"Mister! Mister! Please wake up!"
The voice was cloudy. Clover could hardly make it out.
"Mister! Please wake up!"
Clover blinked his tired eyes open, and a blurry yellow figure was above him. When his eyes focused, the shape of a Twi'lek girl came to his view. She was young, with a splash of orange freckles on her face, and a pair of brown overalls, and leather around her head tails.
Clover looked at her for a moment. "Who…who are-"
The girl pressed a canteen to his lips. "Don't talk. Drink."
A cold rush of water flowed down his scratchy throat, soothing it immediately. He took the canteen in his hands, and downed the whole thing in a few seconds. It was gone before he realized what he did.
"Oh, blast! I'm sorry, kid!" He handed the empty canteen back to her. "I didn't mean-"
"Don't sweat it. That was all for you anyways!" The girl smiled and slung the strap of the canteen over her shoulder.
"Where did you come from, kid? What are you doing out in a place like this?" Clover sat up slowly, being careful not to let the blood rush to his head too quickly.
"First off, my name is not Kid. It's Bugsi," She said. "Second of all, We can't talk out here." She looked around and lowered her voice to a whisper. "Someone might hear us,"
Clover looked around. Nothing but sand, and jagged rocks for miles. "But who-"
"No more talking," Bugsi put her finger to his lips. She put her fingers in her mouth and whistled. "Ponzo! C'mere!"
A loud gurgly growl erupted behind Clover. He gasped and spun around. His eyes went wide.
There was a seven foot tall Wookie behind him.
"WOAH!" Clover scrambled for his blaster, and pointed it at it.
"Wait! Wait! Don't shoot him!" Bugsi ran up to the Wookie and stood next to him. "He's with me!"
Clover froze, and dropped his blaster. "W-what?!"
Bugsi hugged Ponzo's leg. "Please don't hurt him!"
Clover put his hands up. "I won't! I won't! He just…" He looked up at Ponzo and gulped. "Caught me by surprise."
Ponzo growled happily.
"He's nice! Don't worry!" Bugsi looked up at Ponzo. "Help him up, old pal! We have some explaining to do!"
Ponzo reached down and picked Clover up from the sand
"Hey! Put me down! I can walk!" Clover said, wriggling in the strong grip.
"Nope, not now! You're exhausted!" Bugsi said. "Think of it as a break from your labors!"
Clover stopped struggling and hung there over the Wookie's shoulder. "Great…I'm so grateful to be carried by an oversized carpet…"
Ponzo growled angrily and held him in front of his face.
"A very nice carpet!" Clover said, smiling nervously. "The nicest carpet in the galaxy!"
Ponzo rolled his eyes and slung Clover back over his shoulder.
A few minutes later, the three stragglers came up to a large rock. There was a small stick ladder leading up to the top.
"Ponzo, you go first," Bugsi stepped aside.
Ponzo nodded and started climbing up the ladder. Clover watched the sand below him get further and further away, the higher he went.
"Take him inside! I'll be up in a second!" Bugsi said from below.
Ponzo walked across the ledge, and came up to a big wall.
"What? You live up here?" Clover said.
Ponzo gurgled happily and grabbed part of the wall. That wall was actually a blanket, disguised to blend in with the rock.
"Woah! What?!" Clover said.
Ponzo laughed a gurgly laugh, and stepped behind the blanket, letting it fall back behind him. He was very tall, so Clovers head smacked right into the top of the entrance.
"Ow! Watch my head!" Clover spat, rubbing the back of his head. He felt a lump starting to form.
Ponzo gurgled apologetically, and patted Clovers head with his big furry hand. He then set him down on the ground.
Inside the little hideout were three makeshift beds, a few homemade dishes, and a big barrel in the corner. Many colored beads and accessories were strung across the ceiling, and multiple chests were stacked across the walls.
"You like it?" Bugsi walked in. "It's not much, but it's home!"
"Kid, how-" Clover started.
"Bugsi," She said, crossing her arms.
"Bugsi, how long have you been living out here?!" Clover said, looking around.
"Ever since my master found me. This is her home, y'know," She sat on one of the beds. "Or…was…"
"Wait wait wait," Clover waved his hands. "You're a Jedi?!"
"A Jedi to be!" Bugsi said.
"And you're not afraid of me?!" Clover said.
"No," Bugsi said. "You're not like the rest of them. I know you're not! I sense the good in you!" Her orange eyes peered into his.
"How did you survive? All the younglings and Jedi were killed!" Clover said.
Bugsi sat next to Ponzo and hugged his arm. "Ponzo saved me. My master told him to take me and run," She sniffled. That was the last I saw of her before you…" She gulped. "I mean…they, killed her,"
Clover wrinkled his forehead. "I'm sorry, Bugsi," He said, as gently as he could.
Bugsi's lip quivered. "Why did they do that? I thought they were the good guys!"
Clover put his hand on her shoulder. "They're good! I promise!" He said. "It's not their fault,"
"What do you mean?" Bugsi sniffled, wiping her face on Ponzo's arm.
Clover scratched his chin with his fingers. "How do I explain this to a child…" He muttered. "Um, you know that we're clones, right? Like all created from the same person?"
"Uh huh," Bugsi said.
"Alright, so basically, the bad guys-"
"I'm not four. You can call them the Separatists," She sniffled.
"OKay, sorry," Clover said. "Anyway, the Separatists took a chip, and put them into our brains when we were just babies," He pointed to his head. "And when we got older, they used that chip to make all the clones think we were working for them,"
"Then why don't you want to kill me?" Bugsi said.
"I got mine removed," Clover said. "And the rest of my squad," He stood up. "Speaking of them, I need to get back to them. They're waiting for me, and one of them is hurt,"
Bugsi stood up. "Let us come with you! We can help!"
"It's dangerous out there for you, kid. Your kind is being hunted. If the Separatists…or now, the Empire, know we're helping you, we're all gonna die,"
Bugsi clasped her fingers together. "Please let me come! I can help!" She went to one of the chests and opened it. She took out a large first aid kit. "See! I have a first aid kit! I even have water for you and all the rest of your men!" She pointed to another large crate. "Ponzo! Get lots of water and put it in a jug! All of his friends need it!"
Ponzo gurgled and nodded and started to fill up a water jug with water.
All Clover could do was stare. "Bugsi, I-"
"Don't try and push away this offer, because I'm not declining!" Bugsi said, crossing her arms. "You guys need this water! And this help! Master Hishla taught me first aid!"
"Do you know how to treat a compound fracture?" Clover said, crossing his arms.
Bugsi's mouth dropped. "I get to see a compound fracture?! Cool!"
Clover pinched the bridge of his nose. "You're a riot, kiddo,"
"I'm not the little girl you think I am!" Bugsi slid a robe around her arms, and clipped a lightsaber to her belt. "I'm better than them! I'm not afraid of anything!"
"Good. I thought I was gonna be dealing with a little brat…" Clover said.
Ponzo growled angrily at him.
"But I'm not! She's the furthest thing from a brat! I promise!" Clover put his hands up.
"I thought I was gonna be dealing with a weird grumpy old troll too…" Bugsi said. "But I'm not! You're really nice!"
Clover smiled. "Thanks, kiddo,"
Ponzo lifted her onto his shoulder. "Are you okay to walk? Does Ponzo need to carry you again?"
Clover waved his hands in front of him. "My legs work fine, thank you very much," He said. He put his helmet back on, and climbed down the ladder. "Let me track my friends real quick. Pick up their signals,"
Bugsi raised an eyebrow. "You can do that?"
Clover chuckled. "There's a lot you don't know about clones," He said.
"Well, I guess I'm going to," Bugsi said. "I'm gonna be with a bunch of them!"
Clover looked down at the device in his hands, where four blinking red dots were. "It is a bit of a walk, if that's okay with your Wookie friend, here,"
"It's fine. You'll be surprised at how much Ponzo can handle! He's been with Master Hishla through everything!" Bugsi said, hugging Ponzo from above. "I'm excited to meet all your friends!"
"I hope they're excited to meet you too," Clover said. "They can be a little intimidating sometimes, just a heads up,"
Bugsi scoffed. "Intimidating! Hah! That's my middle name!"
"You're some kid, Bugsi," Cover said.
Bugsi smiled. "And you're some guy, too, uh…" She paused.
"CT-7777," Clover said. "But call me Clover, please,
