Into The Sunset

Chapter 8

"We should head out the party is going to start soon." Brooke announced. As she walked over to where Lucas was in their bedroom.

Wearing a green dress that cut off right above the knees. Paired with black sandals and pink lipstick.

"I think we should hang out here. Discuss the appointment. Really how we feel about everything the doctor said.

'Honestly i'm concerned. It's too soon for you to be around kids."

"I'm dealing with it. I've accepted that this is our life."

"I have faith and full belief that we are going to have a family someday. Whether those children are ours or not."

"Al i care about is getting you through this."

"I know you better then anyone else in the world."

"You're hurting. You feel as if you failed in some way."

"But none of this is you're fault." Lucas said.

Brooke sighed deeply. Running her hands through her hair.

"You don't understand before you i never wanted to be a mother."

"I've watched my closest friends become mothers. Seeing them experience a joy and happiness. That now feels out of reach to me."

"I don't want to dwell and be consumed with heartbreak i feel."

"I just want to be happy. For Peyton and Jake." Brooke proclaimed.

"Okay. We'll go. And leave once it's over." Lucas replied.

...

Hours Later

The Scotts arrived back home. In a better emotional place then when they left

"I'm glad we went. It was fun. And having our friends there. Made it alot more bareable then i expected." Lucas admitted.

"I knew it was what we needed. Some time and space to clear our minds." Brooke replied.

"I'll make dinner. You relax." Lucas insisted.

Brooke kissed him gently and left the entryway.

As they ate dinner. The pair decided they would adopt. A baby. An older child. They were open to it all.

While day transformed to night. And the sun began to set over the small town.

They were enjoying dessert in the living room. Just enjoying the warmth and comfort of being in each other's arms.

That was the plan at least.

Until a three knocks at the front door. Brought the couple to the entryway.

Lucas unlocked and opened the front door.

Brooke and Lucas looked down that back up at each other.

In a carseat. Wrapped in a blanket was a baby.

Brooke went straight for the child. Looking for some kind of identification.

And soon enough found it.

A note written out at least.

Lucas looked all around and saw no one.

He carried the carseat inside. Placed it down in the living room.

Brooke opened the folded sheet of paper and started to read it out loud.

I've tried for a year to raise him. I didn't want to leave him at a hospital or anywhere else like that. He would just get thrown into the system.

My only request is to give him what i can't. And please don't try to track me down.

Brooke swallowed hard.

Looking over at the baby. Who had dark brown hair and brown eyes.

"We need to call this in. Someone abandoned this baby and left it on our doorstep."

"This could be a trap. Who knows what ties lead back to this child.?" Lucas asked.

Brooke smiled warmly. Scooping up the child from the carseat.

He clung to her. Resting his head on her chest.
