I have never been to the Konoha Hospital before. Or any hospital in this life. I've heard about it though. A girl a few years older than me went when I was at the orphange. She had gotten really sick and so Kanpu had put her in the wagon and pulled her all the way to the village.
It was a shock honestly, especially considering Kanpu is by no means athletic and the older man was just that, older. We all reaped havoc with only Keiri to watch us for the next two weeks, though for the three year old me, I was just happy I had learnt to read. He came back without the girl though. He told us she was adopted, I wouldn't have believed him and thought that unfortunately she had passed away and was trying to spare out feelings because she was REALLY sick if he hadn't brought photographic proof. Turns out a quarter of the way to the village he stumbled onto a merchant who helped him get her the rest of the way and after the trip decided to adopt her since she looked like his dead wife. Creepy I know but it was one of the few adoptions that happened.
Kanpu described the hospital to our eager ears, as isolated as we were, to us it was an exciting tale.
The closest I got to 'modern medicine' in this life was the medical books and the medic who once a year came to the orphanage to give vaccines to all the kids. Not a very welcomed visit I'm sure you can guess.
Looking at the building now it didn't look like most other administrative buildings in the village. The academy and hokage tower though definitely cared for had an old fashion kind of feel to it. An immovable presence as though they had always been there instead of how young the village was in reality. This place? No, the hospital had a modern sort of glow, white wall, blue roof, orange windowsills. All newly painted perfectly looking somehow both new and not. It was actually kind of in welcoming at first glance but knowing why I was here made me hold Iruka's hand a little tighter than I should. He insisted we hold hands when we left the academy property as though I needed it, I live without any adult help as it is, he knows this yet he insists anyway.
"Don't be nervous." Iruka says in a kind voice as we walk into the hospital through the main entrance. I am pretty sure there is other entrance, probably for shinobi who are injured as not to scare civilians.
I don't reply because there is every reason to be nervous. Sure there are one or two kids in my class who I am pretty sure have activated their chakra, but I don't need anything else to make me stand out. Besides what if they somehow find out about my unique gamer abilities? I know that is probably impossible but how can I know that for sure?
"The first room on the right." The receptionist says and I hadn't even realized that Iruka had been talking while I was worrying. I need to stay more alert. He pulls me along by my arm one tug at a time and we enter in a farmiliar type of room.
It must be a basic exam room, there's a table made of some sort of rubber in a gentle blue by the window and a few chairs. I choose to sit on a chair instead of the table. I spend a while childishly fiddling with my fingers and swinging my legs in opposite directions before the doctor/medic comes in. He's a shinobi, dressed in standard medical corp clothes and pale yellow jacket that covers everything but the face and hands with a Konoha plate on his forehead.
"Hello," he says in a semi friendly semi bored tone. "My name's Touma, your Sayori right?" He asks and sits next to me. I'm glad he didn't ask me to sit on the table.
"That's me." I say with a nod feeling my age in the moment.
"Well it's a very pretty name." He says with a smile." I nod, I think it's a pretty name too. Still this conversation is NOT going to get me to trust him. "Your teacher said you hit your head in class. I'm going to use my chakra to make sure everything ok, it might feel a little funny alright?" He asks and narrow my eyes and his hand glows green, the warmth it radiates the lightest was intense, everything feels intense right now. If my sensing skills were eyes then it would be like I had been wearing five pairs of sunglasses all my life and suddenly they were all removed at once in the middle of the dessert.
He doesn't wait for an answer as his hand moves towards my head I wince feeling the strange chakra mingling with my own. I don't know him, and it feels almost personal, it doesn't feel right. I close my eyes hard, it's scary, my senses feel alive in a new sort of way it's giving me a headache and suddenly it feels like something is about to jump at me and he pulls away. When I open my eyes to face him the medics own eyes are wide. Oh no, what exactly did I do?
"Well?" Iruka says and I had totally forgotten he was even in the room. The medic gets up looking at me differently, as though he wants to pick me apart with his gaze alone.
"Well it seems Sayori here has simply activated her chakra." He states in a matter of fact tone after clearing his throat, though how he is scribbling on his clipboard does not reassure me.
"I… then why would she react as she did?" Iruka asks almost… concerned, he's a very big brother like character I can see why Naruto got so close to him.
"She's chakra sensitive." He then states and the look in Iruka's eyes tells me he's as confused as I am. Touma sighs seeing this confusion as well. "Chakra sensitives react differently to chakra, they SENSE it, usually the reaction is minimal, some get itchy, or feel 'sticky', they just need to adjust to having it circulating and feeling it around them." Touma tells us in a gentle tone and then kneels down in front of me.
"I don't feel itchy." I tell him and I don't. I feel… raw, likes every nerve is heightened, like when you have a sore that only needs to be blown on to send shooting pain up your spine.
"Your a special case Sayori." Touma says and I don't like the sound of that. Special does not sound under the radar. "You had a very large reaction to my chakra probe, with the right training you could be quite the sensor some day." Touma tells me with a smile but I feel myself shrink. I am already a sensor, is that not normal?
"I see but she'll be fine?" Iruka inquires and Touma gets up nodding to the brunette who seems very relieved.
"Yes, she may not augment her muscles with chakra naturally however, so she'll have to consciously do so. I recommend some additional chakra control training. However this is perfectly normal." Touma reassures and makes his way to the door. "Have a nice day." He waves before leaving and we leave shortly after him. My only thought is how much I need to get to the library and figure out what hole I have fallen into and fast.
"See you tomorrow Iruka-sensei." I say with a bow when we leave, the academy is probably over for the day by now.
"Umm… right… oh and Sayori?" He asks and I pause my escape. "I'm a sensor too, if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask." He says and I smile and nod before rushing off to the library.
