Can A Robot And A Fish Be Friends?

Undyne headed for Alphys' lab, a bit tired after a long day working with the police department to bring in some wanted criminals, but she was happy because she and her team had busted a corrupt judge who was kidnapping children from their parents by declaring the parents to be unfit when that wasn't the case. Even a corrupt sheriff had been helping him.

Undyne had asked Dogressa and her husband to help search for the missing children and they had faithfully searched the whole city after meeting with the parents who wanted their children back and sniffing either shoes or toys that belonged to the children. It only took two days for the dog monsters to find the scents all led to the judge's house and when they looked inside, they found a heartbreaking sight.

The older children were doing manual labor and the younger children were kept in cages. There were even a couple infants that the judge had taken from their families and one girl, who was no more than fourteen, was caring for the two children.

Dogressa had put the call in and Undyne came with her team and they surprised the judge and the corrupt sheriff, finding two other children in the back of the sheriff's car that the judge had taken away from loving parents. The two children in the sheriff's car were both four years old and were terrified, but Greater Dog had helped them to calm down while Undyne spoke to the kids, promising them that if they told the police officers with her the truth, they could go back to their parents.

That promise helped and the two young ones told her about how the sheriff told the kids they had to leave their parents and they were practically dragged away from their loving parents' arms, who pleaded with the cold-hearted sheriff, but he didn't listen. That testimony combined with the testimonies of the teenage children rescued from the house was more than enough to lock the corrupt judge and corrupt sheriff away for life.

The children rescued from the cages had been afraid, but thankfully, some of the officers had the idea to go to the local fast food place and bring some food. When they arrived with the food, the kids were at first reluctant to accept, though they were obviously starving. Dogressa told the children that they could eat and if they did, not only would they be reunited with their folks, but they would be given clean clothes too. "We can even go to the toy store," her husband said. "And you kids can pick out a toy to take home."

That won the young ones over and the teenagers were promised that they could pick out something too. Altogether, fifteen children were rescued and when the EMTs arrived to give the kids checkups, it was shown that though they were rather thin and had some bruises, they had no severe injuries. "Just a lot of rest and good food," the lady EMT there said. "I suggest a week of both of those before the kids go back to school."

"We can get excused absenses from the schools for them," Undyne said with a nod as a little boy came up to her and gently tugged her hand. The red-haired fish woman looked down at the little boy and smiled. "Hey, kiddo. How are you feeling?" She asked.

The little boy was quiet for a minute before he spoke up. "Are we really going back home?" He asked. "I can see Mommy and Daddy and Grandma again?"

"That's right, little buckaroo," she said, kneeling down to his height and gently ruffling his hair. "I bet your family will be thrilled to have you back."

The little boy smiled and a teenage girl came up to Undyne, looking at her hopefully. "At the toy store, can I get something for my little brother?" She asked. "He's only four years old, but he and I are close."

"We sure can, kiddo," the fish woman said. "What does he like?"

"Anything to do with dinosaurs," the girl said.

"We'll see if we can find a good one for him then. Is there anything you'd like too?"

"Well...I like to draw. I'd like to become a painter someday and was taking drawing lessons to start out."

Undyne grinned. "Your dream is going to come true, kiddo," she promised.

After the police had gotten what they needed, they told Undyne the kids were free to go back home. "We'll take care of things with CPS, but I think these kiddos deserve to go back to their parents instead of in the system," said one of them.

"I've got a buddy in CPS that can help," a policewoman said. "He's a father himself and he was hoping these kids would be found safe and sound."

"Thank you all for helping us," Undyne said.

"Hey, it was your team that found them, Undyne," the police captain said, as she had come down to help out. "I'm going to recommend you and your team receive medals for this."

"Actually, Captain, is it okay to instead just treat everyone to donuts and coffee?" The fish woman asked. "Cause while my team may have found where the kids were, everyone here has pitched in to help the kids."

The captain smiled. "Alright," she said.

After the promised trip to the clothing store to get some new clothes and the toy store to get toys for the young ones, they made one more stop at another store and the teens grabbed either books or drawing pads. One even grabbed a notebook with a cool cover design, saying she was practicing to be a writer someday.

The reunions that followed were joyful as the parents were crying tears of happiness that their children were safe and sound, singing praises to all of the police and the monsters that had helped. It was emotional and even some of the policemen and women were crying a little too.

Now, Undyne entered the lab and sat on the couch with a sigh. "And there's the hero," she heard and looked up to see Mettaton was coming her way and smiling.

"Ugh, Mettaton, can I please have a moment of peace?" She asked. "I just helped to bust two corrupt officials and get a bunch of kids back to their homes and...and...,"

Here she paused as she began to get a little choked up. Mettaton sat beside her and placed a hand on her shoulder. "Are you alright?" He asked, a note of concern in his voice.

She took a deep breath and sighed, a few tears escaping her eyes. "I just...I'm glad those kids are okay," she said. "If we hadn't found them, who knows what could have happened?"

Undyne grabbed a bandana and mopped her face while the robot handed her some cold water, to which she looked at him in surprise. "Okay, what's up with you?" She asked curiously.

"Just wanting to be a good friend," he admitted.

"Um...we're not really friends, you know," she said.

"Perhaps we can change that," he said. "Alphys and I were watching you on the news and I'm considering doing a segment on your bravery and the bravery of those officers that helped you to save those children."

"So you want to be friends because I'm deemed a hero, Mettaton?" She asked, looking at him with a cocked eyebrow.

The robot looked at her. "I may be a star and a bit overdramatic, but I'm not that shallow," he said. "I...I've actually been wanting to be friends with you for a long time, but...well, I know you're not a fan of mine."

"Cause you do sappy stuff," she said.

"And what's wrong with being a little sappy?"

He had her there as she couldn't think of a good reply to that. "Undyne, I know you're good friends with Alphys and she is my creator. She constantly tells me about you and how she admires you. I admire you too, going out there into the fray with no fear. I can't even do that and not just because I have delicate circuits."

She looked at him. "But...didn't you and Frisk battle?" She asked.

He winced at that. "Yes, but...I was doing that for show and went too far," he said. "I...I thought she was tough like us, but...well, I learned otherwise."

Undyne looked at him sympathetically. "Yeah, I did too," she said. "Frisk really opened our eyes, didn't she?"

"And became friends with both of us," the robot said. "I've heard her call you her aunt many times."

"Believe it or not, she always calls you her uncle," the fish woman said. "I was picking her up from school one day and one kid had a picture on their phone that they had taken with you and when Frisk told them you were her uncle, they were amazed and told her that they thought you were cool."

Mettaton looked a bit bashful at that. "I do hope no one is bullying her and wanting to be friends with her just because she's my niece or because of the rest of us," he said worriedly.

"I think some kids were curious, but she does have some genuine friends that stuck with her, especially when some kids began bullying her."

"Good."

They were quiet for a bit and the robot took a deep breath. "Undyne, why don't we learn from Frisk?" He said. "If she could become friends with me and you, despite first meetings, then perhaps we can become friends too?"

Undyne sighed and looked thoughtful. "Well...okay, I can't think of an argument against that," she said. "But if we do become friends, you are not pulling me onto one of your sets and making me wear something ridiculous."

"What if Frisk asks you to do that for her?" Mettaton asked with a smirk.

She was shocked for a moment before she playfully glared at him. "Oh, you little...!" She said as she tackled him, both falling to the floor as it became a wrestling match between them.

But Mettaton sneaked a hand up to Undyne's ear fins and tickled them, making her squeal with laughter and try to escape, but he chuckled, still tickling her. "Come on, Undyne. Can we be friends?" He asked.

"YOHOOHOOOHOOHOOHOOHOOHOOHOOU LEHEHEHEHEHEHEHET GOHOOHOOHOOHOOHOOO! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! EEEEEEEEE! NOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOT THAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAT!"

The reason for Undyne's squeal was that a second set of hands joined in to tickle both her ear fins and Mettaton grinned to see it was Alphys, who was giggling as Undyne laughed harder, managing to tap the floor with her open palm, which made both Mettaton and Alphys stop the tickle torture and the fish woman took some deep breaths. "Sneaky," she said before grinning at Alphys, who blushed and took a few steps back. "Mettaton, help me get back at Alphys and we'll be friends."

"I'd never pass up an opportunity to tickle my creator," the robot said with a smile before holding one hand out for a handshake. "Deal?"

"Deal," the warrior said before they took off after Alphys, who began running as soon as the two had shook hands. Both soon caught up to the dinosaur and had her squealing with laughter as they tickled her to pieces with Undyne blowing raspberries into the dinosaur's sensitive stomach and Mettaton not only blew raspberries into Alphys' neck, but tickled her ribs with his fingers.

After a bit, they let their friend up and she giggled again. "I was worried you two wouldn't become friends," she said.

"I guess you can say that we just needed some encouragement," Undyne said with a grin.

Mettaton grinned back. "I just ordered some pizza, sodas, and ice cream for us," he said. "I think a pizza party is in order to celebrate the success of a case solved and how many families are back together again thanks to Undyne, who refused to give up until those kids were found."

"I agree," Alphys said with a smile.

"And to celebrate the beginning of our new friendship," Undyne said before she tickled Mettaton's sides, making him laugh and squirm to get away from the playful attack from his new friend.
