Living Again

Chapter 2

Molly Johnson didn't even have a car so when Mike knocked on the door, she knew she was leaving the apartment for the last time. That didn't worry her. She didn't even have a bed or crib for the kids, but Mike said not to worry about any of that. She suspected he was buying everything she needed. Their few belongings were packed up and Mike only made one trip back and forth. He took Ella in her car seat and Tucker's hand, and headed downstairs while Molly cleaned a bit and handed her keys over.

Mike had a large, comfortable truck and Tucker was watching some video on Mike's phone. Ella was already sound asleep and Mike opened the truck door for Molly and gave her a hand up. Fifteen minutes later; he pulled up in front of a large house. It was nicer than anything she had ever been in before and far enough away that Trevor would never find her. She hoped. Mike grabbed the heavy car seat and led her and Tucker into the house. It was fairly bland and needed several pieces of furniture but it was warm and clean.

"I intend on making this much homier; once you and the kids are settled. I went and got a crib and bassinet for Ella, so she can sleep down here when you and Tucker are down here. I also got some kid-friendly things for Tucker." Mike said. He had sat the car seat on the kitchen counter and she was looking around at her surroundings and starting to fuss.

"I'd better nurse. She's probably hungry. Is there somewhere I can go?" Molly asked, feeling embarrassed.

"Upstairs. I'll show you the room I intended for you. I put a rocking chair in there and her crib. Didn't figure you wanted away from her just yet. Tucker is across from you." Mike explained as he led her upstairs.

"Thank you for all this. Its really so much." Molly said. Mike turned the light on in a bedroom, and gestured for her to go in. It was a fairly plain room, but had everything she needed. A queen-sized bed, nightstands, a rocking chair, dresser, and crib.

"Here you go. As I said; we'll make it homier soon. Tucker; would you like to see your room? I got you a few things." Mike asked. Tucker nodded but looked at Molly for permission.

"Go ahead. I'll be fine." Molly said.

"He will be too." Mike said. He led Tucker away, and gently shut the bedroom door so Molly had privacy. She laid Ella down for a second while she adjusted her clothing. Once in the rocker, Ella latched on and cuddled close.

"Maybe here, I'll have some better food and you'll feel better. I know it seems crazy and all but this is better than anything else I can come up with. Maybe he'll give me a few weeks before I have to sleep with him too. I hope so. He seems like a better man than your daddy." Molly said, talking to Ella who just blinked in response. All Ella cared about was the milk that Molly was providing her. Just then, Tucker came in without shutting the door. Molly hadn't bothered covering up since she thought she'd have privacy so she was almost frantic.

"Mama, there's so many toys and fun stuff. Mister Mike went downstairs to get Chinese food ordered too. He asked me what I wanted and everything." Tucker said.

"Can you shut the door, honey?" Molly asked. Tucker immediately complied and sat down on Molly's bed.

"Does Sissy feel better?" Tucker asked. At almost four; he was advanced for his age; mostly because Molly refused for him to be uneducated like she was.

"Its going to take a bit of time. A few good meals. Lots of milk. Just be careful, sweetie. I know Mister Mike seems nice, but people always expect things. Even nice people." Molly said.

"He could just be a nice person, Mama. And I think he misses people of his own." Tucker answered. Molly wished she could have Tucker's faith in people, but life hadn't been fair to her. Maybe it would be better for Tucker. She could only hope so.
