Today is August 8th, which I headcanon as Cersei and Jaime's birthday. Because of course, they're Leos, and 88 is the symbol of double infinity, so August 8th. Can we make a fan canon that August 8th is their birthday? Also, this skips scenes a bit, I tried to separate the scene jumps with lines so it's hopefully not too jarring.
Beta'd by RhaenaTargaryen on ao3
Adding this note in for Fandom blind readers from reddit Only minimum canon knowledge is needed as this is a modern AU. In canon, Cersei and Jaime are siblings but also lovers. In this AU they have not yet realized their feelings for each other, but they do by the end of this fic.
Edit: I realized this dumb site deleted the lines I used for scene breaks, so now I'm just writing in scene break every time it changes. Stupid site.
Thank you to my friends, redditors, and a reviewer by the name of Aegar for reviewing the ending of my last fluff fic Into Your Arms.
"I love you. I love you. I love you!" Cersei exclaimed, panting out of breath as she hopped onto her bike.
Jaime got on his bike beside her. He turned to smile at his sister before they both took off, him riding right behind her. "We don't have long until father notices we're gone. We'd best get far away. Any ideas where we should go?"
"I thought you had something in mind when you pulled me into the other room and convinced me to follow you out to our bikes!" Cersei exclaimed.
"No. I just wanted away from there. Gerion and father arguing was bad enough. But then Lancel kept bothering me."
"He's such a little brat. He wouldn't leave me alone earlier either. It's like he thinks he's our third twin," Cersei laughed.
Her blonde hair shone brightly in the sun as they neared the end of Lannister Estate. Jaime thought Cersei was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. He like liked her. He knew everyone said it was wrong. She was his sister for seven's sake, but he didn't care. The Targaryens in the history books had married brother and sister for hundreds of years, hadn't they?
"Where will we go?" He asked.
"Let's ride to the fair," she suggested.
"The one father forbade us from?" Jaime asked.
Cersei laughed. "Do you know of any other ones?"
"No. This will be fun. We can go on the death coaster," said Jaime.
"If you aren't too scared," Cersei said.
"I'm not scared of anything!"
"You didn't pet the lion."
"That was years ago! And maybe I didn't wanna lose a hand."
"Well I petted the lion and I didn't lose my hand," she said proudly.
A few moments passed before Jaime spoke again, "I noticed you talking to Rhaegar Targaryen."
"Yeah. So?"
"Do you like him? Like like-like him?" He asked nervously.
"Maybe."
His hands gripped the handles tightly. "Maybe?"
"Well, he is the most popular boy in school." The school they attended, Crownland Central, was a large school that taught grades six through twelve. Cersei and Jaime were entering seventh grade next year and Rhaegar Targaryen would be starting his junior year.
"How are things with Melara?" Cersei asked, the question coming out more bitter sounding than she'd intended..
The road was now wider, and Jaime maneuvered his bike next to hers. "What do you mean? She's utterly boring."
"Why do you go out with her then?"
"She asked me. And then after she broke both legs I couldn't very well break up with her, could I? I wonder how that happened."
"I can't believe my friend was so clumsy. They really should put a cover on that well, right?"
"A cover. Yeah. I'm sure that was the problem." He paused for a moment. "So do you really like Rhaegar Targaryen? Or do you just want him because he's popular?"
"He's the most handsome boy in the world."
"The most handsome in the world? Are you sure?" He asked, feeling for the first time ever insecure in his looks. If only he were older. That must be it. He needed to grow more, both in height and muscle. Even still, just about every girl in his class had sent him a, "Do you like me?" note during the school year. He'd circled no on each and every one.
Until Melara that was. What better way to find out if the girl he actually did like was interested in anyone else than to get closer to her best friend?
"I'm kinda sure. Though there's some that might be cuter."
"Who would that be? Anyone I know?"
"Hmmm, maybe. I don't know."
"Who is it?" Jaime pressed.
"Maybe Robert Baratheon. He has the whole tall, dark, and handsome thing going for him after all."
"Really, so you prefer dark hair then?"
"What if I do?"
He pressed his breaks, coming to an abrupt stop. "Do you?"
She stopped a few feet ahead of him and looked back at him. "What's it to you? And why are we stopping?"
"I just needed a break."
"How can you be a black belt in karate yet be needing a break this soon?" She asked.
He wasn't exactly a black belt yet, but he wasn't going to remind her of that. Rhaegar Targaryen probably was a blackbelt. "Just do. My blond hair was getting in my face too much. I think I need it cut."
She frowned. "I like it how it is."
"Do you? I thought you preferred tall, dark, and handsome."
"Perhaps I prefer tall, blond, and handsome."
"Well, which is it?"
"I prefer...somebody who won't ask so many questions. Race you there!" she said, taking off.
"Hey!" He called after her.

"You owe me," Cersei said.
"I'll pay you back soon as my allowance comes."
"There will be twenty-five percent interest."
"Twenty-five percent! Are you crazy?!" Jaime exclaimed.
"Only when I don't get what I want."
Scene break
The two stood in front of the counter, each holding a gun aimed at a target. Above their heads was a banner that said, "The first monarch to reach the top wins a crown."
"Hey!" Jaime exclaimed as a burst of water hit him square between the eyes. "Stop! Stop!"
The assault on his face didn't stop and so he turned his gun to the source.
"Excuse me," a voice said.
Both twins ignored the man and continued spraying each other.
"I said excuse me!" The man exclaimed louder.
Still, they ignored him.
A moment later a loud ding sound was heard and the guns stopped shooting.
"Hey! Turn that back on!" Exclaimed Cersei.
"You need to leave now. Both of you."
"My father is-"
"Father won't be happy if he hears of this!" Jaime reminded.
"Fine. This game was stupid and rigged anyway!"
"What did you do that for?" He asked as they walked away.
"You were winning. I had to stop you," she said, as though she had done no wrong.
"Well smart thinking. Now neither of us won. And we were the only two playing!"
"Well if I can't have the crown then no-one can!"
"I would have given it to you!"
Scene break
He thought she'd be scared on the rollercoaster. Perhaps she would grip his hand tightly.
Instead, to his embarrassment, it was he who gripped her hand tightly.
Scene break
"Which one do you want?" the man asked.
Jaime pointed to the stuffed lion. "That one."
"Are you going to give that to Melara?" Cersei asked, unable to keep the jealousy from her voice.
"No. I'm going to give it to my favorite girl in the world."
"And who is that?"
"Hmmm. Perhaps I'll tell you later. For now, I think I'll hold onto it."
Scene break
"I'm starving, let's get some food," said Jaime.
"I already ate," said Cersei.
"What? When?"
"When you went on that boring slide ride again," she replied.
"That was why you ditched me? You could have said something!"
"The line for the food was growing. I had no time."
"Well. it was not nice of you to ditch me like that!"
"Don't go on boring rides with long lines then," said Cersei.
"The slide ride was not boring!"
"It was so! Now come. I'll show you where to get the best corndogs!"
Scene break
"You wanna drive?"
"What?" Cersei asked him, confused.
"In the car."
She laughed. "Oh, we are not sharing one."
Jaime pouted, "why not?"
"Because what would be the fun in that?"
Before he could protest, Cersei made a beeline for the red and yellow bumper car. He tried to follow her inside but she placed her hands on the passenger seat. Seeing everyone was getting in their cars, he sighed in defeat and chose a red and green bumper car.
The cars started up and Jaime started bumping into random people when he felt his car get hit by a great force.
He tried to turn around to hit the offender and was met with the laughter of his twin as she hit his car yet again.
He sped away hoping she would go after someone else.
It was of no use. She continued to go after him over and over and over.
When the game finally ended he was stuck in a corner.
"That wasn't very fun!" He exclaimed when they got out.
"I disagree. Want to go again?"
"No!"
"Pleaseeeeee," She grabbed his hand, and emerald eyes stared back at emerald while a slight wind blew her blonde curls. He wanted to reach out and twirl the hair in his fingers as he'd done when they were young.
"Okay. But you have to promise not to go after me like that again," he said finally.
"Hmmm fine. I'll tell you who the target is then and you have to listen."
"Alright then."
A few moments passed before they were ready to go again and Cersei chose their victim.
Jaime turned to look at where she was pointing. An overly freckled pale blonde-haired child of indeterminate gender with big blue eyes. The child looked to be barely six and was probably going on the bumper cars on his or her own for the very first time.
"You sure? That's a little kid," Jaime said.
"That's the fun of it."
"Hmmm fine then. But next time I get to choose."
Scene break
"You should not have had us go after that boy with the eyepatch! My back hurts from how hard he rammed my car!" Cersei complained
"Well it still went better than when we went after that blonde kid," Jaime said.
"That went fine for me," Cersei said.
"Well, not for me. And thank you by the way for your swift help in that matter!"
"Well sorrrrrrrrrry. I saw Lysa Tully and I had to change course! Got her good too!"
Scene break
It was dark out now and the fair would be closing in an hour or two. It had been a pretty fun day, going on rides, playing various games, and eating corn dogs, cotton candy, fried cheese curds, deep-fried twinkies, and various other foods. They'd both even taken the others' dare to try a Cinnamon sugar-dusted deep-fried mammoth ear from the wildlings food stand.
Have we gone on all the rides yet?" Jaime asked.
"All the ones that weren't for little kids, yeah. And we've played all the games," Cersei said.
"We didn't go on the Ferris wheel yet," Jaime said.
"Seems boring. Pass."
"Awww. Come on, Cers, think of how great the view will be from up top!"
"I saw plenty of a view when we went on those swings that shoot up and down."
He had to get her on that Ferris Wheel so that he could kiss her. If she was grossed out by it he could always joke that he did it as a prank in retaliation for her turning that water gun his way earlier. But surely she wouldn't be grossed out? After all, she'd been jealous enough of Melara to push her into a well. So she must like-like him too, right?
"Cers, if you go on the Ferris wheel with me I'll give you all of my allowance next week."
"Alri...wait, you already owe me from the ride tickets, games, and food I bought here!"
"Oh. Good point. Alright, all of my next two allowances then!"
"Okay then."
Scene break
They were at the top of the Ferris wheel now. It was now or never. He'd had his arm around her since they'd started rising up, but that was the norm for them. They'd always been very affectionate with each other.
He turned his eyes from the fireworks that had started over to her and moved his fingers over to twirl her hair gently. She looked over at him and he made his move.
Their lips touched for the briefest of bits before both pulled away, blushing ferociously. It was the first kiss for both.
Jaime gave an awkward smile. "I want you to have this," he said, handing her the stuffed lion he had won earlier.
She smiled. "I'm the girl you like most?"
"The only girl I like," he corrected. "Will you be my girlfriend?"
"You have to dump Melara," was Cersei's reply.
"Of course. So will you?"
"Yes, but no one can ever know."
"Alright." He would argue about the Targaryens later, for now, he was just happy she accepted.
Fireworks continued to shoot off but both twins were more interested in looking at each other. This time it was Cersei who made the move. She kissed him, he kissed back and they shared a longer, better kiss.
"Happy Nameday," she said when they finally pulled away.
"It has been the best one ever," Jaime said.
Would love any feedback. Hope the chars personalities came through well in spite of it being a modern AU and them being kids.
