Setting Prompt: Future AU/Post Canon
The news reports all stated that Kudo Shinichi was only an echo of what he was before. Yes, he was still great at solving cases, maybe even better, but he was more distant. Heiji knew he learned how to be humble during his time as Edogawa Conan, but seeing those news reports always made him mad.
After returning to Shinichi, the detective had asked Heiji out, which he said yes to, of course, though flustered. And now, Heiji was very annoyed on his boyfriend's behalf.
"It's okay," Shinichi said one day as they sat together on the couch and idly watched a game of soccer. "I don't mind it."
"Are ya sure?" Heiji grumbled. "It's infuriating, them talking 'bout ya. They have no right ta insult ya, Shinichi!"
"It's not exactly an insult," Shinichi pointed out. "It's a fact. I am more distant from the news these days."
"Whatever," Heiji grumbled.
Sighing, Shinichi allowed himself to lean into Heiji a bit, something he basically never did. "Oh well. I'm glad you're angry on my behalf, though." He rolled his eyes at this, sarcasm clearly laced into his words, but Heiji blushed nonetheless.
"Shut up," he muttered, looking away. "I ain't angry."
"That's right, you're infuriated," Shinichi recalled.
Heiji glared at him, and Shinichi gave his annoying yet also lovable smile. Heiji just had to forgive him.
…the news would get what they deserved, though.
