"Aaaahhh!"
Screams. Chaos. "What is—What's going on?!
"Move! I'll kill you!"
I turned around to find a man sprinting toward me, a backpack in one hand and a kitchen knife in the other. I could hear shrieking. He was coming my way. With a knife. A knife? And at the other end of it...
I felt a burning pain run across my back. My body balled up as it collapsed to the ground, trying to withstand the shock. I couldn't tell what had happened. I wanted to move, but I couldn't.
"Get the hell outta my way!" the man shouted as he ran off.
I watched him go, my back burning. So hot. Beyond anything I'd describe as pain. Did I just get stabbed? Am I gonna die from a stabbing? Holy crap...
I looked up at the strangers watching me. Most were on their phones. And they weren't dialing 9-1-1 for help. They were recording. I was dying, and they were all recording it. What the hell was wrong with them?
Only one man was trying to help. An older man who looked like he was on death's door himself.
"Y-you're bleeding...you won't stop bleeding!"
I'm bleeding? Well, duh. I'm only human. If you stab me, I'll probably bleed all over. Damn, this was starting to hurt though...
Now the burning feeling on my back was starting to fizzle out. Instead, an intense, frigid cold was attacking me from head to toe. That... That's probably bad... People die once they bleed too much, don't they?
I tried to speak. And failed. Shit. I think this might really be it...The pain and the heat were pretty well gone by now. It was just cold. Cold as hell. I felt as if I was gonna freeze in place.
Just then, what remained of my increasingly oxygen-deprived brain cells chanced upon a flash of brilliance. Oh shit! The files on my hard drive!
That was the last thought I had on the mortal plane.

Forrest woke with a gasp, pushing himself up onto all fours and panting deeply. He stared at the mud beneath him as memories flooded his brain.
"What the hell?" he swallowed a lump in his throat.
He lifted one hand out of the mud and reached underneath his shirt, feeling nothing but smooth skin.
That couldn't be right. Forrest could vividly recall the feeling of a Nidoran horn stabbing into his chest and his vision going dark moments later as he bled out and died.
Fucking Team Rocket. And not the harmless criminals like Jessie and James. The members of Team Rocket that caught him on his way back from Pallet Town were a pair of hardened criminals who had no problems murdering a fourteen-year-old kid for his Pokémon.
Assholes.
...Except that couldn't be right either. Yes, he had definitely been attacked, the hole in his shirt was enough to prove that he hadn't been dreaming.
Now he remembered things.
Thing's that made absolutely no sense. Memories of a boy a little older than him, who had been on his way home from school, minding his own business before he got stabbed.
And even stranger—stranger than having the memories of another teenager dying—was the fact that said teenager had memories of watching an "Anime" and playing "video games" called Pokémon.
"What the hell is going on?" Forrest moaned, massaging his pulsing temples.
Flint was still in Pewter City? He had failed to become a "great" Pokémon trainer and instead of returning home to his family, he became a bum selling rocks. Brock had given up his dream of being a Pokémon Breeder to take care of his siblings, and Forrest had followed in his footsteps.
He hadn't left home when he turned ten, and that was four years ago.
Which was another marked difference in the memories he had in his head. In the dead teenager's world, kids weren't considered adults until they were eighteen—eighteen!
In the world of Pokémon, compulsory education ended in primary school. Students were free to continue into middle school if they wish, but when children complete primary school at the age of ten, they are legally considered adults.
Basically, as of the April following a child's tenth birthday they were able to gain a Pokemon License and are permitted to carry Poke Balls to capture Pokemon. Of course, there's more to being a legal adult than the right to own Pokémon.
All adult rights are granted.
Under 18s don't qualify as minors. For example, if Forrest went to a store and stole something, the consequences would be more than just the shopkeeper getting mad at him.
The police would arrest him!
Sighing, Forrest decided it was best to get a move on. He couldn't hang around much longer, who knew if those Team Rocket bastards were still in the area? I'll decide what to do once I'm back in Pewter City, he pushed himself up and groaned.
"Of fucking course!" Forrest rolled his eyes.
He was standing in the middle of a ditch. Those assholes had literally tossed his body in a ditch!
Forrest took a step forward and face-planted back into the mud. "Dammit!" he cursed, screaming at the rain clouds above him. "What the hell—"
He looked back to see what had tripped him. Stuck half in the mud was a Poké Ball.
Did they...? Forrest dug the red and white ball out of the mud. He pressed the button connecting the two halves of the Poké Ball and held it out in front of him. The ball burst open and a ray of red light materialized into a Geodude floating in the air.
"They didn't take you?"
Geodude shook its rocky head. Forrest felt conflicting emotions. On one hand, he was glad Team Rocket hadn't taken his only Pokémon. But on the other, he was pissed that they thought his Geodude was so weak he wasn't worth stealing!
"Fuck those guys!"
We'll show them! Forrest clenched his fist. He had memories of Team Rocket now. And he knew things that no one else in the world knew.
And sure, he could have gone to the authorities. He probably should go to the authorities. But he'd just been killed, and riding the bench while Team Rocket collapsed wouldn't be nearly as satisfying as taking them down himself.
"Let's go, Geodude!" Forrest started off in the direction of Viridian City. "We're going track down every cell of Team Rocket in Kanto and stick my boot up their collective asses!"
And with everything he knew about the world of Pokémon now, he might just register for the Indigo League and become the best trainer in Kanto!
