Every year, James Potter had a competition with his friends to see who could tie a knot in a cherry stem the fastest. He'd done it every year since 3rd Year, and every year, he asked her to join him. And every single year, she turned him down. Until now. Now, she was uncertain on her feelings about Potter. She had thought that Potter was the worst person in Hogwarts, and for years, she had suppressed her feelings. Now, with Potter maturing, she was not sure about her stance on the matter. But it was just a matter of time. She looked at the watch over the fireplace, and saw that there was only 10 seconds left before the competition. 9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1, and… Potter came bursting into the Common Room through the portrait. "Well Padfoot, I reckon that was a successful prank." Potter tossed over his shoulder. Behind him, Black said "Obviously that was a successful prank, Prongs. Did you see the face on that greasy git when he relized what happened? It was fucking hilarious, mate!" "So, who's up for the contest? Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, you in?" Potter asked his other friends "Obviously, Prongs." Remus, the only Marauder she was on decently good terms with, replied. "Good on ya mate." Potter replied absent minded. Upon seeing her however, his face was split with a broad grin. "Evans! Care to join me this year?" "Fine Potter." She replied. Potter started going of on a tangent about why she should join him but about halfway through the speech he cut himself off and said "Wait, did you say yes?" "I didn't know you were that thick, you prat." She tried to suppress the feeling of warmth coming from deep inside her that had started when Potter smiled at her like that. The arrogant git transfigured 5 cherries into the air. "Right, if I finish before you Evans, than you have to either snog me, or go with me to the 3 Broomsticks." Potter suggested. Lily replied with "Fine, but if I win, than you have to leave me alone for the rest of our time at Hogwarts." "Deal." Black conjured up a count down in front of them, and it started. Time seemed to stretch on a the seconds slowly ticked down. Three, Two, One. And immediately everyone brougt their cherries to their lips. Lily began looping the stem around her tongue as she tried her hardest to tie the knot. She tied the basic knot after 3.754 seconds, but struggled with finalizing the knot. It took her 9 seconds to figure out how to finish the knot, and another 3.246 seconds to completely finish. All in all, 16 seconds to finish the knot. When she looked up however, she saw Potter leaning back in his armchair, looking smug. By Merlin, how had she never noticed how strong that jawline was, and how beautiful his eyes looked in firelight, with an almost ethereal gold glow to them. And those, lips, those beautiful lips, so rosy and perfect, half illuminated. And the way his hair was mussed up did not help with those thoughts at all. But by far, his smile was the most beautiful one she'd ever seen. And as he opened his mouth to gloat, Lily Evans, for the first time in her Five and a half years at Hogwarts, let her feelings and instincts take over regarding James Charlus Potter. She lept onto his lap, and put her lips on his. James closed his mouth in shock, but then hesitantly opened it to let her tongue in. Their tongues battled one another, and Lily moaned into James's mouth. Her hands went to his hair, mussing it up even more, all the while James's roved down her back to her hips, and pulled her closer to him. As Lily pulled away to she whispered in his ear "So, what were you saying about that Hogsmeade date?" He replied with "Just live in the moment, Lils." Before kissing her back. Behind her Sirius was doing some weird demented dance which involved many hip thrusts, Remus looked like he had just seen hell freeze over, and Peter had just fallen out of the chair he was in. Across the common room, Galleons exchanged hands, yet nothing seemed to change for those two children on the armchair, snogging like their life depended on it.
