Ophelia Aster Sage Gilmore wasn't new to the team, she'd been a part of the team since it was initially brought together, but she was always behind the scenes. As it happens, Ophelia had absolutely zero issues being behind the scenes, she preferred it honestly. She was able to walk down the street without being mobbed, and she never had to wear a disguise. It was difficult to hide the giant poof of red curls anyways.
When she had aged out of the foster system at 18, they had helped her find a dump of an apartment and a job. She was grateful for the help getting the job, it gave her a foot in the door to better jobs. The work wasn't hard at most of the jobs she did. She had figured out a long time ago that she was smarter than the teachers and her social workers thought. She had never shown off, just stayed at the top spot in her class, she didn't want the attention, so she started teaching herself. Languages, more complicated math, some coding, she read some engineering and tech development books and as much medical knowledge as she could find.
She couldn't afford college, and she didn't get any of the scholarships that she had applied for, so she decided to get a better job and save up. She had applied to a lot of jobs, even ones she knew she was not qualified for, which was how she had ended up working at Stark Industries.
She ended up getting a job as a personal aide to a department manager, and slowly raised in the ranks until she was an aide to Pepper Potts, which was a huge deal, Pepper was the CEO. She wasn't the only aide, but the pay was amazing, and the work she was asked to do was fairly easy, she was usually asked to read over the newest tech specs to confirm everything looked correct and edited before being sent out to the public.
Ophelia had just been doing her job, she read over the tech specs for a new phone and made sure everything was good to go. It was just a suggestion to change one piece, it would make production smoother and cheaper. When she told Pepper, the additions and notations had been read over she'd been asked to stay in the office while Pepper made a quick phone call. The next thing she knew, Tony Stark walked in. She really didn't know how much her life would change after meeting him.
It had been a shock when Tony had asked her to come with him on a consultation a few weeks later. Getting to watch the Avengers get together was pretty cool, no matter what she said out loud.
After the attack where Loki had escaped, the team had decided to head to New York, Ophelia was dragged along, but told to stay in the jet until Tony came to move her. The office she had been unceremoniously shoved into was bigger than her apartment. Computer screens completely filled one wall, and the desk had 3 stations set up. It was heaven to her nerdy little heart, she quickly set up the comms and got to work planning and keeping the team alive.
Ophelia had been experimented on when she was a child, nobody ever knew who had done it, just that it had happened, she had escaped, and her blood tests were all over the place. She had been found half dead and wandering the forest by a hiker, medics were called and she ended up in the nearest hospital.
Turns out that the voices in her head didn't mean she was crazy, they were everyone else's thoughts. Her powers were intrusive to other people though, it had taken a lot of keeping to herself and practice to get the mind reading under control. She knew she was enhanced in most aspects of her physicality too, running as fast as she did was not normal, nor was the ridiculously fast healing or the strength.
She had taken a lot of measures to make herself as inconsequential as possible, her name had been changed, her hair was chopped off, and she changed the way she dressed and spoke. That had been nearly 10 years ago, she finally had the anonymity she had longed for. Not a single person she worked with, or spent time around knew she had powers.
Tony had asked her to come to this mission debrief with the team…why? She didn't know, they had their hard hitters all going so why would she have to go, it made no sense to her, all they knew about her was that she was strong, fast, and healed quickly.
"It's near Ruse, on the border between Bulgaria and Romania. We need to get into the base-" Tony's debrief was a hum in the background as her chin rested on her propped-up palm.
"Oh yeah, I forgot to mention" Steve started and her eyes dragged to the spangly man "My friend Bucky will be joining us"
"Who the hell is Bucky?" I sat up straight, I was paying slightly more attention now.
All eyes snapped to the door shutting as a handsome dark-haired man stepped into the room. He pulled off his jacket as he made his way next to Steve.
"Me"
Ophelia stared, slightly open-mouthed. He was the single most attractive male she had ever seen, and she lived with Captain America and Thor! He had these baby blue eyes framed by long lashes, a strong jawline, the long hair. Ophelia dropped her gaze off his face to let it trail down his torso and his thighs, the stupid table getting in her way.
Holy god, someone is answering my prayers
"Oh?"
Tony rolled his eyes and snapped at me to focus. Though she would say it was difficult to pull her eyes away from the absolutely fine man in front of her, she did…sort of.
"Focus, yeah, yeah, I'm focused" she muttered, her eyes quickly darting back towards Bucky.
"The mission O, focus on the mission, not Bucky" she blinked a few times and finally snapped her mouth shut. Did she drool? That would be sexy.
"Huh- Right, I'm focused" She shifted so Bucky was still in her periphery, but not directly in front of her. She caught him smirking and turned to raise an eyebrow at him in question. He didn't answer, just let his eyes peruse down her body and back up before slowly licking his bottom lip and biting it.
"Lord have mercy- "She whispered, her mouth going dry. This man was far too attractive for his own good. She could just tell this man was trouble, and she loved a little chaos in her life.
