at, Batman quietly pulled himself up and walked forward while remaining in the shadows. He then saw a silhouette of a woman with...wings? gracefully descending from the sky and touch down on the head of one of the gargoyles. He continued to watch as she stared into nothingness. He was completely taken by surprise that she was here but quickly recollected himself and snapped out of his thoughts just in time for her to say:

"Master Wayne are you there?"

"--huh? A-Alfred yes I'm here go on?"

"I just wanted to inform you that I've prepared dinner and it's beginning to get cold. Please to not subject me to reheating my culinary masterpiece in the primitive device commonly known as a 'microwave.'"

"I'll be right over Alfred."

"Really!" *throat clearing* "I meant: Excellent news, I will see you shortly."

"Alright, Batman out."
