Just like any morning in one of the many small towns in Arcadia. the residents made their way about- tending to any business they had for the day, a peaceful life for most who lived in the area… however this is not a story about those kind folks- not for the most part at least.
this is a tale of the brave, the broken, and the ones just trying to get by….so why pick Timberfalls you may be asking my wonderful reader?
Because every good story needs a jumping off point….

Timberfalls, Arcadia
Riverside diner
the Lakatoa River had served the town since it had been built, being a major part of the logging operations that built half the towns on the Ottawa side of the national forest, the shore was a popular spot for the locals to fish and have a bite to eat…that's what spurred Catherine Hancock to purchase a spot of land on the riverside in 1978…
the Diner had become a big part of Timberfalls- serving the many woodland workers who came in at ungodly hours to get just one more cup of caffeinated goodness to keep them going through the day…Cathy was beloved by many of the folks who donned that Green and tan uniform day in and day out-
the bell above the door made its telltale *ding* as a patron walked in, a younger Canine, Grey fur with specks of white in it, radio on the left side of his breast, and the all too familiar Ranger hat-
David looked at the woman running the counter for the day
"morning ma'am…..Miss Cathy in today?" his voice was somewhat gruff for his age, but not unpleasant to listen too, a gentle smile marked his face as he sat down
Miranda stared the Canine down, she had known David since they were both too short to see over the counter. Most folks called her Dolly due to the way she spoke…among other things.
"no, she's enjoying a day off, and what have I told you bout calling me maam…."
the canines smirk grew, he had teased this woman to no end since they were children, and he had no intention to stop.
"to not do it-" he chuckled "figured id stop by for some coffee, Quincy's got me running all over the damn woods checking Lines….reckon its due to the storm coming from up north-"
the Bobcat sat the coffee cup down on the counter in front of David, pouring the steaming hot liquid caffeine into it
"I heard about that, business is probably going to slow down a bit….but I figure we'll do alright-"
the two continued to catch up…no matter how long they were apart, they jumped back into their regular routine like it was second nature, some folks say David was sweet on the woman, seeming to always stick around even after he'd paid his tab…others just saw two good friends who enjoyed each other's company-
in any case, David and Miranda were a special pair…. who seemed to always find their way back to one another, no matter how far life pulls them apart.
minutes turned to an hour, David sitting at the bar…listening to Miranda talk about what ever crazy happening befell the Hancock family, and he took in every word-
she never paid much mind to it…he'd always been a good listener as long as she had known him….the though did linger in the back of her mind somedays however…but that can wait till another time.
