I do not own Harry Potter, only the OC
Hello guys, Badger here. Hope you are all well. I am glad people enjoyed the first chapter. Now, I wasn't supposed to post the second chapter this soon. I planned to post the first chapter for another story; a Sherlock Holmes vs Jack the Ripper story, but it's currently going through a few rewrites. If you're interested, it's called Trail of a Killer, so keep an eye out for it.
Now, a few people have gave their guesses on who Harry's 'mother' is, but neither got it right. One guessed it was either Death or Nagini, but that's not even close. The other guessed it was James Badgers mother, but again, not close, as she is dead; again read A different Hogwarts experience for more backstory on the James as a character.
That is all for now, read on enjoy and I will see you at the end.
Chapter 2
Dumbledore paced back and forth in his office. Something he had been doing a lot, since he visited Harry at Wool's Orphanage. His familiar, Fawkes, watched him move back and forth. The Phoenix was feeling quite annoyed with his masters pacing. However, Dumbledore ignored the trills of annoyance coming from his familiar. He was too concerned about Harry. The boy had admitted that he could speak Parseltongue. That was worrying. Parseltongue was dark magic, commonly used by Dark Lords like Herpo the Foul and even Voldemort himself. However, Parseltongue wasn't something that could be taught. It was hereditary and, as far as Dumbledore knew, the Potters had no relation or family ties with Salazar Slytherin. So, if Harry is indeed a Parselmouth, Voldemort must have accidentally passed on some of his abilities to Harry when he gave him that scar.
Another cause for concern, was the Dursleys. After leaving the Orphanage, Dumbledore went to 4 Privet Drive, but found it empty. No furniture, photos or anything. In fact, the place looked like it had not been lived in for years. The Dursleys must have moved house after leaving Harry at the Orphanage, possibly out of fear of being found. So far, Dumbledore had not been able to find out where they went. He needed to find out where they went, but he couldn't do that with Quirrell still in the school. Poor Quirrell. The man may have been able to fool the other staff, and students, but Dumbledore was no fool. The Headmaster knew that Quirrell was a follower of the Dark Lord. This would prove a good test for Harry. Hagrid had been able to extract the Philosopher's Stone from Gringotts and it was now being guarded inside the castle. As the Philosophers Stone granted infinite riches and immortality, Voldemort would want to get his hands on it. Dumbledore would need to leave hints for Harry, but hopefully, should Harry go to stop Quirrell, then Dumbledore knows he is going down the right path. It will also allow Dumbledore to see how strong Harry is and how much training he will need. All in good time.
…
The Great Hall was quiet, with only a few murmurs of conversation, due to there being only a few, early rising, students eating breakfast. Most of them being Ravenclaws. Harry sat with James, spinning a Sickle Coin on the table, as he calmly ate his breakfast, a thoughtful look on his face.
"I know that look" James spoke up, pushing his empty plate away "You're scheming aren't you?"
"Of course" Harry replied, voice slow, turning his attention to the spinning coin "I wasn't exaggerating when I said I was disappointed with the students in Slytherin House, I just hope they will learn their lesson, without me having to cause any…permanent damage…"
"What about the other houses?" James asked, as he grabbed a slice of toast from a nearby rack
"I'll worry about them, when we have sorted out our current issue" Harry replied, before giving James a knowing look "Don't worry, if any of the Slytherins give us any trouble, I'll let you handle them"
James smiled at that, an insane gleam in his eyes. Harry couldn't help but chuckle at his friends, before they were joined in Blaise, Pansy and Arianna.
"Hi Harry" Blaise said
"Hello you three" Harry greeted, smoothly "I see I haven't frightened you three off"
"Impressed us, if we are being honest" Pansy spoke up "I mean, we were a bit scared at first, but considering we spent an entire train ride with you and you didn't try to hurt us, you can't be that bad"
"Well, I'll thank you for that compliment" Harry said, a small smirk on his face
"So, you two know each other?" Arianna asked, gesturing between Harry and James
"Yeah, we have known each other since we were eight" James replied, before looking at Harry "Or were we seven?"
Harry shrugged, before turning back to his breakfast, a thoughtful look on his face.
"Can I just ask, what was the deal with the Slytherin Common Room?" Blaise asked
"I'm afraid I can't tell you, just yet" Harry replied "Again, I hope you understand, but I need to know if I can trust you"
Harry had no doubt that he could, one day trust the three, just as much as he trusted James, but one always had to be careful with friends and who they trusted. James Potter and Lily Potter were the perfect example of this. They had a friend they thought they could trust with their life, and look what happened to them. Betrayed by that same friend, and were murdered by Voldemort.
…
Quirrell sat at the professors table, watching Harry Potter. He could feel his masters anger. The boy was the very reason why his master was now weak and powerless. Unicorn Blood could only work for so long. His master needed a body and Quirrell believes he knows how. Dumbledore had the Philosophers Stone brought into Hogwarts. Something Quirrell thought to be nothing but a legend. Dumbledore had asked some of his staff to provide some kind of defence to guard the Stone, to keep it safe. Quirrell was going to need to find a way to steal the Stone and provide his master with a new body. After that, his master will kill the Potter boy and continue his terror across Wizarding Britain. His master had even promised Quirrell that he could rule whatever country he wanted. Quirrell thought France or Germany would be a good place to rule. All in good time. First, he needed the Stone.
…
After breakfast, Harry and his friends made their way to their first lesson. Transfiguration with the Gryffindors. As they made their way down, a lanky red headed boy ran after them, calling Harry's name. Harry closed his eyes, trying to stop a headache that was starting to pound in his head. He stopped, just outside the Transfiguration classroom and turned on his heel, to face the boy.
"Can I help you?" He asked smoothly
"Yeah mate, I'm Ron, Ron Weasley" the boy said "I don't know why the Sorting Hat put you in Slytherin but you should get yourself resorted and put into Gryffindor…Slytherin is full of junior Death Eaters and Pureblood Supremacists…they're evil, you don't want to mix yourself with them lot"
As Ron spoke, he glared at the others. Blaise and Pansy were furious, Arianna was about to protest, whilst James looked bored. A sentiment shared by Harry. He closed his eyes once more, to calm himself. Mother had taught him proper etiquette, but this boy was testing his patience. And Harry had little patience to begin with. After a moment, he opened his eyes and gave Ron a cold look.
"A House doesn't define someone" He said "I admit, Slytherin doesn't have the best reputation but that doesn't make the students here evil…besides, my friends are all Purebloods, whilst I am a Halfblood, and I have not seen any of this Pureblood Supremacy…good day"
Harry turned back on his heel and walked into the classroom, with his friends alongside him, leaving a furious Ron behind. Inside the classroom, a lone cat was sitting on the desk, watching every student that entered with a critical eye. As the last student sat down at their desk, the cat jumped off of the desk, turning into Professor McGonagall mid jump. Harry rolled his eyes slightly, amused at the woman's over dramatic entrance.
"Welcome to Transfiguration" She said, as she paced back and forth across the classroom, floating a matchstick onto each desk, in front of every student "A very complex form of magic, but very useful in any situation…as Transfiguration is a very difficult subject to master, you shall be starting simple this year…this lesson you will be turning a matchstick into a needle…the incantation is Par Acus you will be marked on pronunciation and result of your incantation…get started, I will walk around the class and see how you are doing"
All across the classroom, students were waving their wands across their matchsticks, hoping to turn it into a needle, with varying degrees of success. Harry lazily waved his wand over the matchstick a few times, making sure to say the incantation, where it turned into a perfect needle.
"Well done, Mr Potter" McGonagall smiled, having seen the whole thing "I see you have inherited your fathers natural ability In Transfiguration, take 15 points to Slytherin"
Harry smiled softly at McGonagall, who gave him a small nod as she walked off. McGonagall had been worried about leaving Harry at the Dursleys and was furious when she had found out that the Dursleys had sent him to an Orphanage. However, seeing him now, she could breathe easy. Whilst she was slightly disappointed that he wasn't in Gryffindor, she was at least happy the son of her two favourite was in Hogwarts.
…
Draco Malfoy glared at Harry across the classroom. He was still furious with what the boy did in the Common Room, last night. He wasn't sure what the pathetic Halfblood was trying to do, but he didn't like it. Something needed to be done. Those two Prefects may not have been able to do so, but he wasn't going to allow a filthy Halfblood taint Slytherins noble house. Malfoy wasn't sure how, but he planned to lock Harry up somewhere and put him in his place.
…
After lessons were were over for the day, Harry entered the Potions classroom, where Snape sat at his desk. The Potions Professor had asked to see Harry. Snape watched Harry sit down, moving elegantly, almost gliding across the floor and sat down on the chair in front of his desk.
"Good evening Mr Potter" Snape said "You are probably wondering why I called you here"
"Yes sir, I'm not in trouble am I?" Harry asked, faking a worried look
"No Mr Potter, you aren't in trouble" Snape replied "I merely wished to speak to you and…see how you were settling in…you see…I used to be friends with your mother when we were students"
"Really?" Harry asked, tilting his head to one side
"Yes, we became friends before we started Hogwarts" Snape said sadly "However, as we were in different Houses it was difficult to keep that friendship and one day I yelled at her, when she was just trying to help me, I said some unkind things and we didn't speak again after that…I just wanted you to know, I'm here should you need help with anything"
"Thank you sir" Harry smiled "I'm also settling in rather well and my friends are helping me too"
"Well, good to hear…you may go now" Snape replied
Harry nodded and slowly left the room. As he closed the door behind him, Harry had to stop himself from laughing. Mother was right about him. He didn't seem all that special, or powerful, but Mother had always told him to never underestimate anyone and besides, Snape could prove useful. He would have to wait and see. If the man was a burden, then he could probably let Mother kill him…after letting James torture him a little. Taking a coin out of his pocket, Harry began flicking it up and down in the air, as he walked down the corridor, thinking about what to do.
…
Snape leant back in his seat, as he thought about what he saw. If he was being honest, he was worried. Being up close to Harry, he could see an insane gleam in his eyes. But what worried him, was that he had seen that same look once before…he still had nightmares about that person, at times and their laugh sometimes rang in his ears. He rubbed a hand against his face , thinking about what he should do next.
…
That night, Harry leant against the windowsill of the owlery, overlooking the letter in his hands. He thought it would be a good idea to send a letter to Mother, just so she knew how things were looking;
Hello Mother,
I apologise for the informality of my letter, but I believed it wasn't necessary. I thought you would like to know how things are looking here.
I'm afraid I am disappointed. You were right. Slytherin House has definitely lost the nobility it once had. As soon as I entered the Common Room, two people tried charging in and intimidating me like a typical Gryffindor. Don't worry, I'm fine. The two of them received shattered knees, so I was very restrained today. Lucky for them.
I'm afraid this has made my mission more difficult. I need to put the fools in their place, and I hope to do it without causing any unnecessary damage, but it's too early to tell. And I know James is just itching to torture someone, you shouldn't have taught him those spells. However, there are a few people who I believe I can trust. Hopefully the fools are sorted out and then I will be able to scout out the other Houses.
That is all I will say for now. I shall write to you again soon, with updates on my progress.
Love you, always,
Harry
Happy with the letter, Harry placed it inside an envelope and wrote the address on it. Hedwig, seeing this flew off of her perch and landed in front of him, holding out her leg. Harry smiled at the intelligence of his owl and tied it to her leg, where she immediately flew off into the night. Harry stared up, at the stars, spinning a coin on the windowsill, thinking about Mother. In a way, he was lucky. She didn't have to take him in, but she did. Hopefully he'll see her again soon.
…
And done, what did you guys think.
Again, I tried to do a longer chapter. It may not be as long as the previous one, but I still tried to make it a longer one.
Now a few of you, may have noticed that Harry often fiddles with a coin. He has done so a few times in this chapter and the previous one. I wanted to make it his thing. You know how Two-Face from Batman uses a coin, think of it as a similar thing here. Now, if any of you want to see a few more darker moments, I do have a few things planned but aren't sure when they will happen just yet. Remember, leave your theory as to who Harry's 'mother' is. We still have a few chapters to go before we see her, so I'd love to see your responses.
That is all for now, I hope you enjoyed and I will see you next time.
