Jack left the things and with a heavy heart he walked to his car, looking back at the house with a longing he had not felt in a long time. His son was in there. Ianto… Ianto was in there. Jack then looked at the huge Bentley and saw a problem he should have seen before now, walking back to knock politely as he pulled out his phone to call one of his men.
Ianto opened the door with his hair messy and his PJ top already halfway buttoned up, his chest hair so lusciously peeking out. "Jack?"
Jack realized he had been staring at him and grinned "Sorry. Uh, I just saw that you don't have a car. How are you getting around?"
"Uber"
Jack rolled his eyes then handed out the keys "Here. I have someone coming to pick me up, this is just one of the carpool ones. There is a fuel card in the glove box and the pin is my birth date. I know you will remember that, you always did."
"Of course." Ianto accepted the keys and stared at them, the key ring was one he had gifted Jack as a joke once. A little plastic bowl of stew. I know… corny right? Just a car pool car my arse "I never thought about a car but… thanks. I guess there are a few things I will have to consider while we are here."
"He can't come. He can't find you. He has a criminal record, he can't get a passport" Jack reassured Ianto, his hands rising as if to grab his arms and then correcting himself to claps his hands together, "It's going to be OK. Do what you have to, take your time. The main thing now is to let them settle."
Ianto watched the car slide in beside the other one, Jack waving as he got in the back to be driven away and then he closed the door to stare at the wooden barrier to the outside world with a weird feeling.
God, he had looked good skipping down those steps like he was a teenager still.
Bastard.
.
.
Ianto heard the pounding and struggled from the bedding with a soft curse of annoyance, getting to the main room in time to see Rhiannon flinging open the door with her usual morning glee.
"What the fuck do you want!" she demanded in a dull tone that told Ianto she knew who she was speaking to and as Ianto came around the doorframe he saw with genuine horror that Mother Harkness stood on the doorstep with wide eyes flicking about as she turned to see Ianto in the house.
Ianto did not even think about it as he body-slammed her back and stepped outside, pulling the door shut behind him to lean against. Now he was the main barrier to the outside world and he would die before he left that bitch in.
"What are you doing here!" she demanded mere moments before he could.
Huh?
Ianto looked at the car and saw hers parked beside it, matching sleek monsters. He looked at her and knew why she was acting like that "Jack is not here. He came and left the car for me to use, he is trying to be a good man."
"MY son is a good man, you wouldn't know anything about that" she sneered.
"Really? How did you know he was here at all?" Ianto asked.
"Low-jacked!" she pointed over her shoulder "I have all my children's cars tracker marked so I know where they are at all times. They are my loves you know and with my dear husband gone they are all I have now."
Ianto was horrified beyond words. She tracked them, knew the common term and… did Franklin know this? Had she tracked him too? Did Jack know this? Did Rose? Jesus, really? Ianto nodded and the door opened making Ianto stagger back as his sister reached out, grabbing his scruff to yank him in and slam the door in her face.
Ianto told her to make sure the kids stay in the bedroom until she is gone, then he rang Jack. His voice was shaking and he tried not to show how rattled he was, but he knew Jack would hear it.
Outside Anna lost her shit and picked up a nice heavy rock before slamming it down on the hood of the car, moving around the bodywork as she demanded answers, the windscreen not as solid as first thought either.
.
.
Jack was incensed, erupting from the vehicle while it was still moving and the driver made a small bark of alarm while hitting the brakes.
"What the hell are you doing, get out out here!" Jack demanded, then turned to look at the remains of the car.
"He's in our holiday home, why is he in…"
Jack seized her arm and yanked her away from the house "dad left it to him in his will, do you really want to fuck with that? Get nothing? Give back what he DID leave you? I do not know what is in that second will but I do know it will be a lot worse for you"
"What do you mean!" she scoffed "I was his wife."
"In name only, you spent more time in other men's beds than his and he knew it!" Jack was surprised he could be so brutal to his own mother. The thought of his father hurting so badly, knowing of her… oh god.
Jack felt sick.
This is what he was like? How Ianto felt? Like poor dad?
And, just when you think you can't go any lower… thanks.
Jack let go of his mother's arm and said coldly "Dad knew Gray was not his too. Alice is Harness in name only, just like he was."
He watched her face pale and felt a strange pleasure in it.
God, he was lucky Ianto was a better man than him.
