Chapter 7: Archer
EMIYA walked out of the police station with a cell phone and a substantial amount of cash. He didn't ask how Sherlock got so much disposable income, and he didn't care to ask. In return for the money, he agreed to contact the detective if he runs into any more servants, save for Assassin, who Sherlock had already encountered.
In the meantime, the Archer had nothing better to do other than to look around. He effortlessly hopped up several meters, landing gracefully on a rooftop. He looked around, decided on a destination before bounding off.
Although Shinsou was living on the streets, he found it much better than living with his old foster parents. He quickly warmed up to Atalanta, calling her mom only after a couple days. After all, Atalanta was the closest thing he ever had to a mother. She couldn't provide much in terms of housing and food, but she really cared for the child, and that's what mattered to him.
"Mom?" Shinsou had a concerned look on his face as the woman was sitting on the ground, her back leaning to a wall. She had been rather distant the past day. She still cared for Shinsou, but she was spacing out a lot more.
Is it hunger? The young boy thought. He felt bad not being able to give his caretaker food, even though he knew deep down he could do nothing about it.
"Thy need not worry, young one," Atalanta forced a smile as she placed a hand on the boy's head. "I was just thinking of a way to get us a place to sleep tonight."
"You don't have to worry about me, mom. I'll be fine," Shinsou tried his best to assure the woman. He hated burdening Atalanta. She had done so much for him, and all he was good for was being dead weight. He hated it. He wanted to do something, or at least alleviate his new mother's struggles.
"Nonsense. Thou art only a child," Atalanta pulled Shinsou into a hug. "'Tis okay for thee to be weak. Let the adult be the strong one."
Shinsou didn't know how to reply. He still wasn't used to affection. The first few times Atalanta had hugged the poor boy, he flinched and tried to pull away. Atalanta had been surprisingly understanding with the boy, respecting his boundaries while still gently easing him into her hugs. Even though Shinsou didn't flinch anymore, he still had trouble responding to her hugs. This time, Shinsou hesitantly wrapped his arms around the woman after a couple seconds.
The two hugged for what seemed like minutes when Shinsou felt Atalanta's muscles stiffen. Atalanta pulled away from the hug, a startled expression on her face.
"Mom?" Shinsou started shaking. Did Atalanta not like him anymore? Did she finally realize how evil he was? How eveil his quirk was? What was going to happen now? Would Atalanta—
"Stay close, young one," Atalanta pulled Shinsou close to him and stood up so she was protecting him with her body. She grabbed her bow and knocked a couple arrows before shooting them sky high.
Shinsou didn't have to spend much time wondering what she was doing as a man appeared on the rooftops of one of the buildings they were in between. In speeds that no human could achieve, two swords appeared in the man's hands and he slicked the arrows with deadly precision. The man then kicked the top of the wall, pushing himself downwards. He dashed towards the other building they were in between and kicked off that wall. The man went back and forth until he landed only a few feet away from the two.
"State thy purpose, servant," Atalanta moved in front of Shinsou, making sure he was safely behind her before knocking another arrow. "I will not allow thee to attack this child."
"So you're the other Archer that's been roaming the city," The man said. He held his swords to his side, indicating that he would not attack, but was ready to defend himself at a moment's notice.
"Other Archer?" Atalanta's eyes widened slightly, but she didn't lower her bow and arrow. "Tell me what class thou art."
"Servant: Archer," The man introduced himself. "Since there is more than one Archer around, feel free to call me EMIYA, but I prefer Archer."
"Are we in a Great Holy Grail War?" Atalanta shuddered. She didn't know why she had fragmented memories of the war in Romania, but from what she could put together, it wasn't pretty.
"According to Ruler, we aren't in a holy grail war at all," The now named EMIYA shrugged. Atalanta stiffened at the mention of Ruler. "Speaking of which, he wanted to see you."
"Why should I visit a servant who I am unaware of?" Atalanta asked. Ruler class servants were more trustworthy by the merit of their class, but Atalanta didn't want to take any chances. Not when she was taking care of little Shinsou.
"He'll most likely give you a place to stay, or at least provide you with enough money to get you started," EMIYA said. Atalanta looked back at Shinsou. The boy looked filthy and ha;f-starved. If this Ruler would provide them with a place to stay and some food, then Atalanta's hands were tied.
After a few seconds of tense silence, Atalanta sighed. "Take me to this Ruler."
Dabi didn't expect to wake up on a mattress. Even though the mattress was a bit dirty, he wasn't one to complain.
"You've been out for a while," A voice caused him to sit up swiftly, looking around for the source of the voice. He saw the woman who had approached him the last time he was conscious sitting down on his right.
"Jeanne…" Dabi could barely croak out the word before devolving into a fit of coughs.
"Relax. You've been out for a few days," The woman handed the young man a bottle of water, which Dabi drained in a matter of seconds.
"A few days?!" Dabi almost shouted.
"Didn't I just tell you to relax?" Jeanne growled, causing Dabi to flinch. "Hell, I'm surprised you survived those burns. I did what I could, but it was up to you to heal all that shit."
"I… I see," Dabi looked at his hands. The burns were mostly gone, but there were still a few marks on his arms and legs. They hurt but not as much as they did when he ran away from home. "What happened when I was out."
"Not much. I burned some assholes who tried to hit on me, so we have a few bucks," Jeanne said nonchalantly. "Speaking of which, wanna get a bite to eat?"
"I'm fine," Dabi said. Despite the hunger he felt, he didn't want to burden the woman. What if she got mad? Would she burn him too? Unfortunately, his stomach betrayed him, letting out a rather loud growl.
"Don't be so stiff. I asked, after all," Jeanne said, standing up. "Can you stand?"
"Yeah," Dabi forced himself to his feet. The pain he felt in his legs were unbearable, but he forced himself to persist. After a few seconds, he fell down, only for Jeanne to pick him up.
"Don't lie to me, kid," Jeanne glared at Dabi as she slung his arm around her shoulder. "Until your father burns for his sins, you're my responsibility, so I'll be taking care of you."
"You know, I like your style," Dabi chuckled as he adjusted himself so he was more comfortable. "No more lies."
"Damn straight," Jeacnne said as the two hobbled out of the disgusting trash heap.
"Atalanta," A male voice spoke as soon as the hunter opened the door. "It makes sense you were the one who killed those two. My name is Sherlock Holmes."
Atalanta walked in the office and sat down. She was carrying Shinsou, so when she sat down, he positioned himself so he was sitting on her lap. "What they did to this young boy was unacceptable. If thou wants to retaliate, I shalt respond in kind."
"There's no need for that," Sherlock held his hands up. "As a Ruler, my responsibility is to the servants first before the city. Plus, I have no love for child abusers."
"That is a relief," Atalanta nodded in satisfaction.
"Now, as soon as I heard from EMIYA, you are looking for a home for two," Sherlock said. When Atalanta nodded, he continued, "I started looking for a place. I can pay for the first three months, but you will need to seek employment. EMIYA will help take care of the child while you are at work."
"I will?" EMIYA was leaning on the wall. He was completely silent until that moment, where he stared at the detective.
"I'm paying you to help me with the servants," Sherlock had a cheeky grin on his face as he addressed the nameless Archer. "If that includes babysitting for a servant, then so be it."
"You're going to be the death of me," EMIYA groaned. "Fine, I'll babysit."
"You have my utmost thanks," Atalanta bowed the best she could with Shinsou on her lap. Shinsou, looking at Atalanta, decided to copy her and bowed to the detective.
"It's no problem," Sherlock's smile became more genuine. "Now, let's get you moved in."
Toshinori Yagi was in immense pain. IT had been a year since his battle with All For One and he had tried his best to mitigate the pain in the methods available to him. Even with Recovery Girl's help, he had hit a dead end.
Now, Yagi was en-route to I-Island, the technological capital of the world. His friend, David Shield had called him, telling him that they might have a solution to the grave wounds on his body.
"Now landing at I-Island," The voice of a flight attendant voiced over the speaker. "Please remain seated as the aircraft lands."
Yagi took a deep breath as they landed in the gigantic airport. He had visited the island before, around six months ago, and David was unable to help him. His hopes weren't high, but he still decided to come on the off chance that something was possible. Any chance he could take on being at his peak, he would.
His mind was heavy as he exited the plane and picked up his luggage. The frown that he associated with his skinny form was plastered on his face as he made his way out of the airport.
"Yagi!" The skinny man looked up as he heard his friend's voice. David was running towards him with a smile on his face.
"It's nice to see you, old friend!" Yagi forced as much enthusiasm as he could as he shook David's hand.
"I'm even happier to see you," David's eyes were ecstatic as he looked at Yagi. "You see, just when I was about to pull my hair out trying to find a way to cure you, the perfect man showed up!"
"The perfect man?" Yagi tilted his head in confusion. He then jumped when he heard a booming laugh reverberate across the open space. He looked around and saw a gigantic man walking towards the two. The man was even bigger than All Might in his muscle form. He wore a plate of armor with a star in the middle and his head was that of a white lion's.
"It's rare to see such a patriot in the far east!" The man thundered, an ever present smile on his face. "It is an honor to finally meet you in person, Yagi Toshinori!"
Yagi noted the order the man said his name, with his given name being said first. The man had to be American. "To whom do I owe the pleasure?" Yagi extended his hand to shake.
"Servant: Caster," The man grabbed his hand and shook it eagerly. "My name is Thomas Edison."
A/N: Well, do you like my choice for the first Caster? I thought it would be fitting considering how All Might names all his attacks after US states. Anyways, please continue to leave reviews! I guarantee you that I'm reading all of them and taking them into consideration! Also, keep those servant requests coming! I promise I'm not ignoring you. For all of you requesting Moriarty, I'm still conducting research on him, so I'll be putting him in on a later date.
