Into The Sunset
Chapter 4
What's more important? What we become or how we become it?"
Peyton felt herself relax. As she laid beside Brooke on a large blanket. With the warm sun and waves as her scenery.
"A day at the beach is all you want.?" Brooke questioned.
"Yeah. To just linger in the quiet. Once the baby gets here."
"Jake and I won't have quiet or privacy again." Peyton replied.
"Enjoy it P Sawyer. I always thought we'd be pregnant together or around the same time." Brooke stated matter of fact.
"I'm surprised you and Lucas don't have a kid or two by now."
"I thought the two of you would of had children already. Did what the two of you wanted change.?" Peyton asked.
Brooke took a long sip of her iced tea.
It was August. During another heat wave.
"No we want to have a family. More then anything."
"We just expected it to happen and this journey hasn't been the easiest. I was pregnant. But i'm not anymore." Brooke admitted.
Peyton gazed over at her best friend. Her eyes wide.
"Shit. I'm so sorry. If i knew i wouldn't of brought up kids or pregnancy." Peyton replied.
"It's okay Lucas and I are figuring out our next steps."
"Trying to heal and work up to reconnecting."
"I just wanted it so bad. It's so silly. I was thinking about baby names and sketching nursery ideas."
"We're in our 30's now. It isn't going to happen over night. I got my hopes up. I should know better." Brooke confessed. The emotion in her voice raw.
Peyton pulled her into a light hug.
Brooke hugged her back. Quickly wiping away falling tears.
"You were excited and looking forward to having a baby with you're husband. There is nothing wrong with that." Peyton replied.
...
Sometime Later
Brooke got back home replied to a text from Haley about having a day of pampering.
It was 6 or 7pm by the time her and Peyton ended their time together.
Brooke entered the house and smiled as she smelled the aroma of one of her favorite dishes. Chicken Parm.
Once she got into the kitchen.
Lucas's smile beamed up at her.
"I thought we could have a date night in. Candle light dinner."
"Dessert in front of the fireplace." Lucas proclaimed.
Brooke walked over kissing him hard.
"Maybe some alone time in our bedroom. Without our clothes." Brooke suggested.
