Batman groaned as he woke up. Expecting to be blinded by the bright sun, he only opened his eyes a bit. However, much to his surprise the room was still dark. Batman shifted onto his elbows, propping himself up a bit to look around more to get an idea of where he was. It only took him a few seconds to realize where he was and when he did, the events from last night came flooding in. He looked to his chest and saw a tube sneaking through it.

Great, a collapsed lung. Whatever, it won't stop me from doing my job. Pulling out a small device that was attached to the medical bed,Barman read his status regarding the fluids in his lungs. It's not too bad. Because Alfred was so quick to inserting this tube, all the foreign particles were kept out. However, I can't take it out yet. Maybe in a few hours but not now.

Batman transferred the tube into a smaller suctioning device that he attached to his suit. He would still have to fight crime after all. He then slowly got off the table and dragged his feet over to Shayera's holding cell. He was still sore but he wouldn't let anyone know of his physical impairments. Pressing a button on the wall, the glass wall of the cell disappeared, allowing Batman to reach Shayera. When he laid a hand on her shoulder, her eyes bolted open and she quickly leaped to her feet. Due to her Thanagarian physiology, many of her injuries had healed already; however, she still wasn't completely repaired.

I really hope she doesn't go feral again. Batman thought these words to himself as he crouched into a defensive position. Much to his relief, Shayera dropped her attack stance and placed a hand on her head.

"Wh-where am...I?"

"You're in the Batcave Shayera."

"What happened? I don't remember anything! Why am I covered in casts? Why isn't my mace with me? Why am I filthy? And why is there blood everywhere?"

"Well-"

"Also why are you limping and why do you have a tube through your chest?"

"I was getting-"

"Did I do that? I thought I was dreaming! Are you-mmpfff"

Shahera was cut off as Batman placed his hand on her mouth and looked her dead in the eyes.

"I have answers to all of your questions. All you have to do is listen." Batman removed his hand from her mouth before continuing. "You were kidnapped my Joker and held in Arkham. I had to come and save you by going through many villains and their minions. After I had successfully done so, I brought you here where Alfred and I treated your wounds. You woke up in the middle of that and went feral because you're wings were broken. We were able to restrain you, but you got a big shot on my rips and broke a few, which led to me having a collapsed lung now."

Shayera's eyes fell to the floor and she bit her lower lip in frustration. Batman, being as sentimental as he is, helpfully stood there and watched her awkwardly.

"Bruce, I-I'm so sorry...You saved my life and I return the favor by smashing your ribs! This is all my fault."

"It's alright. You weren't in control."

"No! That's the problem! I was in control. It's just that on Thanagar, if your wings are damaged you are basically done for. I acted in complete panic and hurt someone I care about...again!"

"That's not exactly 'in control'. You acted on instinct not will."

"Still. My instinct got you hurt."

"It's not my first timegetting injured. I'll be fine."

Bruce and Shayera hadn't heard a pair of neatly kept shoes clicking against the stone stairs that led from the Manor to the Cave. As a result, Shayera jumped a little when he turned the corner, and inwardly Batman did get startled but didn't let it show.

"Ah Master Bruce. I see you aren't lying down resting. Not even a collapsed lung will be enough to tell you to take a break hmm. Well anyway, I've prepared Shayera's room as I figured she would be staying for some time."

"Yes, she will be."

"What? No! I'm not going to stay here-"

"Do you have somewhere better to be?"

"No but-"

"Then come with me to your room."

Alfred watched the two go back and forth and was inwardly chuckling. He was amused by their exchange. He continued to watch as Shayera reluctantly followed Bruce to the stairs. She attempted to begin climbing up them, but Bruce and snuck behind her and picked her up.

"HEY! Put me down!"

"If it's all the same to you, I would prefer if I didn't have to fix anymore broken bones for you."

Shayera's face was about as red as her hair at this point. Batman had thrown her over his shoulder because the stairs were not wide enough to carry someone bridal style and also because he figured that the current position would be best for her wings. Once they reached the top and were out of sight, Alfred shook his head and began chuckling, this time out loud.

"We reached the top of the stairs so you can put me down now."

"No. There's more stairs and halls."

"You have broken ribs. Shouldn't you abstain from heavy lifting?"

"I am. You weigh practically nothing compared to my armor."

"I don't know wether to feel complimented or insulted."

"Maybe both. We're here by the way."

Batman placed both his hands on Shayera's waist and gently picked her off of him and placed her on the floor.

"Thanks I guess." She said rolling her eyes.

Wanting to get a bit of distance from Bruce as they were extremely close, Shayera turned around and walked forward, but her face hit something soft and leathery. She opened her eyes to see Batman's hand in front of her face, shielding her from the door.

"I wouldn't want to fix a broken nose."

"you are insufferable..."

"Allow me to open the door, watch out for the walls though, they might jump you."

"Ha-Ha" Shayera said as Batman reached around her and swung the door open revealing a massive room relative to what Shayera had seen. Her eyes widened and her jaw dropped to the floor.

"Yes it's quite a sight. This is one of the larger guest rooms. I think you will be quite comfortable here."

"B-Bruce! You don't have to do this for me..."

"But I can. So I will."

"Why!?"

This caught Batman a bit off guard. Why doesn't she want to stay here? He wondered to himself. Maybe it's because she doesn't like to appear weak...?

sigh* "why are you doing this. Coming to save my lifewhile risking your own, fixing me up like a doctor, still tolerating me after I destroyed your ribs with my mace, and now you are letting me stay with you? Bruce, I almost got you killed...twice!"

"That's in the past. I've forgiven you for it and I no longer hold it against you. You did what you had to do for your own people and I did the same."

"I don't know what to say..."

"Then don't say anything. There's nothing to discuss. You are going to stay here because you are not physically capable to be anywhere else. But before you get comfortable, you need to shower. You smell like blood, dust, and sweat and apart from the spots where Alfred and I cleaned, you are a mess."

"Wow, you really have a way with words, especially with the ladies..." Shayera said as she rolled her eyes and crossed her arms for dramatic effect.

Batman shot a look at her before moving to the closet and grabbing a towel from inside of it. He proceeded to hand it to Shayera, who took it in her hand but then looked up at Bruce.

"So...what am I going to wear? These clothes are shredded."

"Yes I'm aware. I made a suit for you a while back. It will have to suffice for this occasion."

"So you've been thinking of me. You're so sentimental."

"I see you are as sarcastic as ever."

"It's what I do."

"Maybe you should replace your sarcasm with a shower" Batman said as he pinched his nose and waved his other hand in front of his face.

"You are insufferable" Shayera groaned for the second time before turning on her heel to head for the bathroom."

"And what does that make you, I wonder?" Batman mumbled.

"I HEARD THAT."

"I was hoping you would!"

"Ughhh" Shayera groaned as she slammed the bathroom door shut.

Batman smirked before exiting the room and heading back down to the Batcave to retrieve the new HawkGirl's suit.
