Into The Sunset

Chapter 19

Author's Note : Emotional chapter ahead.

Funny how a baby can start things up. How a baby can give direction to a life that turned meaningless...

Lucas busted through the hospital doors after getting a frantic phone call from Brooke.

His mind was racing. His heart practically coming out of his chest. When she told him. What symptoms she was experiencing.

Lucas raced over to the reception desk.

"Mrs. Brooke Davis Scott. My wife was admitted to the hospital."

"She's pregnant. Had pain. I need to know what room she's in right now." Lucas proclaimed.

Lucas eventually made it to Brooke's hospital room.

She was visibly upset. Her make up cleaned off her face.

She was wearing a hospital gown. White with black polka dots.

"Something's wrong! i don't know what's happening!"

"She's going to be okay. She has to be!" Brooke exclaimed. Before breaking down in her husband's arms.

The doctor and the team soon entered the hospital room.

They looked to Brooke then Lucas.

"You made the right decision to come in."

"We have to take you to labor and delivery right now." The doctor explained.

Lucas felt his heart sink.

"No! It's too for that! I'm 20 weeks along. She can't be born now!" Brooke insisted.

"Mrs. Scott. Even if we gave you medication to slow things down. It wouldn't change the fact that the baby is on the way."

"We want to make this situation as bareable as possible."

"Give you drugs for labor pain. We have a team on stand by to take the baby once she's born and use all the resources we have." The doctor explained.

"We have to go. We'll get through this." Lucas proclaimed.

Brooke was unraveling in front of his eyes.

He hated this. He would anything possible to go through this for her.

But he couldn't. Instead he stayed by her side as she was wheeled into labor and delivery.

It smelled like cleaning products. The lights were bright.

Lucas caught a glimpse of the cot where their daughter would be placed into once she was born.

"Ahhhhhhh!" Brooke yelled. Bearing down with each contraction.

She breathed and tried to control her emotions.

She didn't want pain relief. She just wanted her baby. Her Sage.

"Keep pushing Brooke. She's almost here." The doctor advised.

"It hurts so much Luke!" Brooke confessed.

Lucas grabbed her hand. "Keep you're eyes on me."

"We're do it together." Lucas replied.

Brooke nodded her head agreement. Taking a final big breath as she pushed with all the energy she had left.

She lifted her head and reopened her eyes. Tears falling from her face.

Lucas felt the tears falling from his eyes and he couldn't stop them.

"She's here." Lucas said. The emotion in his voice thick.

Lucas watched as they began to work on their daughter. Cleaning and clearing her passage ways.

"Go to her! Luke please!" Brooke pleaded.

Lucas swallowed hard. And stayed close by.

Watching as the doctors worked on a baby who hadn't cried or moved.

She just laid there. Eyes closed.

Small amounts of blond hair on her head.

...

Brooke was soon taken to recovery. Lucas by her side.

Sage was born at 5 months into the pregnancy.

When a doctor finally appeared. She locked to the couple.

The hospital door room closed.

"We did all we could. She's tough. Strong. She's hanging on."

"But it doesn't look good. If she does make it."

"She will have serious problems with movement vision. learning."

"We have her on a breathing machine. That can last for months if the two of you want it." The doctors explained.

"She's staying on any and all machines."

"She's fighting. And i won't give up on her." Brooke proclaimed.

Brooke was grasping at straws of hope. And Lucas wanted to do the same but he couldn't.

"We can take you to see her anytime." The doctor informed them before leaving the room.

"Brooke we need to think about this. What life on machines would do to her. Would that help.? And lets say it does. And she survives."

"The road forward is long and uncertain full of problems with development and how she sees and hears."

"I love her too. We need to do what's right." Lucas stated matter of fact.

"I don't care about the risks.! She's staying on the breathing machine!" Brooke exclaimed.

...

Sage remained on the breathing machines for 6 months.

She managed to survive. But with that would be problems.
