CHAPTER 3

Kai's POV

It barely took 3 complete rings from my alarm to wake me up. I woke up and was pretty satisfied that I had slept well. This was a rarity for me. I was a light sleeper and prided myself as the early bird. There's nothing like that calm feeling in the morning when the rest of the 'Kiddo gang ' is asleep and the only sound is Tyson's annoying snores. (There's a reason why the other Blade breakers don't complain when I use force to wake that idiot up. Anyone would lose their patience hearing that screech Tyson calls a snore)

I was glad that I could stick to my routine even in this new place. I glanced around and was dumbstruck when I noticed the bed next to mine was empty.

What on earth was Ivanov doing at 4 in the morning?

As if to answer my question, Tala walked out of the bathroom. He was already dressed in his white jumpsuit. The bright orange and blue stripes suited him. I had seen many people who looked ghoulish in such clothes, but Tala pulled off the look like a supermodel. His red hair was pulled down. It made his blue eyes stand out.

He was undoubtedly beautiful.

"You have 10 minutes to get ready, Hiwatari. We have to eat breakfast and report for drills at 4:30."

He went to full captain mode and tried to order me.

From when have I started taking orders from bossy redheads? Well, I haven't.

I pulled my blanket up and turned on my back and yawned. Then I pretended to sleep.

" I could watch that cute sleeping face of yours all day, but unfortunately we have the training to do."

.

.

What was happening? I was fully awake now. I didn't let my surprise show and kept pretending to be asleep. But I could feel his stare on me. My skin tingled a bit... I was expecting Tala to start yelling and go calling for Boris like a baby. There was silence and I faked sleepy eyes and looked up. Tale was beginning to leave. He just said, "5 more minutes Hiwatari"

When he was gone, I got ready in seconds. I was fueled with anger. What did that Ivanov think he was? I took Black Dranzer and decided to show him his place at today's practice. Despite the rage, I had to admit that tala was... Interesting

Boris made us take 15 laps around the large abbey yard. Then he made us do 200 pushups. I was in pretty good shape, but it had been a while since I had worked out so much. So, I was glad when he allowed us to disperse back to our locker rooms. Ian told me that the room was more like a storeroom for personalized bey parts. the scientists here frequently examined us and made new parts that would help us in different levels of combat. I opened my rack and wasn't surprised to see that it was empty save for some normal attack rings, which could come in handy if I broke mine during practice. The scientists had just tested me yesterday, and I still remember their astounded expressions when they saw my control over black Dranzer. I almost closed the door, but I noticed that there was something shiny in the corner of the dark chamber. I pulled it out.

It was a rectangular box covered with a silver wrapper. There wasn't a single word written on it.

This was suspicious. I glanced at my watch and saw that it was time for the next round of training. I slipped the box into my bag and went to the west wing for training. Hopefully, I'd get to kick that Ivanov's ass.

I walked through the hallways of the abbey feeling worse than I had ever done. I didn't get to fight anyone today. Instead, I had to call out black Dranzer and use her power in a 'specially designed' container. That glass tube shattered before the real game began. I felt a bit drained, so I was taking a stroll on the upper level of the abbey. I was wearing a black hoodie that covered most of my hair, only revealing the front silver bangs. My eyes were glowing amethyst with the black phoenix's energy. I was connecting with her at an unimaginable pace. I knew her feelings so well… the feeling of being contained for so many years... Being chained all alone because our creators couldn't handle the monster they made… The anger we felt when someone tried to tame our wild hearts… Everything was a perfect sync. Yet my old friend Dranzer still hasn't left me. Her voice is getting feebler each time I use my new companion, still, she refuses to leave.

It felt nice being out. The upper level didn't have many guards and Boris has made every effort to make it look like a normal boy's orphanage. The level where I was kept was the lowest. It was colder and suffocatingly cramped. No place for a firebird.

I was happily watching the snow fall when two kids bumped into me. They were playing something in the corridor. "sorry'' one of them said. But the damage was already done. I felt hot white rage bubbling in me and was about to hit the brat. But my conscience stopped me at the last moment.

What was I doing? It wasn't like me to react so much to something this petty. before I could lose my calm and end up doing something I would later regret, I rushed to my room.

It was empty. Tala was probably messing with the others. I kicked my shoes off and climbed on my bed. something hard hit the side of my left hand. It was the silver box.

I cautiously opened it and found that there was a black book inside. I opened it.

It was filled with pictures of me.

I was stunned to silence. They weren't just any pictures; they were a record of every Bey battle I had won in my life. There were rare pics of losses too. As I flipped through the newspaper clippings, my heart began to melt. Throughout my life, I had never been appreciated properly. Everytime I won a championship, Every time I topped in class or did anything noteworthy, my grandfather would just keep repeating. More, more, more…

Now seeing these little joys collected and arranged with so much care moved me. It even made my losses look glorious. I held the book close to my chest and shut my eyes. This was the best gift I had received.

but who was this secret admirer?
