Elena.

Elena sat in history class thinking about anything but history. She had over a million thoughts running through her head right now. And, she had so many questions that needed to be answered.

What was wrong with Stefan's brother? Was he so sick that he coughed up blood? Where was Stefan? Did the two of them go home? Is Stefan's brother still sick? Is- Elena thought, but got interrupted by someone's voice.

"Miss. Gilbert? Miss. Gilbert?!" A man yelled.

"Yeah?" Elena questioned, snapping back to reality.

"Can you tell me when World War 1 started?" The history teacher asked.

"1943?" Elena guessed.

"Wrong, maybe you should try paying attention Miss. Gilbert," the teacher replied.

"Sorry," Elena apologized.

After history class, it was finally time to go home. Elena speed walked to her house, when she opened the door she was greeted with yelling.

"Seriously Jeremy?!" Jenna yelled.

"Just leave me alone Jenna!" Jeremy screamed. "Stop pestering me!"

"No! You two were entrusted to me, I have to make sure you're not making bad decisions! And right now Jeremy you're making pretty bad decisions!" Jenna responded angrily. While she said that, Elena made her way into the kitchen to stop the fight.

"You're not my Mom!" Jeremy snapped back. And with that the entire kitchen went dead silent. Elena looked up at Jenna and saw she was blinking back tears.

"Jer," Elena whispered. Jeremy turned his back and walked angrily up the stairs, and Elena jumped when she heard how loud Jeremy slammed the door to his bedroom. "Jenna," Elena said in just over a whisper.

"Just," Jenna choked. "Just please leave me alone," she said, walking out of the kitchen. Elena guessed Jenna most likely went to her room when she heard a door close.

Oh god, what is this family going to do? Elena thought. This family was falling apart and no matter how hard any of them tried to hold it together, it just wasn't working.

Elena went up to her room and dropped her backpack on her bed. After that Elena marched right to Stefan's house. She was about halfway there when she realized something.

I don't even know where Stefan lives. She thought in her mind. So she asked the first person she saw for directions to the Salvatore boarding house.

"It's just down this road, and across the bridge," the old lady Elena asked, said. "You should see it when you cross the bridge, it's gated,"

"Okay, thank you!" Elena responded happily, running in the directions the old woman told her.

She crossed the bridge and saw a very tall black gate. She figured this must be the Salvatore boarding house. This house looked very old, and it was massive. So, Elena could tell it was definitely one of the founding families' houses. It looked like if someone touched it the beautiful yet fragile structure would collapse. Elena slowly opened the gate and it let out a creaking sound as it opened. After that Elena walked across the long driveway and to the giant wood door. She knocked on the door, and waited. After about a minute Stefan opened the door.

"Oh hey Elena," Stefan greeted. Elena noticed immediately that Stefan didn't look so happy.

"Hey," she replied.

"I'm making tea if you want some?" Stefan questioned.

"Thanks," Elena answered happily, walking into the house. Stefan shut the door. Elena looked back at Stefan and he had one of his fingers over his lips, signaling for her to be quiet. The two of them walked into the kitchen together. Elena sat down at the island. "So, how is your brother?" Elena asked quietly.

"He's sleeping right now," Stefan responded.

Elena gave him a look that read "tell me more please".

"He stopped coughing up blood for the most part. He has a couple of times since school, but not much anymore," he explained. "I forced him to sleep," Stefan's eyes glossed over as if something very bad happened. "I think he'll be alright tomorrow," he paused. Elena nodded.

"So, how are you?" Elena asked, changing the subject.

"My day was pretty shitty," he laughed weakly. "That is until right now," Stefan replied, giving Elena a smile. Elena felt her cheeks turn red. "And you know what would make my day even better?" He questioned.

"What?" Elena asked, taking a step closer to Stefan.

"If the girl I like would kiss me," Stefan said.

"Who's this girl? Maybe it could be arranged?" Elena questioned, letting out a little laugh. Stefan laughed too.

Elena felt her heart pounding out of her chest when she was face to face with Stefan. Stefan leaned forwards and met Elena's lips. He kissed her softly at first and then the kiss turned into a very passionate kiss. Elena wanted this moment to last forever. She loved Stefan so much. But then Elena pulled away after she realized something. Elena saw that Stefan looked surprised.

"It's just," Elena paused. "Everything I touch falls apart, I don't want that to happen," Elena told Stefan. Stefan nodded in understanding.

"I feel like that too," Stefan responded. "Maybe we can deal with that feeling together?" Stefan questioned.

"Okay," Elena responded, leaning in to place her lips on his. They kissed each other so passionately that it felt like nothing really mattered anymore. All of Elena's pain disappeared and was replaced by a sudden happiness that she wasn't sure she had ever felt in her life. They pulled away when Elena heard her phone ring. She had gotten a text message from Jenna.

"Where are you? Please come back." It read.

"Who is it?" Stefan asked. Elena could tell he was unsure if he should ask or not.

"Just my Aunt Jenna," Elena explained. "I got to go," she apologized. Stefan nodded understandingly.

"Oh okay," Stefan looked unhappy again.

"Unless," she paused. Stefan cocked an eyebrow. "Do you want to come with me?" Elena asked.

"Yeah sure that sounds fun!" Stefan replied smiling. Elena grabbed his wrist but she felt Stefan hesitate. Elena looked back up at Stefan. He was looking worriedly at the roof, as if something was upstairs.

"What's wrong?" Elena questioned.

"I'm sorry, I can't come, Elena," Stefan apologized. Elena had a confused expression on her face. "I can't just leave my brother," he explained.

"He'll be okay," Elena reassured. "Plus it will only be for like an hour," Elena stated. Elena looked at Stefan's expression. He looked like he was having a brutal internal battle at the moment. Elena waited patiently for about a minute before Stefan made up his mind.

"Okay," he said hesitantly. "Okay," he repeated. He looked back up at the roof before speaking again. "I'm just going to check on him real quickly," Stefan told Elena. Elena nodded, and Stefan ran up the stairs. Stefan returned in about 2 minutes. "He looks okay," Stefan stated. "I left him a note telling him where I am, and gave him my number just in case he needs to call me," he explained.

"That's good," Elena paused. "Are you ready to go?" She questioned.

"Yes," Stefan answered.

"Okay come on," Elena said happily. She grabbed his wrist and the two of them walked to Elena's house. After about 5 minutes they reached the front door of her house. Elena opened the door, and walked inside, but Stefan remained outside.

What is he doing? She thought.

"Stefan are you coming?" Elena asked. But still Stefan remained outside, his forest green eyes staring blankly into her chocolate brown ones. "You can come in Stefan," Elena said in a confused tone. After that Stefan walked into the house.

"Thanks," he smiled weakly.

That's polite, I guess. Elena thought. She pushed this thought aside though.

"Hey Elena," Jenna greeted. "Where were-" Jenna cut herself off when she saw Stefan standing beside Elena. "Who's this?" Jenna questioned, eyeing Stefan up and down.

"I'm Stefan Salvatore," he greeted. "It's very nice to meet you,"

Jenna cocked an eyebrow, and gave Elena a look that read "this is the, Stefan!"

Elena nodded. "Can Stefan stay for dinner?" Elena asked Jenna.

"Yeah of course," Jenna answered. "Elena, can you help me please?" Jenna asked.

"Yeah sure," Elena responded, looking back at Stefan, giving him a look that read "you can sit down if you want". So Stefan followed Elena into the kitchen, and then he sat down at the table next to a very unfriendly looking Jeremy. While Elena went into the kitchen with Jenna.

"Can you cut these carrots?" Jenna asked.

"Yeah," Elena answered, grabbing a knife and dumping the carrots on the cutting board.

"And also when you're done can you cut the onions?" Jenna questioned. "I got to go get something," Jenna said, running upstairs. Elena nodded, as she saw Stefan stand up. He walked over to the kitchen.

"I feel guilty just sitting while you guys are cooking," he paused. "So, do you need help with anything?" Stefan questioned.

"Yeah sure. You can start cutting these onions," Elena suggested. Stefan nodded and grabbed the knife that was next to Elena. About 30 seconds later Elena cut herself with the knife. She gasped in pain, and put her other hand on her wrist to inspect the damage.

"What-" Stefan started, looking at Elena. He stared in horror at Elena's cut.

"It's fine, it's just a little cut," Elena laughed. Stefan whipped his head in the opposite direction and walked towards the little window in the kitchen. "Stefan?" Elena questioned, walking over to the boy.

She looked at the window to see Stefan's reflection. But the reflection didn't look like it belonged to Stefan at all. His eyes were completely black, they looked like an empty abyss. They made Elena shiver. There were black veins that ran just under his eyes. Stefan's teeth were pointed, but she ignored it because she thought she was hallucinating. She shook her head and didn't see the teeth anymore, but she still saw the haunting eyes. His face was also contorted in fear.

"Stefan, y-y-your eyes," Elena stuttered. Stefan put his hands over his eyes.

"Yeah I know, it's the onions. My eyes are sensitive," Stefan laughed. Stefan looked back at Elena and she saw that his eyes were normal.

Wow I really am losing it. Elena thought, shaking her head.

"You should probably clean that up," Stefan stated. Elena didn't miss the fact that Stefan was looking anywhere but at her hand.

Weird. Elena thought. She walked over to the sink and washed it out, after that she just put a bandaid over top of it, because she was too lazy to do anything else. When she came back from the bathroom, the food was already on the table. Elena figured that Stefan and Jenna had finished it together. Elena sat across from Jenna and beside Stefan.

"Thank you for the dinner Ms. Gilbert," Stefan thanked.

"You're welcome. And you can call me Jenna," Jenna responded. "So how's school?" Jenna asked.

"Good. It's been good," Elena responded.

"What about you Stefan?" Jenna asked.

"It's confusing," Stefan laughed. "But I think I'm getting it," he said.

"That's good. What about you Jer?"

"It's okay," Jeremy grumbled. After that everyone at the table went silent and ate the rest of their food. Elena was still thinking about Stefan's eyes.

I swear to god I saw it? Elena thought. Once Stefan finished eating, he stood up.

"Well I think I should be going now," Stefan said. "Thank you for having me," he thanked. Elena stood up and walked him to the door.

"Thank you for coming," Elena said.

"You're welcome," Stefan replied. Bending his neck to plant a kiss on her forehead.

"See you at school," Elena told Stefan.

"Yeah same," Stefan replied. Elena then shut the door. As soon as Stefan left Elena went right up to her room. Once she was in her room she went straight to her desk and turned on her computer.

She typed "Stefan Salvatore" into her computer. Something came up and Elena was surprised.

"Stefan Salvatore, heir of the Salvatore family" and "Is Stefan Salvatore going to receive the key to the city?" and the last one shocked Elena. "Animal attack? Or is it a vampire attack? Stefan Salvatore covers it up as an animal attack, is he lying?" Elena read the date on these articles; they were all set around 1860-1870.

She clicked on the animal attack article. There was a black and white picture of caution tape and a male body that was torn to shreds. Elena felt sick looking at the body. To Elena's demise she decided to inspect the body closer. She saw most of the blood was coming from the corpse's neck. Elena decided she wasn't going to look at the body anymore when she saw the person's eyes were gouged out. Elena looked at the rest of the picture, finding absolutely nothing. As she was about to scroll down she saw a person standing around the corner of the building. She zoomed in on this person and her eyes widened in horror when she saw this person looked exactly like Stefan. Stefan had what Elena figured was blood running down his face.

How is this possible? Elena thought. After about a minute of thinking Elena connected all the dots. His eyes went all weird when I accidentally cut myself. He's in this picture from over 100 years ago. Most of the blood from the corpse was coming from the neck. Elena thought. Stefan. He's a vampire. She thought in horror. Elena quickly ran out of her room and down the stairs.

"Jenna! I'm going out!" She yelled.

"Okay. But keep it down, Jeremy is sleeping," Jenna whispered.

"Oh okay, bye," Elena replied quickly. Elena threw open the door and closed it very quickly. She then ran all the way to the Salvatore boarding house. She knocked on the door very hard. And within seconds the door swung open.

"Elena?" Stefan questioned.

"What are you?!" Elena screamed in pure terror.
