Sasuke
It was 8:30. Half an hour till we left for that race. After I had gone to my room I didn't leave so I'm not exactly sure what Naruto and Sakura have been doing. Though the thought was not appealing.
I groaned and made my way to the bathroom across the hall. I washed some distraught off me and changed.
I didn't hear any voices downstairs so I knocked on Sakura's door. A few seconds later it opened and Sakura was standing in an obnoxiously long crewneck and worn-out shorts. Her neck-length hair was down and dripping from what I assumed was a shower.
"You're going to be cold." I finally said and walked past Sakura to her bed. I laid down on my back and closed my eyes.
"My legs? They'll be fine. It's only the second month of winter." She said and sat down by my feet.
"Don't you have sweats or something? I'm telling you you're gonna get a cold." I repeated and looked up at her.
"I'll be okay." She said and looked away.
"Sakura, why are you going to this race?" I then asked, somewhat annoyed.
"Because, when I walked into Naruto's room today he was devastated. I never want to see Naruto like that. It was so sad. So if me going to some amateur race in the back of our High-School's-parking lot will lift his mood even a little I'm willing to do so." She explained while playing with a strand of her hair.
"Little prick.." I muttered under my breath right before I heard a knock on Sakura's door.
"Come in!"
Naruto opened the door and looked at us with a distorted expression. He didn't even try to meet my eyes. I can't stand him right now but at the same time, it sucks to have your best friend not even look at you. I'm not even remotely sure why Sakura's recent event has triggered me so much to the point of this.
"You guys ready?" He said turning to Sakura specifically.
"Yeah," I said and hurried past him.
The ride to the school was awkward. I let Sakura drive and Naruto have the passenger seat. They talked a little bit. Though, our dispute was plastered to the mood.
When we got to the parking lot there were about 7 other cars unevenly situated around the area. Three speakers; all blasting obnoxious music. Someone had brought a few coolers packed with alcohol and Itachi and his group along with their friends were scattered and shouting.
Tonight was going to be long.
Naruto hopped out of the car and ran over to Itachi. They slammed their hands together in a high-five and made a beeline to the drinks. Sakura had a disappointing look on her face but sighed and followed suit, shutting the car door.
I met with her a few feet ahead. "Are you sure you want this? It's not too late to drive home." I said and inched a little closer.
She looked up at me with an indecent expression and pursed her lips. "I have to for Naruto. If it gets even too overwhelming I'll let you know." She finished her sentence with a shrug and poke on my arm, then drifted in Naruto's direction.
I rolled my eyes and followed. Naruto had met us with three beers in his hands. "Got some! Want any Sakura? Sasuke? It might lighten your mood." He grinned.
"Not drinking." We both said at the same time.
Naruto shrugged. "Guess they're mine. Hey, Sakura get your phone out! I bet I can chug all three in 2 minutes!" He said and began to pop off the metal lids.
Sakura looked as if she wanted to argue but her state of mind was too distracted to do so. Instead, she submissively pulled out her phone and set a clock. Naruto got them all down in 1:45 seconds.
"Whew!" Naruto shouted and ran over to some of Itachi's friends to grab more liquor.
I noticed that Itachi himself seemed a little out of it so I walked over to make sure he wasn't having some episode after consoling Sakura. "Stay here I'm checking someone real quick."
Itachi was sitting on a folded chair. When he saw me he gave me an influenced grin. I frowned, he was on some drug. "Heya' duck ass. How's it going?" He hazily cooed.
"You're high," I stated. He laughed and pulled out a cigarette. He lit it and handed it in my direction. I shoved my hand in my pockets as a signal for 'no'.
"I'm not high. Swear. A bit tipsy from the drinks but I've only smoked these." He then said, bringing the cigarette to his lips.
"I hope you're not the one driving that car," I said, taking a seat next to him on the ground.
"Nah. Deidara wanted to do it this time. Is Naruto doing so?" He asked me, blowing out smoke.
I flicked the cigarette from his fingers. He gave me a pathetic glare and threw his head back, letting out a long sigh. "You're done with that for tonight." I continued, "The idiot's driving, yes. He better stop drinking now though or I won't let him." I said with a huff, glaring in Naruto's direction.
"What's going on? You seem particularly upset with Naruto today." Itachi said and leaned down to pat the ground around him.
I flicked the cigarette farther and sat back up. "I don't know. He's just been kind of inconsiderate lately. Like with her." I nodded my head towards Sakura who was staring purposefully at the ground and away from the others. "Careless as usual. And I'm not exactly sure why but it's pissing me off more often as time goes by." I said.
Itachi sighed at the sight of the cigarette and leaned back into his chair. "I think I know why. But anyways, just try to remember how much you've been through with Naruto and cut him some slack. Don't let your silly feelings get in the way of a strong friendship." He said.
"What do you mean by my own feelings?" I asked him and raised an eyebrow.
"With Sakura."
My eyes grew big. "Come again-,"
I was interrupted by a familiar voice. "Sasuke! Come on! The race is about to start!"
I rolled my eyes and pushed myself to my feet. I patted Itachi on the shoulder and met up with Naruto. He reeked of alcohol.
"Geez Naruto! What'd you drink?" I asked.
"Don't worry I drank light but a lot. I can still drive fine!" He said. I grunted but stayed silent. Itachi's right, there's no reason to make Naruto and I's relationship more unbearable.
Sakura came over and sniffed Naruto. "Yeah uh... Naruto... You're not drunk right?" She asked and bit her lip.
"I'm fine! Just spilled a little!" He said and pulled her to our car. My face fell. He's not driving with someone else in the car.
I ran over and pulled her arm out of his grip.
"Are you slow? She's not driving with you." I hissed to a distorted Naruto.
"She offered to take the wheel in case I got dizzy! It'll be fine! I won't let her get hurt." He pleaded, pulling her shoulder.
Oh, I so badly wanted to chew him out, but Sakura wouldn't like that and the last thing she needs tonight is more stress. Instead, I glared at him and stayed still.
"Sasuke." Sakura looked up at me. "Just get in the back seat." She said turning around.
I frowned but let it go. "Oh, my word," I said and we all made our way into the convertible.
Deidara pulled up next to us. Ahead of us was about a mile from the clear parking lot. By clear I mean no people. There were still plenty of signs and concrete walls for the separation of the school. I placed my hand on Sakura's headrest. She began to lecture Naruto on how not to get us killed in the nicest way possible but I blurred it out with my own concerns.
"I swear to fuck Naruto-" I started.
"Sasuke! I can drive!" He argued. I bit my tongue and noticed Sakura doing the same. The tension was awful.
Finally, Hidan walked out in the front between our cars. He pulled out a napkin and raised his hand in the air. Naruto and Deidara pulled down their windows and Sakura sucked in a breath.
"On your Mark...
get set...
GO!"
Our car was immediately sent flying.
Naruto swerved to the right to dodge a sign and it jolted Sakura's head to the window resulting in a loud 'BANG.' I tried to steady her neck but heard the tires screech as Naruto pressed on the gas and was silenced by the roaring wind through our window. She held onto the door handle; turning her knuckles white and I finally was able to throw my arms through her seatbelt and yank her against her seat. I pressed my head into my head and began to beg God for us to make it out alive.
I opened one eye and saw that Deidara was still a little ahead of us. "Fuck!" Naruto yelled and he jerked the steering wheel to the left, banging against Deidara's car slightly and swerving back forward. Sakura and I's bodies managed to be okay because of our tight hold on the car. She had moved her hand's grip to the handle on the ceiling and we were both bracing for our fate.
"Hold on guys! I have an idea!" Naruto screamed over the wind shooting through his window. I was unsure of what he meant until I saw a ramp about 60 meters away. It was more like a mound for disabled kids and now Naruto was going to try to use it to win.
Naruto is literally going to murder us.
"Don't you fucking dare—!" I tried to warn him but he leaned forward and we were already 10 meters away. Sakura was screaming for Naruto to stop the car but he couldn't hear the wind. I held onto her seatbelt from behind so hard so as for her not to be jerked and prepared for the worst. It sucked.
Suddenly our bodies were greeted with an unfamiliar feeling of elevation as the tires were no longer touching gravel. I opened my eyes and saw that we were at least 15 feet above the ground. I mentally had to prepare to fall to the ground again.
My body was welcomed with a giant jolt as our convertible was slammed back down and banged to the side. Sakura let out a piercing scream and her head was slammed into the ceiling of the car. But despite the chaos, the car kept moving forward at an uncontrollable speed.
Well, we didn't die.
"Fuck Yeah!" Naruto howled as we were thrown past the finish line. He slammed his foot on the break. The car jerked up then down and stopped.
All I could hear was a ringing noise. Naruto started to yell happily as he hopped out of the car shouting. I let go of the car seats and she let out a shaky breath of relief.
She brought her hands to her temple and began to massage it. My eyes grew big as I remembered. I hopped out of the back seat and threw the passenger car door open. I practically threw her out of the hellish car. "Did you hurt your head?" I asked.
"I don't even care about my head. Damn that idiot I thought we were going to die." She said as she tightened her grip on the car's door handle. I was still in shock and could only simply nod my head in relief and agreement.
