Chapter 2 -

Chuck wasn't a dancer but his dance card was full with whomever he was dealing with. He'd look and there they were, as if they shared something in common. But he sensed something but it wasn't clear to what that was because he had no idea who this person was and whether they were male or female, especially under all the black attire. But he wondered 'What if?'

He needed to be careful not to slip up because whoever his competitor was, they would love to get the upper hand. Chuck knew that they were definitely looking for the same person but were they on the same side, till he knew for sure, it was first come first serve.

As hours turned into days Chuck inwardly anticipated their reunion of sorts. He had to, he needed to find out more, for the mission of course.

Receiving more intel, Chuck was asked to meet with McFadden. But there was one question he needed to ask, Chuck took a deep breath. "Is there any other agents working on this particular mission or looking into Jan Vasser?" McFadden looked at him not pleased to be interrupted by this inquiry but was surprised that he hadn't inquired before this. McFadden looked up at him. "Carmichael the information is above your pay grade and even if there was, would that stop you?"

Chuck wasn't sure how to answer that question so he left it alone and headed out. McFadden looked up with a straight smile then went back to work. Chuck hadn't been in his new place long enough to call it home but he'd prefer to sleep in his own bed for once. Chuck looked at his plane ticket, he was going back to Amsterdam. Sources told him that Jan and Ana were seen recently as of a few days ago and had not left. Chuck figured that they were probably waiting for new identification and it was taking longer than they wanted. Chuck sat down and waited for his flight.

Sarah rolled over hearing her cell buzz. She grabbed it and looked at the text. 'Meet at the airport. Heading to Amsterdam.' She rolled over not liking to be on another trip so soon. This mission was going to be the one that would never end. She had chased Jan and Ana for weeks coming up empty or 'he' got there ahead of her. 'He.' His eyes. How dark and mysterious they were. As much as she saw of them. But what she saw haunted her dreams; secretly wanting to know who was behind those brown eyes.

Sarah took the subway to downtown and sat on the bench, placing her carry on next to her as was requested. She waited for her courier. Always wondering why she never picked up her missions at headquarters. She saw that it was LaFayette this time who was bringing her the new mission. LaFayette sat down and smiled. "Good day for a flight." Sarah coughed.

"It is." Sure it was, she was tired of flying or taking a train, she was tired of this mission. LaFayette slipped her the file. Sarah opened it. "Surveillance has them staked out in a room above a Dutch bakery. They haven't moved, so we are thinking that they are waiting for something. We need you to find out what they are waiting for and what their plans are." Sarah browsed the file then looked up. "Timeline?"

"It all depends on what they are waiting for. If we can apprehend them there then we can close the books on this mission."

Those words were music to Sarah's ears. She just hoped that it would happen. "Let me know what you find when you get there." LaFayette stood up. Sarah stood up with her and without thinking her mouth was open and the ball was dropped. "Is there another agent working on this mission?" LaFayette turned to face Sarah. "Sarah, that information is above your pay grade and even if there was, would that stop you?"

Sarah raised the file near her face as if she were saluting and headed to grab a taxi. LaFayette smiled as she watched Sarah hail a taxi and took off.

Sarah arrived at the airport and stepped out of her taxi, the airport was very busy. She listened to all the conversations and people passing by her but when she heard someone talking above all the rest, it got her attention. She looked up and saw a tall man with dark hair. She wished that he'd turn around, so she could see his face. His voice continued to carry above everyone else's but when he reached down to take his bag from the porter, she heard those him speak those two words that she had heard just a few days ago. 'Easy Breezy.' Her heart sank. She looked up. "It can't be?"

She tried to follow him as he headed inside. She held onto her bag as she tried to push her way through the crowd. She reached the escalator and ran up the stairs only to lose him again in the crowd of busy travellers. She shook her head. "I was so close."

Chuck found his seat near the front of the plane hoping for a little more leg room. He faced the overhead compartment placing his bag inside as passengers walked behind him making their way to their seats. Chuck took a quick glance in front of him and saw a blonde walking down the aisle. He wanted to see what she looked like but a taller gentleman stood directly in front of her blocking his view. Chuck disappointed, sat down and waited for take off. Sarah headed to the back of the plane as it was her preferred seating on any flight. She was instructed at the Farm to find a perfect spot to sit on a plane so you were able to see who was on the flight without straining your neck looking behind you. But honestly she liked being hidden from the rest of the world and not to be bothered.

The stewardess came and spoke and went through their mumble jumble then the plane started to roll down the run way. Chuck leaned his seat back looking forward to at least seven hours of uninterrupted sleep minus a snack and a meal if he was lucky.

Sarah, down, her second micky of scotch and closed her eyes. She had done her scan of where she was, and she felt that there was no threat, and the mood that she was in for being here in the first place, and losing that guy again, no one would want to mess with her.

Chuck opened his eyes, not liking the intrusion. It wasn't snack time or even time for a meal, it was nature's cruel calling. Chuck got up and headed to the back. His tune changed as he hoped to see that blonde that he had seen earlier. Walking down the aisle he glanced and smiled at those who were awake or interested in who was coming towards them, gave them something to do. Chuck neared the back of the plane not seeing any sign of a blonde. He shrugged his shoulders then reached for the first bathroom door. It was locked. He reached for the other door and stepped inside. Sarah unlocked the bathroom stall and slipped out and back to her seat, not realizing that someone was looking for her.

Chuck headed to his hotel and dropped his stuff off, his nap on the plane gave him some energy to do some reconnaissance. He recalled reading that they were hiding out above a bakery, but Amsterdam had more than their share of bakeries. He headed to the door and turned back grabbing his back pack and the few things he kept handy from the mission. He shuffled through his things till he found it. It was a picture of Jan and Ana standing in front of what Chuck figured could have been a bakery. He just had to find the one in the picture.

Sarah headed to a local bar looking for one of her informants that she had met a few months back and he owed her a favour. She walked in and the room stopped to see a blonde bombshell walk in. She was still getting use to having eyes on her. She hadn't seen herself as an attractive girl or even a woman for that matter. She was still getting use to not having braces and her brown hair was gone and lightened to a fresh blondish colour. She did like her black leather jacket and her black knee high boots that made her feel tall and with a purpose. Sarah looked up and saw him playing darts in the back. He was a nerdy fella but good at his job. He would be labelled one of those open books and at the right price he'd give you what you want or seek the information for a few extra bucks. Sarah grabbed a dart and flung it at the score board alarming the man. He turned. "Hey buddy, I am trying to play a game here!"

He saw the boots then followed them up towards Sarah's face. Sarah rested her hand on her hip and leaned against the table. "Travis."

"I, um, hey Sarah."

He swallowed quickly walking towards the table. "What brings you to Amsterdam? Business or pleasure."

Sarah never responded. "Business then. Right! What can I do for you?"

"Who do I see to have a fake ID made?"

"What, you want another one? I just got you some a few weeks ago."

"Not for me." This intrigued Travis.

"I need to know who around here makes ID's and if any were made for these two people." Sarah showed Travis the photo. He tried to grab it but Sarah was hesitant to give it up. "I will need the photo."

Sarah still wouldn't give it up, so Travis took a snapshot with his phone. "I will be right back." Sarah smiled a you better hurry look. Travis ran out of the bar. Sarah took the last of his darts and flung them at the wall, bulls eye.

An hour later Travis showed up. Sarah eyed the piece of paper that he was holding. "You're in luck. It wasn't easy." Travis looked at Sarah as to receive a payment but instead Sarah grabbed the piece of paper out of his hands and walked off. "Thanks Travis." As she closed the door behind her. She put her sunglasses on and looked at the piece of paper. It gave her an address to where the ID's were going to be delivered to. She smiled and hailed a cab.

Chuck was getting hungry after visiting several bakeries and coming up empty. He rounded the corner deciding that this was going to be his last one for now till he could get something to eat. He listed off places he could go. If Morgan were here, he'd have list of places under ten dollars to which they would be heading to. Chuck smiled as he came up to the bakery on his right. He walked to the edge of the sidewalk and looked up at the bakery sign. He held up the picture upright and it looked similar but he wasn't sure. He then noticed the building beside him then looked back at the photo. It was the same building with the same sign and address. Chuck entered the bakery as Sarah arrived entering from the back.

Chuck entered and saw that it was empty, he saw one of those counter bells but chooses not to ring it. He also checked to see if there were any cameras and again there was none. He slipped through the weighted plastic drapery that separated the front room from the back. He passed the kitchen area and heard something or someone upstairs. He quietly headed up stairs. Sarah came in from the back door entering the kitchen area and noticed no one. She too heard someone or something upstairs. She couldn't see any stairs from where she was but saw a metal ladder that she could take that would get her close enough to the only access to upstairs.

Chuck reached the top hearing whispers. 'For someone who was trying to stay invisible your sure making a lot of noise.' Chuck pulled his gun out and slowly opened doors and cabinets looking for the owners of the voices. He reached the next one on his right as he opened the door switching the gun into his left hand. He turned on the door knob edging the door slowly open. The door flew open as Chuck was thrown back by someone who barged through the door and ran down the hall. Chuck got up. "Really?"

Chuck opened the door again to see at least one person had the sense to stay put. Chuck looked at her. "Ana, I presume?"

Ana lowered her head.

Jan ran down the hall only to be clotheslined by Sarah. Sarah looked down at him. "Thanks for making my job easy." Sarah pointed the gun at him as he stood up. He looked at her and whispered something but Sarah was right there with a response. "You and whose army?" Jan continued to grumble. Chuck cuffed Ana and headed down the hall to go after Jan. Chuck entered the living area of the upstairs and sees a woman dressed in black, wearing knee high boots and a leather jacket. The same person he had seen all those other times. 'It can't be?' Just then Sarah turned around. And her first impression was not what she thought he'd look like or whether she'd ever see him again. He was way more mysterious, way more interesting than what he had portrayed under his mask. He was more than what she had envisioned.

Chuck sees her and all those other times he wondered who she was, and what she looked like. Now finally seeing her, she was a far cry to what he thought she'd look like. Besides her beauty, which was affecting his decision making, he still had many questions with no answers. He still didn't know who she was, or who she worked for and if she could be trusted. It finally registered that she has Jan in her hold and is holding Jan by the arm in a forceful way as he tried to escape. While Chuck held onto Ana who was done with all of this. The two agents faced each other like gun men ready for a noontime shoot out.

"I was here first." Sarah blurts out.

"Technically I was here first. I entered from the front door not knowing that you snuck in from the back."

"And how did I suppose to know that you came in the front?" Sarah giving him a stern look.

Jan and Ana just watched the two of them converse back and forth like a tennis match. Chuck got a bit of confidence and delivered what he thought was going to be the end of their conversation. "Well it's obvious that I will take both of them with me."

Sarah scoffed. "You think so. You give me her and we will call it even."

Chuck pulled Ana closer. "Call it even, for what?"

"For all those other times you took things from me?"

"Sweetheart, don't worry your pretty face we wouldn't want you to break a nail. Those other jobs were way to dangerous for you plus didn't you know that the early bird gets the worm."

"Stop saying that!"

Chuck added. "Ok, first come first serve." His antics just added fuel to the fire. But his charm was starting to have some power over her. She had to act like a spy and if she couldn't outsmart him she wasn't set out for this job.

She hailed her last shot. "They are coming with me."

Chuck turned and forced Ana to sit down as he cuffed her to the radiator. He slipped his gun into the back of his pants and slowly walked towards her. "It's the other way around." Chuck paused for a second edging closer to her. "It's obvious that we are maybe working for the same team or (emphasizing the or) you are out for your own gain. Either way I am going to leave this place with both of them."

"Really?" Sarah standing her ground. Chuck moved closer making Sarah backed up a but still had a good hold of Jan. Chuck faced her and looked her over. His voice soften slightly making a huge difference. "Are you going to hand him over?"

Sarah tossed her head back subtly then looked at him. "No!"

Chuck moved in as close as he could without sharing too much of the same air. He leaned. Sarah caught her breath as her inner desire was to be in this situation lost in his eyes, lost in all of him, losing all her inhibitions. Chuck continued to stay close all the while slowly reaching into his pocket and pulling out a zip tie. He gracefully took her wrist and slipping a zip tie around it. Sarah was unaware as his touch was like kryptonite. Chuck slipped the end into her loop of her pants as she gasped as he touched her lower back. Chuck leaned back and smiled. "Are you sure your not going to hand him over?" Backing her up against a baking shelf. Sarah trying to comprehend what he asked her. She again said "No!"

Chuck stood straight. "Ok." He turned on his heels reaching for Jan as he took him with him circling back towards Ana. Sarah tried to hang onto Jan, but her left arm pulled the zip tie tight around her back making her lose her grip on Jan. Chuck walked over to Ana and grabbed both of them. He looked over at his competition. Sarah struggled making the zip ties tighter. She looked up. Chuck smiled then spoke. "Whoever you are your good. But what has gone on here, I'd say I'm the better one. Easy Breezy."

Sarah twisted not helping the situation. "You can't leave me here!"

Chuck smiled at Jan and Ana. "Don't move." He grabbed his phone and called it in. He slipped his phone into his pocket and headed towards the stairs. Leaving Sarah to fend for herself. Chuck waited in the front lobby of the bakery. Securing each of them to a chair while they waited. Chuck heard his stomach growl so he slipped back behind the counter and grabbed a few doughnuts and started eating. Jan and Ana looked beyond him hoping that the woman was coming down. Chuck took another bite and noticed them looking up at the doorway. "She'll be busy for awhile. There are only a few ways to get loose. Either she breaks her thumb or she cuts them loose. I'm guessing she'll wait to be rescued, I wouldn't want her to break a nail."

Chuck continued to chew on his doughnut. Chuck looked up as police arrived, he wiped his fingers grabbing Jan and Ana but on his way out he grabbed another doughnut and exited the bakery. Upstairs Sarah struggled till she was able to grab her knife from her right boot. She slid the knife over the back of the tie hoping that she was cutting it and not her skin. She finally cut the right one and looked at the what had her tied up. She was impressed but she was inconveniently affected by his presence but at the same time, ticked off that she was taking by his charm. Something that she'd never do again.

Sarah headed down the stairs as the room was full of law enforcement. She was able to avoid being accosted and slipped out the back. She headed down the street dreading the call to LaFayette and telling her that she wasn't coming in with Jan and Ana Vassar. She was about to dial when she saw a text come through. 'Meet in the office ASAP.'

8:00 a.m. local time London

Sarah was tired, and beaten up by a man who she had no idea who he was. But he had out smarted her too many times on too many occasions. He had gotten under her skin and her thoughts were not hers but were about him. She looked at her text again as she headed to the office, those words, cryptic and worrisome. Sarah opened the door of the MI6 office and slipped into the elevator. She walked up to the desk and explained who she was and was escorted down the hall. She rounded the hall and approached the conference room. She looks to see who was there and the first person she hears after she is ordered to come in after the Amsterdam mission, is him.

"You!"

McFadden walks in behind her followed by LaFayette as they sit down. "Good you two have met."

Chuck looks up and has the same reaction but has nothing to say.

McFadden looks at Sarah as Sarah finally sits down. "Great job on the Amsterdam mission. Now onto new business."

"Great job? Seriously, this man has been a thorn in my side for weeks, stealing intel, bad guys and you have the nerve to say great job. And all along he has."

"Yes, you two have been on the same team." LaFayette spoke. Sarah sat back and folded her arms. Chuck sat up leaning his elbows on the table. He was now interested in what they had to say. "We." LaFayette looks at McFadden. "We wanted to know if you two could work together. So we had you two go on the same mission and we observed both of you and how you followed through. We were impressed with both of you and that you two though believing that you two were running solo, you actually were working together. We also had an ulterior motive. We have a new mission that requires only the best and along with two other agents we feel that this team can have a very successful mission."

Chuck looked at Sarah. "And why didn't you tell us? I asked you if there was someone else working on these missions and you said no."

"Exactly and we are sorry about that. But we needed to know if we could trust you and we wanted to see what you could do. If you would have known, we believe that the mission might have not been so successful or completed in a timely matter." McFadden looked at Chuck and Sarah then stood up. "As we mentioned earlier, you two will be joining two other agents that we feel will add to the dynamics. McFadden walked to the door and motioned to someone in the hall. Sarah continued to look at Chuck with all the hatred she had for him but was it hatred she was feeling. Sarah looked up as a well dressed man, average height and looks walked in wearing a three piece suit. He smiled and stood up at the front of the room. The next person walked in. Chuck sat up and started at her shoes then followed her long legs past her tight dress, slim build long arms, long reddish hair meeting her eyes. He smiled as she stood up at the front. Sarah just smiled and shook her head. "Charles Carmichael and Sarah Walker." McFadden closed the door and stood facing the table.

This was the first time that each of them had a name to go with their person. Sarah looked at Charles and she figured the name kinda suited him, but he didn't seem like a Charles, if she had to guess a name for him. She was glad that his name wasn't Bruce. Chuck looked over at her. 'Sarah.' He whispered.

McFadden repeated. "Charles and Sarah. This is agent Carina Miller and MI6 agent William Batson. Chuck laughed. "Billy Batson." Everyone looked at Chuck. "What? Billy Batson, Shazam?" They continued to look at him with utter confusion. "Does any one read comic books anymore?"

McFadden sat down as Carina squealed and sat down beside Sarah and William sat down next to Chuck. Chuck looked at the women, they were awfully chummy with each other, way too chummy. William turned to face Chuck extending his hand. "Charles." In a thick British Accent. Chuck high fived him and sat back still staring at Sarah. "Carina, Sarah, your reunion can wait."

Chuck looked at William. "They are old friends from DC." This added to the mystery of one Sarah Walker.

Chuck relieved, slightly but Sarah was even more mysterious.

"Your new mission is to find and retrieve a remote device that rumors have it being auctioned off at the end of the month. This device, they say is capable of obtaining highly classified information through Wi-Fi, monitors devices such as glucose monitors, cell phones."

Chuck raised his hand. "Excuse me but don't we have this stuff already. Banks, computers, security systems, portable devices and I bet one day we will have a system that will be able to talk to us. So why this specific device?"

"This device is what we are considering to be the master key. It was created to out smart anything that is already out there. We need to locate it and make sure it doesn't get to the auction."

"Where do we think it is now?"

"Good question Ms. Walker." Sarah smiled back at Chuck. "We believe that it is enroute to Spain or Spain is the final destination. The auction is by invite only and even then, you're not guaranteed a final seat."

Carina watched the two of them banter back and forth asking what they thought was a better question than what the previous person had asked. She was wondering if there was something more going on here than what they wanted to share. "One more thing team." McFadden stood up. "I need you four in Brussels by evening. Our team, they believe that those involved with the development of this device may still be in the area and may know the location of the device and or why they decided to give it up. Your flight leaves in two hours. Once you arrive you will try to locate them, find out who might have taken the device from them and why? Obtain any intel or hopefully a paper trail that will lead us to this device. You are dismissed."

McFadden and LaFayette walked out of the room. Sarah and Carina embraced. "What are you doing here?"

"What and miss this?" As Carina looked over at Chuck who was trying to drown out Williams babbling. Sarah looked at Carina. "He's not worth it?"

"Why not?" He's quite fetching."

Carina looked at Sarah. "He's not the one that, you, all those times." Sarah placed her hands on Carina's shoulders and pushed her out of the room. "He is."

Sarah kept moving down the hall. Chuck got up and headed down the hall, his shadow tailed from behind. Chuck headed down the stairs to the locker room. William followed. Chuck walked to his locker and grabbed one of his to go bags. He checked his bag for what he had and what he needed to add. "Billy."

He closed the door only to see William standing there. "Billy, William how long do we think we will be gone?"

"That depends Charles. A few days, a week?"

Chuck nodded and opened the door of his locker again. He walked over and grabbed a few suits and placed them inside his garment bag. He grabbed both of his bags and headed upstairs.

Down the hall Sarah restocked her bag and Carina laid on the bench watching. "So tall, dark and handsome is the one that has your underwear and maybe something else tied in a knot." Sarah looked at her. "And you just found out earlier that he was the guy. Wow you must be fuming, too bad you couldn't reach across the table. If I were you I would try him out first before I killed him." Carina sat up.

"And they want us to work together." Sarah stuffing items into her bag. Carina knew that Sarah was still fixed on an earlier conversation. "Walker, he's not worth it or is he? So what if he outsmarted you then. Now that you know who he is and what he can do, you can make it your goal to do a little payback. But if I were you I would try him out first. If he is that good as a spy, can you imagine what he is like in bed?" Carina walked to the door as Sarah pondered what Carina had said.

Brussels

Sarah returned to her room after the four of them did some reconnaissance. It was text book, they located the building, found some intel and a start of a paper trail that William was heading back to look into more. But the place was empty, and that meant they would have to stay till they were able to find those involved. Chuck decided to stay back a little longer which Sarah was fine with at the time but when she got back to her room all she could do was pace. She was angry, but for the first time since meeting him she was angry with her self. Why would she force herself to be jealous of him and who he was? It wasn't that they were a couple.

Sarah grabbed her hotel card and some cash and headed down to the bar. Maybe a drink or two would make her forget about him. Sarah closed the door and headed to the elevator. Walking in she leaned against the wall and closed her eyes, taking in the ride down to the main floor. She hated these missions, the nights were so long and being alone in more ways than one. The elevator stopped, Sarah got ready to exit. Reality had a sick way of letting her know who was in charge. As the doors opened she remembered that she didn't choose this profession, it found her thanks to her dad. Sarah walked the lobby to the bar and sat down. She ordered a drink and slid her hand behind her neck massaging it slightly, when she glanced over and saw him. She had to look twice. She assumed that he was still out there. 'Was I up there that long?' There he sat reading a book and having a cup of coffee. He looked up and smiled as he lowered his head back into his book. She turned to face the door but knew he was looking at her. She nursed her drink then, when she had the courage to look back and maybe go over and be civil he was no longer sitting there. She turned to face the bar, slightly disappointed she saw a book next to her. He sat down. "I see you can't sleep either."

They both knew that was a lie, but Sarah smiled. She leaned on her arm as she massaged her neck again. She looked at the book then picked it up. "The Book Thief? Interesting title?"

Chuck looked up. "Have you?"

"Not much of a reader. What is it about?"

"Just started it, I found it in the gift shop. I forgot my book at home, I usually have one or two books along with a few comics to read during my off time. This book is about the adventures of one Liesel Meminger in Germany during a time of war. The other persona is Death who narrates the story giving his unique perspective into the victims of war."

"Sounds interesting."

"I'll let you know how it goes when I get further into the novel."

Sarah smiled as he was so sincere. Chuck motioned to the bar tender as he took their order then returning. Sarah nervously stirred her glass watching the ice cubes spin. She looked up at Chuck as he stirred his coffee. She watched him intently watching everything about him. "You not drinking?"

"It's decaf, and I'm not much of a drinker with it being so late." Chuck licked his stir stick then placed it beside his cup. "I'm not a good sleeper so I choose to find a place to read a good book and if I am lucky find someone to talk to. It makes up for not sleeping."

"And you? Not a sleeper?"

"No, just couldn't relax. I have a lot going on."

Chuck took a sip of his cup. "Well I could be your very own baggage handler."

Not fazed by what he said. Sarah replied. "Maybe one day." They both smiled. They enjoyed their drinks then looked up when they heard last call. Chuck walked her to her room but stayed a few feet back. She turned to face him. "I don't bite."

Chuck laughed. "This is good for now, have a good sleep."

Sarah bit her lip slightly at what he said. Chuck waited till Sarah walked in and closed the door. Sarah crawled into bed finally getting some much needed sleep.

Hours later

Chuck was sitting down at one of the benches waiting for the other three. Sarah approached him, giving him a look. He was holding his coffee in one hand and his book in the other. Sarah noticed that he was already half way done. Chuck looked up and put down the book and leaned forward bringing in sight another cup of coffee. Sarah took the cup and watched him get up and walk over to William. Sarah turned the cup to see that her name was on it and what she liked in her coffee.
