Please review. It helps me so much! Thank you!
Elena.
Elena woke up to the sound of her alarm clock. She turned her alarm off and groggily walked into her bathroom to get ready. She put on a blue tight long sleeve shirt, and a pair of black leggings. Elena opened the door of her room, to be immediately met by Jeremy. Jeremy was standing right in front of Elena's door with one hand in the air. It looked like Jeremy was contemplating knocking on the door but never got the chance to.
"Oh, hey Jer!" Elena gasped.
"Hey, Elena," Jeremy sighed nervously.
"What's up?" Elena asked sympathetically.
"Well, I was just wondering if you could help me with my homework?" Jeremy asked quickly.
Jeremy doing homework? Elena questioned in her head. Jeremy hasn't done anything for school since their parents died. He just really didn't care about school. It was at the very bottom of his priority list.
"Of course Jer. What do you need help with?" Elena smiled.
"Some report on Rome for social studies,"
"Okay!" Elena replied. The two siblings walked down the stairs and sat at the dinner table.
"Hey, you two," someone said from the kitchen.
"Goodmorning, Jenna," Elena greeted.
"What are you guys doing?" Jenna questioned suspiciously.
"Homework," Jeremy grumbled. Jenna's mouth fell wide open.
"Umm, that was not what I was expecting you to say," Jenna laughed. "Good for you Jer," she added. Jeremy just sighed and looked back down at his page. Jenna made direct eye contact with Elena and mouthed "Jeremy is doing homework!" and then she made an excited gesture with her hands. Elena let out a small laugh and quickly turned her attention back to helping her 15 year old brother with his homework. After about an hour of helping Jeremy, his report was finally done.
"See that wasn't that hard!" Elena smiled.
"Yeah, I guess," Jeremy said. "Thank you, Elena," Jeremy smiled. This caused Elena's eyes to gloss over because she hadn't seen Jeremy smile in so long.
"You're welcome," Elena laughed softly, pulling Jeremy into a hug. Jeremy looked shocked at first but then almost immediately melted into the hug. They hugged for a while until Jenna came into the kitchen and said something.
"Aww," Jenna said. Elena and Jeremy pulled apart and they both gave Jenna dirty looks. Elena looked down at her watch and saw it read "8:55".
"Oh my god!" Elena gasped.
"What?" Jeremy asked in a confused voice, as he watched Elena scramble to get her things.
"It's 8:55!" Elena practically yelled.
"Shit!" Jeremy said, quickly grabbing his report and shoving it into his backpack.
"Language, Jer!" Elena managed to say, in the mass scramble.
"Oh wow, what a great aunt I am," Jenna joked, watching the two teenagers scramble across the house, grabbing random things and shoving them into their backpacks. "I was just going to let you guys be late," she shrugged. Jenna let out a small laugh when she saw Jeremy pick up a plate and shove it into his backpack. "Jer, what are you using that plate for? A science project?" Jenna mocked. Jeremy turned red in embarrassment and quickly took the plate out of his backpack. He threw the plate onto the table and Elena thought that it would have broken, but surprisingly it didn't.
Elena and Jeremy practically ran all the way to school.
"See you at home Jer!" Elena yelled, waving goodbye to Jeremy, and running down the hall to her class. She had English with Bonnie. Elena opened the door of the English classroom and when she walked in everyone was staring at her.
"You're late Miss. Gilbert," the teacher said.
"Sorry," Elena apologized, taking her seat next to Bonnie.
"What took you so long?" Bonnie whispered to Elena, as the teacher resumed class.
"I was helping Jeremy with a report," Elena responded quietly.
"Oh," Bonnie said quietly. The two girls sat in silence until Bonnie whispered something else to Elena. "Hey, can I tell you something,"
"Yeah, sure, what's up?" Elena questioned in just over a whisper.
"Grams keeps telling me that our family is a part of some sort of ancestry of witches," Bonnie explained. Elena cocked an eyebrow.
Witches are real? Elena questioned in her head. For all I know, they could be. I literally have a vampire as a boyfriend. Anything is believable now. She thought vigorously.
"And, I keep having these nightmares," Bonnie paused. "It's always the same one," she continued. "It's just three numbers that just keep repeating over and over again. The numbers were 8, 14, and 22," Bonnie explained. "Grams says it has to do with my link to witches," Bonnie laughed. "But witches aren't real," she told Elena. Elena laughed slightly. She was definitely going to have to bring this up with Stefan.
For the rest of class Elena and Bonnie talked to each other while the teacher was talking and worked on a project that they had to do. Finally it was time for lunch. Elena and Bonnie rushed out of that classroom as fast as they could. The two girls walked down to the cafeteria and paid for their lunch together. Bonnie and Elena went to sit at the table they always sat at, and they saw Caroline and Stefan were already there.
"Hey!" Elena greeted, sitting next to Stefan.
"Oh, hi," Stefan said, looking at Elena. "How are you?" Stefan questioned.
"Good," Elena paused. "But Jeremy and I were late for school because I had to help him with a report on Rome," Elena explained. "When we realized we were late Jeremy was grabbing his things, and accidentally put a plate in his backpack," Elena laughed. Stefan laughed too. Elena watched Stefan look back and immediately meet someone's gaze from the tables nearby.
This person was a boy that was surrounded by a bunch of girls. He was the most handsome boy Elena had ever seen in her entire life. He had dark brown hair, and ice cold eyes. He looked like he was from a movie. But in the little glimpse that Elena got of this boy she saw he looked extremely stressed, and he had dark bags under his eyes. Elena didn't know if she was hallucinating or not, but she saw that his bones were sticking out along his jawline. It made Elena sick. But the boy quickly looked away when Stefan and him made direct eye contact.
That's Stefan's brother right? Elena thought.
"Hold on. I have to go deal with something," Stefan stated. He stood up and started walking towards his brother. Elena watched intently as Stefan placed his hand on the older boy's shoulder. In a couple of seconds all of the girls left the table and Stefan sat down besides his brother. Elena tried to listen to what they were talking about but she couldn't hear them so she decided to listen to what her friends were saying.
"I saw Matt at the grocery store yesterday," Caroline said.
"Really?" Elena replied. Matt was her ex, but they really have tried their best to be friends since then. "Matt was-" Elena started but immediately got interrupted by somebody suddenly yelling.
"Why aren't you eating, Damon?!" This person yelled. Elena snapped her head in the direction of the sudden change of tone. Elena saw it was Stefan that had yelled. Stefan's older brother looked around embarrassingly.
"Stop babying me!" Damon yelled back at Stefan. "I don't need your help!" He snapped back.
"I care about you Damon! I just want to help!" Stefan reassured his brother loudly.
"Stop caring about me!" Damon yelled back. "Because I don't care about you!" Damon snapped angrily. Stefan immediately went dead silent. Elena's eyes widened.
What a jerk. Why would he say that to Stefan? Elena thought vigorously.
Stefan said a few things to Damon quietly. And Elena saw Damon look away quickly. "Just leave me alone!" Damon yelled, losing his temper. Stefan's older brother stomped away furiously. Stefan just sat at the table and stared down at the ground for what seemed like hours until Elena decided to approach him.
"Hey, are you okay?" Elena asked, putting her hand on his shoulder.
"Yeah," Stefan mumbled, blinking back tears.
"Oh, Stefan," Elena comforted, sitting down next to the vampire. "It's going to be okay," she soothed, bringing Stefan in for a hug.
"I didn't think Damon didn't care about me," Stefan said, his voice breaking, as Elena rubbed circles on his back.
"I don't think he means that," Elena comforted.
"Maybe," Stefan cried. "He was gone for so long. I haven't seen him in 150 years," he choked. "It hurts so much to know that he doesn't care," Stefan told Elena.
"I know," Elena comforted.
"I missed him so much," Stefan cried. Elena just sighed and kept rubbing circles on the crying vampires back. When Stefan stopped crying he finally spoke. "Well I should get to class," he choked. Elena nodded sadly, and Stefan walked away. Elena walked back over to the table where Bonnie and Caroline were.
"What was that about?" Caroline asked Elena when she got back to the table. "That was such a jerk move," Caroline added, but she also looked like she was happy about it. "Like what's his problem with Stefan?" Caroline questioned, twirling her hair with her fingers.
"I don't even know," Elena stated. "Apparently Damon's super sick and Stefan just wants to help his brother, but Damon won't let him," Elena explained. "That's at least what Stefan told me," Elena told the two girls.
"Oh," Bonnie and Caroline said in unison.
"Well I think everyone in the cafeteria heard that fight," Caroline laughed.
"Yeah, poor Stefan," Elena said.
"You think poor Stefan?" Bonnie paused. "I say poor Damon," Bonnie continued. Elena and Caroline gave Bonnie confused looks. "The guy won't eat, and he's trying to hide it from his brother," Bonnie paused, looking as if she was deep in thought. "Wait," Bonnie said slowly. "I saw Damon in line for food, but then he looked in his pockets and left the line," she explained.
"So, you're thinking he doesn't have any money?" Elena asked, cocking an eyebrow.
"That's exactly what I'm thinking," Bonnie replied.
"That makes so much sense," Caroline said.
"It does," Elena added. "Well I have to go tell Stefan about this!" Elena yelled, already running away from her two best friends. "See you guys at class!" Elena waved. Elena ran down the hall and finally spotted Stefan who looked absolutely miserable. "Stefan!" Elena yelled. Stefan turned around and smiled when he saw Elena.
"Hey Elena," Stefan said.
"Bonnie and I," Elena said, definitely out of breath. "We figured out why your brother isn't eating," she told Stefan.
"Why?" Stefan questioned hesitantly. He acted like he wasn't sure if he actually wanted to hear the answer or not.
"He doesn't have any money," Elena explained.
"How? The Salvatore family is rich," Stefan answered.
"You said he just got back in town right?" Elena asked. Stefan nodded to answer her question. "Well Bonnie saw him in line for food, and then she saw him check his pockets," Elena told Stefan. Stefan cocked an eyebrow curiously. "And then he left the line," she added. Elena saw Stefan's eyes light up with understanding.
"So, you think that he doesn't have any money, because he just got back in town?" Stefan questioned.
"Yes,"
"That makes so much sense," Stefan whispered, taking a piece of paper, a pen, and a little gray pouch out of his backpack. He wrote something on the piece of paper and opened the little pouch. He pulled out a roll of dollar bills. "Do you know where Damon's locker is?" Stefan asked Elena. She shook her head, and Stefan let out a stressed sigh. "I'll look around,"
"Okay," Elena replied. Elena started walking away until she heard someone yell her name from behind her.
"And Elena?" Stefan questioned loudly, causing Elena to then face him again. "Thank you for helping me with Damon," Stefan paused. "It really means a lot to me that he's okay," Stefan told Elena sadly.
"Anytime Stefan," Elena nodded. She then turned to start heading to her next class. She had Social Studies with Caroline. Elena walked to the classroom and took her seat next to Caroline.
"Hey!" Caroline exclaimed.
"Hi," Elena greeted.
"Did you talk to Stefan about his brother?" Caroline questioned.
"Yeah, I think Stefan put it in Damon's locker," Elena stated.
"That's good," Caroline replied. Elena nodded and started focusing on what the teacher was talking about. "Hey, you know the back to school party that's tonight?" Caroline whispered to Elena.
"Yeah," she replied quietly.
"I get to plan it!" Caroline exclaimed.
"Oh cool!" Elena replied, trying to sound enthusiastic. She honestly didn't really care about what Caroline was doing, she was extremely worried about Stefan. Elena didn't care about a stupid party, she had enough on her mind as it is.
"Yeah I know!" She said enthusiastically. "Who are you going to go with?" Caroline questioned.
"I don't know if I'm even going to go," Elena explained.
"Oh, come on Elena!" Caroline sighed dramatically. "You should ask Stefan," she told Elena. "Plus everyone's going," she paused. "And also I know exactly who I'm going to ask!" She added, turning the situation back to herself.
Caroline was like that, she thought the world revolved around her sometimes. It annoyed Elena at times but Caroline was her best friend. What could she do?
"Who?" Elena questioned.
"You'll just have to wait and see!" She squealed. Elena just let out an annoyed sigh. After 2 and a half hours of boring Social Studies, it was finally time to go home. Elena started walking out of the school but she ran into someone.
"Get out of my way!" This person yelled. Elena saw that it was Stefan's brother, Damon, that she had run into.
"Sorry," Elena mumbled.
"It's okay, darling," Damon winked. Elena sighed in annoyance. But then she looked up at Damon and furrowed her brows together.
"You're Stefan's brother, right?" Elena asked sadly, just making sure that she was talking to the right person. Damon let out a frustrated sigh.
"Yeah, I am," he groaned, in annoyance.
"Oh," Elena paused. "Stefan has talked about you a lot," Elena told Damon. Elena saw Damon cocked an eyebrow at this comment. Elena looked down at the floor and then back up at Damon. Elena remembered the thing that Stefan had told her about Damon. "Your parents?" Elena questioned. Elena saw Damon tense immediately. "Stefan told me that your parents died," she told Damon. Elena saw Damon flinch when she said the word "died". His eyes widened in horror and he immediately looked away from Elena. He looked back up at Elena and his crystal blue eyes were now a darker blue color and looked so far away, as if he was remembering something. Elena immediately felt terrible for causing the vampire to relive something horrendous in his past. "I'm so sorry," Elena whispered. Damon shook his head, and Elena saw his eyes were glossed over.
"Why?" Damon paused. "It was so long ago, I'm over it. It doesn't matter," Damon replied sadly.
"Stefan told me that you didn't eat or sleep when they died," Elena sighed sadly, meeting Damon's eyes. Damon's eyes widened again, and turned dark blue with hatred. Elena was all of a sudden extremely curious about what he had gone through in his life. But she shook her head and told herself that she barely knew this guy. But something drew her towards him, something drew her to know more. Something about Damon made her want to know him, so badly. Damon shook his head, and Elena guessed it was because he was trying to get the bad memories out of his head. "Stefan said that you really scared him," Elena told him sadly. Elena saw just how angry Damon looked. "Stefan told me all this because he was trying to help me," Elena responded, trying to reassure his angry expression.
"Well, Stefan can go to hell," Damon spat bitterly through gritted teeth. Elena's eyes widened, and Damon walked away.
Why would he say that? Elena thought vigorously, watching the 171 year old vampire stomp away. What a jerk. Stefan's just trying to help. Why can't Damon figure that out? Elena said in her mind. She shook her head forcing herself to stop thinking about the enraged vampire. Elena walked home and didn't even run into Stefan which she thought was worrying since they always walk home together. She walked straight to Stefan's house, she needed to make sure he was okay. She knocked on the giant wood door once she arrived and she was surprised to see that it wasn't Stefan who answered the door. Elena was immediately met with blue eyes.
"This is the Salvatore Boarding house, please come back when we want to talk to you. And that's never. Leave your message at the beep," Damon groaned in annoyance, looking at Elena. Elena saw there were red rings under his eyes, but she shook it off. "Beep!" He exclaimed groggily, as if he had just woken up from a well needed sleep. He then started to close the door in Elena's face.
"Wait!" She yelled. He cocked an eyebrow, leaving the door open just enough so she could see one of his eyes. "I'm here to see Stefan," she told him.
"Yeah I know. And I don't care. Now go away," he replied, shutting the door in her face.
"Damn you!" She screamed. Elena knocked on the door again furiously.
"I said go away. Do you not speak English?" Damon snapped sarcastically. "I," he started slowly, pointing at himself. "Said," he said slowly. He put his hand up to his mouth. "Go away," he pronounced, pointing in the direction far far away from the Salvatore Boarding house.
Elena let out an annoyed laugh. "Haha, very funny," she sighed in annoyance. "Just let me see Stefan!" She demanded.
"It's not very smart to order an enraged vampire around," he told Elena, smiling evilly. Elena slowly backed away from him when she saw that he looked psychotic. He opened the door and started walking towards Elena. Elena trembled as he got nearer. "I said go away!" He laughed hysterically. Elena thought he was going to kill her. He pinned her against one of the pillars, and Elena thought it was the end for her until she heard someone yell Damon's name.
"Damon!" A male voice barked angrily. "Back off!" It was Stefan. Stefan grabbed the angry vampire's arm and pulled him close to him. Stefan whispered something in Damon's ear. Something that sounded like. "She's not Katherine,"
Who's Katherine? Elena thought but she just let it go. Damon just smiled, hit Stefan on the shoulder, and walked back into the house.
"I'm so sorry about him," Stefan apologized.
"I can hear you!" Damon yelled from inside. "That's very rude!"
"Shut the hell up Damon!" Stefan yelled back. "What did he do?" Stefan asked in annoyance.
"He just told me to go away and then started to walk towards me. He looks like a psychopath," Elena shuddered.
"Oh, I'm so sorry," Stefan mumbled. "I'll talk to him about it," he added. "So what are you doing here?" Stefan questioned.
"I just wanted to make sure you were okay," Elena admitted.
"I'm okay. We haven't had time to talk about it. He's still furious at me," Stefan stated sadly. "But, on a happier note. I was going to come to your house to do this but since you're here, I'll do it right now," Stefan paused, and took something out of his pocket. Elena saw it was a rose. "Will you come to the back to school party with me?" Stefan asked, giving Elena the rose.
"Of course!" Elena blushed, taking the rose. "Well I gotta get ready for this party then!" Elena exclaimed. Stefan nodded.
"See you tonight!" Stefan replied happily, walking back into his house. Before Stefan shut the door Elena heard Damon say something to Stefan.
"It took you that long to ask Elena? I had to choose between the 34 girls that asked me," Damon mocked. Stefan just groaned and shut the door. Elena skipped to her house happily. She went into her room and immediately called Bonnie and Caroline.
"Guys! I don't know what to wear to the back to school party!" Elena screamed.
"You're going?' Caroline asked curiously.
"Yes, Stefan asked me," Elena stated as though it was obvious.
"Okay?" Bonnie said in a confused tone.
"Okay, so green or purple?" Elena asked, holding up a long green dress and a short purple one.
"Green," Caroline and Bonnie answered in unison.
"Okay, thank you guys!" Elena exclaimed. "Now I have to go!" Elena quickly hung up on her two best friends when they said 'goodbye'. Elena changed into the green dress. It was an absolutely stunning long dark forest green dress. It was sleeveless and had gems all around the edges of it. Elena then put on black gloves, and curled her hair. Elena thought she looked like a princess. A couple of minutes after she was done getting dressed she heard a knock at the door.
"Coming!" She yelled. But she saw that Jenna had beat her to the door.
"Ooh, are those for me?" Jenna blushed. Elena quickly walked down the stairs. Jenna then laughed and moved away from the door.
Stefan looked so handsome it almost knocked the breath out of Elena. He was wearing a black suit with a navy blue tie. His light brown hair was brushed to perfection. He was wearing black gloves as well. Elena blushed when she saw he was holding a bouquet of roses.
"Aww, Stefan, you didn't have to do that," Elena exclaimed, giving the vampire a hug.
"It's the least I can do to show how much you mean to me," Stefan replied lovingly, handing the roses to Elena.
"Thank you so much!" Elena thanked. "I love them," Elena said. "How did you know roses are my favorites?" Elena questioned, while she admired the massive bouquet.
"I have my ways," Stefan laughed.
"Make sure you bring her back by 11:00," Jenna interjected.
"Jenna!" Elena exclaimed, embarrassingly. "Bye!" She yelled, shutting the door behind her and Stefan. "Don't mind Jenna, she's just trying to embarrass me," Elena laughed.
"Don't worry, I'll make sure to bring you back by 11:00," Stefan joked. Elena laughed at this comment. But Stefan stopped walking in the middle of the road. Elena stopped and looked back at the vampire. Stefan was digging in one of his pockets. Elena cocked an eyebrow curiously. "I got you this," he stated, pulling out a little purple box. Stefan handed Elena the box and Elena opened it slowly. She gasped when she saw it was a beautiful necklace. It was oval shaped with zig zags that looked like thorns. In the middle was a tiny purple circle that reminded Elena of a flower.
"This is so beautiful, Stefan," Elena gaped. Stefan nodded and walked closer to Elena, pulling her into a kiss. They pulled apart and Elena spoke up. "Can you help me put it on?" She questioned. Stefan laughed and walked behind Elena. Elena moved her hair to the side, and Stefan put the beautiful necklace on her neck. Elena and Stefan then took each other's hands and walked to the school since that's where the party was being held. And Elena's house wasn't too far from the school. Stefan opened the door for Elena and the two of them walked into the gym together.
It was a world of chaos in there. There were 'welcome back TimberWolves!' posters everywhere. There was a giant table for food, and the dance floor was ginormous. There were two giant speakers at the front of the room that were blasting music. The dance floor was crowded with people. Elena looked around to see if she could see anyone she knew. She saw Caroline dancing with some boy. He was facing his back towards Elena. He spun Caroline around and after that Caroline pushed him to face the direction of Elena and Stefan. Elena's eyes widened in horror when she saw Caroline's date to the dance was none other then Stefan's murderous vampire older brother, Damon Salvatore.
