Sakura
Naruto and Sasuke were out buying groceries so I stayed home and stretched in our gym room. They had given each other the silent treatment all morning, making me extremely uncomfortable but once I said something about it they grumbled and decided to treat their dispute by going to the store.
I heard my phone buzz and picked it up. There was a text from Sasuke.
Sasuke: Is there any food you want?
Me: if there's fruit that'd be nice
Sasuke: K, what else?
Me: Nothing. Tell Naruto I say not to buy too much food. He eats more than he needs to and it's not cheap, especially since you're usually the one left paying for it.
Sasuke: I made enough at the police station. It's fine. I will tell Naruto though.
Sasuke: he said we're watching a movie tonight. Snacks
Me: if you bring me the receipt: the items from earlier so that I can make fruit salad. I'll make enough for us all.
Sasuke: I'll pay. I'm forcing Naruto to pay for his junk. 20 min
Me: Let me cover my stuff.
Me: Sasuke?
Read: 1:54 pm
Me: ok.
Naruto and Sasuke joined me in the gym about 30 minutes later.
Sasuke helped me with one or two of my workouts and I noticed out of the corner of my eye a distorted Naruto.
He frowned when he caught me looking back at him and went back to running, glancing back now and then.
When we all finished working in the gym we went on a run. I let Sasuke get even farther in front of Naruto and I sped up so I matched Naruto's pace.
"Is something up?" I asked between breaths.
"Why do you ask?"
"Well you and Sasuke seem to be in some void and you looked kinda upset in the gym room earlier," I said.
"Yeah, he's just being kinda annoying about the whole race thing. He's mad you're going. According to him, I'm being forceful and I'm irresponsible and all this shit. I don't get why Sasuke feels that he's so above me."
"Well, I'm sure he'll come to. He's just concerned for you." I assured him.
"No. He's worried about you. I don't get why. I've never left you high and dry. Right?"
He has. I love Naruto and he's very caring towards me but he does get very irresponsible. He's left me at multiple parties and I always have to be saved by Sasuke. Though in the morning, when he doesn't remember anything, I always tell him he fell asleep and we brought him home together so that he doesn't feel bad. I never want to go to all these events but he insists that I do. That's Naruto. "I- yes, right."
"See he's just being a wise-ass." Naruto then said and ran even faster, trying to pass Sasuke.
Naruto wanted to watch a horror movie. Like, really wanted to watch a horror movie. So I took my sweet time making the fruit salad, trying to extend how long it was before I had to watch that exact movie.
I had finished and I was going to scroll through my phone for a while so that I didn't have to go into the living room but Naruto walked in.
"Nice! It's done. Thanks," He grabbed the bowl and walked out of the kitchen meaning I now had to as well. I frowned and followed.
The first thirty minutes were alright. Then it started getting worse. It was a 2-hour and 30-minute long movie and we were barely approaching the first hour. We didn't check what it was about, or Naruto didn't. He only picked it because of the bloody cover. Suddenly the characters got onto a plane.
Shit.
I know exactly where this was going; a plane crash. I tried to keep a straight face because I don't think Naruto noticed what was happening and didn't remember at the moment how I related to this topic and I didn't want to annoy him. Sasuke was in the restroom so I had no choice but to shut up. I noticed that the Pilot in the movie started to talk about some kind of air problem. Oh gosh...
The plane started to turn but not the way the Pilot wanted. That meant it was about to crash. Sasuke walked into the room. He noticed my face and grew confused when he saw what was happening in the movie. I was curled up into a ball with my knees to my chest, sitting, staring wide-eyed at the TV. Sasuke started to say something to Naruto in a rushed voice but it all blurred into laser noise in my ears. My vision fogged up and memories flooded back from that unforgettable day when I was 13-
About 3 years ago. Still Sakura's POV.
Naruto and Sasuke were arguing: Naruto was trying to cheat off Sasuke. I put my hands up and tried to calm them. "Guys it's not that big of a deal. Naruto, if you're having trouble, use my work." I said hopefully.
"Thanks!" Naruto chirped.
"Oh my gosh, Sakura you're not letting Naruto copy shit off you!" Sasuke said and smacked him across the head. I rolled my eyes at Naruto who was trying to hit him back. The principal suddenly came into the classroom.
She had a frown on her face as she met eyes with me. Her scowl deepened. "Sakura? Dear, can you come with me please." Tsunade said while forcing a small smile.
Was I in trouble? Did my teacher hear me offering to give Naruto answers? I don't usually do anything to get in trouble. Naruto and Sasuke both looked at me. Naruto widened his eyes in a questioning manner and Sasuke raised an eyebrow.
I shrugged with an "I don't know!" look on my face and followed Tsunade to the door. She wrapped an arm around me and we walked into the counselor's office.
She pointed an arm at the chair in front of Shizune's desk and I sat with a frown but my eyes held no expression. Maybe I violated the dress code. I've washed my skirt with high heat before and it's shrunk but as far as I'm concerned, it's long enough today. At least I thought that might be it until I noticed a police officer in the corner frowning. Oh no, am I going to jail or something?!
The policeman walked forward and held his hand for me to shake. "Sakura, how are you? I'm officer Jiryah." He said and I took his hand.
"Am I in trouble?!" I asked, worried.
"No! Of course not. We do have some troubling news for you though." I frowned.
"Wait! Are my friends in trouble?"
Shizune frowned and looked down at her feet. She then pushed her chair back and walked over to my seat. She placed her hands around mine and kneeled, then looked up to the police officer for him to continue.
"I'm going to get straight to it. If you have any questions you can ask them." He placed a hand on my shoulder and kneeled with Shizune.
Just tell me!
"Sakura, honey,
your parents were killed."
Wait what?
My face fell. My vision blurred. My head started pounding and all the sound in the room blended into a deafening line. I looked at the air and didn't listen to anything else anyone said and interrupted whatever Tsunade was saying. "Is this a prank? Some sick prank?" I managed to croak. My throat was dry. I need water. Where's the water?!
"No. Oh, I'm so sorry Sakura-dear. Their plane crashed on their way to Konohagakure." She said calmly.
I felt warm tears fall down my cheek as I hesitantly asked between breaths, "Was it— was it fast? Did they suffer? Do you know?"
"Fortunately it was." Someone said but I'm not sure who. I didn't know anything. I started to bawl as I shoved everyone's hands from me and curled into a ball. I cried and choked on tears as I couldn't feel my lungs working.
Oh my gosh, I can't feel my lungs working! I can't breathe. "I can't breathe!" I started screaming. It felt as if I was in a dark knot and no one could help.
I started yelling hopefully. I wasn't okay. Oh my gosh. I imagined the crushing pain my parents felt. The blood. All their oxygen was stolen. They couldn't breathe.
I can't breathe.
I can't breathe!
I remembered falling and everything going black while I held my hands to my throat.
Present
I was crying now. Bawling. I couldn't hear the voices around me. I started to feel like I was suffocating and released my head from my knees and started to claw at my neck again.
"I can't breathe!" I started to scream. I needed oxygen.
I stood up and frantically looked around for a door. Like I couldn't remember where anything was. I felt someone grab my shoulders, shake me and speak.
"Sakura! Breathe! Remember how to breathe!" My vision started to line up as my body welcomed the familiar touch.
Sasuke's here. He can help. "Sasuke.." I croaked. "I can't," I held my neck and squeezed my face as I tried to let air into my lungs. "I can't breathe!" I then screamed and started to tumble. He wrapped his hands around my waist and pulled me outside as soon as he realized I truly couldn't.
Finally,
My lungs got air. The wind slammed into my face and the oxygen slid down my nostrils and mouth into my body. Making me gasp in relief as I desperately wrapped my arms around Sasuke's arm who supported my back. "It's okay, you're okay,
I'm here, Sakura."
I had another panic attack.
